Decided to give this place a shot today out of all the other great restaurants in Charleston we researched online.. we were disappointed to say the least. Service was average. Hushpuppies were tough to bite through (we were confused because waitress said they were always like that), ordered the big crab steampot for $50 and still went home hungry. The mussels were undercooked. Wife got the captians fried seafood platter- oysters, shrimp, & flounder. It was eatable but definitely not something we will talk about or come back for. Soggy 'crispy' battered fish and I tried a fried oyster only to bite down on a chunk of shell and almost felt like I chipped my tooth..just now feeling better 3hrs later. Wife said the fish at captian Ds was better. Our total was $95 + tip = $120. We we're hoping to end our vacation on a good note and this was definitely not it. Hopefully we can redeem our love for Charleston food with breakfast on the way out tomorrow. This place is OVERRATED & we took some go pro footage we will be posting soon of our review & experience at Charleston Crab house. Take your money and try something else. (Had to edit and update from 2 stars to 1 star. Im about 90% certain i paid $100 for food poisoning, should be a fun drive tomorrow..smh)We are eating a frozen Viola meal at the rental house as I type this. (Pictured) We are frustrated and let down. Some of these reviews misguided us so we wanted to leave an honest review about our first experience here. We've eaten here several times and the food is always on point. There is usually a wait, but the wait time is not that bad and they have both inside and outside seating. Due to the location being right in the middle of the touristy city area, it's super easy to kill time while you're waiting. Wait staff are friendly and great with refills; however, wait times for food can vary - we were waiting for a bit longer than usual this time. But no complaints, everything was cooked perfectly and order was right. Plus, we ordered the hush puppies to tie us over.

My only suggestions for mgmt, if they read this, are: Please add some grip tape on the ramp up to the outside rooftop seating. It was a bit slick and I'm sure both your servers and customers would appreciate it. Additionally, the ladies restroom could use an overhaul. When we were there they said only the bottom floor bathroom was available that day and I was a little surprised at its condition. I get it's older and as with a lot of places in Charleston, you've got limited space, but there were large, dusty cobwebs all over, dirty stools for a countertop, and large gaps in the bathroom door which was very... awkward. Especially as the person at the sink has no choice but to be right outside the one stall (I couldn't leave the stall until the two ladies at the sink finished up!) Just a little odd overall. We will be back though, because the food is good! Insider tip: Meter parking in the city is free on Sundays! If you're patient (and willing to do a lap or two around the block), chances are you'll...

Another Charleston tourist spot that just wasn't it. Came on a Sunday evening to celebrate some friends who had just gotten engaged at Waterfront Park, a 5 minute walk away. Dinner hadn't been part of the plan so we called to ask about availability. They shared they had space and we shared what we were celebrating. We showed up 15 minutes later and were seated immediately, but were very confused by the set up when we immediately walked in. Got seated, got our drinks, and got chatting. Ordered hushpuppies as apps. Yummy, more donut like than hushpuppies, not that I'm complaining. They were advertised as being served with honey butter, but the honey butter was a pre-packaged mass produced honey butter. Kinda a bummer. I ordered the redfish with a side of smashed potatoes and lima beans. Another friend ordered the shrimp 'n grits. My food was fine. The lima beans were so bland. Smashed potatoes were nothing fancy, just smashed potatoes with some cheese. The redfish had a Cajun cream sauce but it seemed like they put a whole tablespoon of the sauce on my filet, kinda bummed by that. Fish and seasoning was fine, but didn't do it for me. I tried my friends shrimp n grits - it was, again, just fine. Standard for Charleston, but I paid way more than I would prefer for an entree that size and of that low quality. Throughout the whole evening, no mention from the staff of the engagement we were celebrating. We weren't expecting free things, but would have loved a "hey, we heard this, congrats". Bummer. Save your money, go...
