Unlike some of the other Google reviews I've read, I did not have a pleasant customer experience at Modish Nail Spa. I am a current Plaza Midwood resident and I was so excited when they announced their opening in the neighborhood. I have visited the salon 3 times, and each time my experience has been progressively worse. I am extremely big on customer service, and this review is based on my most recent experience, which will be my last. I arrived for my 3pm appointment at 2:50 pm and was seated for a dip powder manicure. Around 3:25 pm I politely went to the receptionist, Samantha and asked how long would it be until I received my service. She said she didn't know. I asked again for an ETA, and I was met with "I don't know, we're busy". I kindly reminded her that at my previous appointment, a few weeks prior, I arrived 15 mins late and they were not willing to accommodate me, and specifically said I couldn't even wait for the next available nail tech. Apparently they were all booked for the day. So I was surprised that almost 30 mins into this appointment they didn't even have an ETA for me, as they seemed to be extremely rigid with appointment times. I asked if I could at least soak off my dip powder, I was told NO. The receptionist then pointed to another customer and said she also has a 3 pm appointment and that I would have to be seen after her. Again, I asked for an ETA and she refused to give me a time. She immediately told me if I wanted to complain I could speak to the manager. I didn't want to complain, but as a mom of an 11 month old, I just needed to understand how much longer I would be in the salon so I could plan for childcare, etc. It was now 3:30 pm and clients were walking in with later appts being serviced. I promptly grabbed my belongs and asked for information for the manager she recommended. Samantha said his contact information could not be provided. I asked for an email address where I could reach him and was told, their spa did not have email. Absolutely one of the worst experiences in Charlotte for nail services. I left and proceeded to Kouture Nail Bar, which is 0.5 miles down the street from Modish and was serviced immediately with no appointment. I hate pulling the race card, however the 3 times I have patroned their salon I was the only person of color receiving services, and I hate to think this was the reason for my treatment and experiences, as Plaza Midwood seems to be very inclusive. One of the main reasons my husband and I moved to this area.

Part 2 (in response to Business Owners reply):

I am extremely disappointed that by simply reviewing your business, you decided to double down and invalidate my account of the experience. I asked for your direct contact information or a general email address and was denied, which left me no choice but to leave this review. In regards to saying you have footage, what are you implying? I had a conversation and not an altercation with your staff. I was asking for additional information about my service time, and asked very simple questions that were refused to be answered. Again implying that you have some footage of me or that I am trying to sabotage your business, rather than understand how you can better service your clients is truly the unethical part. The reason I mentioned being a person of color (black female), is because I saw customers of other races that arrived after my appointment being serviced before me.

Part 3: To imply that I am trying to sabotage your business or be unethical, by leaving a review of the service I received from your front staff is overdone. I don’t have to make your business look bad, your responses show how you treat customers with concerns. Since you've trained the staff not to allow direct communication with management, I came to this platform. Sorry you received a bad review, sounds like your salon is perfect with zero opportunity for improvements, so I’m sure you’ll...

This is a review about the nail tech Bri, not a reflection of Modish Nail Spa at all. I've been there a dozen times since moving to Charlotte a year ago. I always get a regular pedicure and a DIP manicure with tips. From the second Bri sat down, she had a bad attitude. I don't know if she was going through something in her personal life but she was just not in a good mood from the get go. I often prefer a silent service so it did not bother me that she didnt speak the entire time (and when she did, she asked what I usually do to my nails and I responded and asked why? and she said "just asking" in a low tone). Again, when I've gotten my nail done here in the past, it usually takes an hour, Bri took 2 hours. She applied SO many layers of the powder and even applied two more coats of clear after the color powder which I've never seen.

When she was done, I was so tired of sitting there for 2 hours that I just wanted to pay and leave ASAP. I told the young man at the front that I was really unhappy with my nails and all he said was "oh. really?" - no customer service skills whatsoever.

I paid for my pedicure, tipped that tech (Bella) $10, paid the $75 for the manicure and left the salon. However, after leaving the parking lot, I looked down at my nails and was so upset with the look and feel of them as well as the zero customer service that I turned around.

They must have told Bri I was unhappy because the second I walked in she walked over to me and asked "what's wrong with them?" I started to explain that they were extremely thick, bumpy, and crooked and she cut me off and said the classic nail tech thing: "that's just your natural nail."

None of the techs before her have ever had a problem with my nails (I'll include a picture of a beautiful set that Yenny RL did back in May).

Bri proceeded to grab my hand and start taking video of my nails. She was so incredibly rude and saying things under her breath. Such a bad attitude and so so so terrible at her job.

She said someone would call me to talk about it (since the receptionist and the young man wouldn't make eye contact with me) but I don't trust her to pass the message along.

I'm including images of how terrible my $75 nails that took 2 hours to do look. SUCH a BAD...

I have been going to this location since it opened and went to the previous location before that. But I am sad to say I will no longer be coming once a month every month because they stopped caring about the results. I came in today genuinely asking about why my red nails speckled colored from the last time I was in and they said it was the quality of the S&S powder and that lately it’s been bad quality and that they have nothing to do with it. So then we’re just gonna put bad quality of S&S on clients fingernails and hope that they don’t care enough that their nails are speckled or have confidence to say something the next time they’re in? So I asked if she could get the color and she did then she asked me what I think and I said well I don’t know what it’s going to turn out like what do you think since you see this powder every day do you think it’s gonna turn out speckled and she’s like yeah. I’m like OK well then can you provide me a different red color that won’t have that same thing happen. She went and grabbed that color showing it to me again and I said that looks more consistent so if she think that it is I’m good with it. I soak and thought about the interaction it didn’t feel great due to the fact that she didn’t care she deflected and she just wanted to just do the job and I guess who cares if I like them or not. So I got up and went to the front asking how Much it was for the soak off I just had. The front desk went and spoke to her looking like their conversation was more like a who cares if she wants to stay then a how did we get her to stay. Then the Front desk said don’t worry about it you can go. No why are you wanting to go no sorry what happened because they don’t care. I even said I’m surprised you’re not asking why but it feels like it’s because you don’t care. So no problem I won’t be back. I’m just a client that comes in gets the same thing each time follows the lead of my tech and tips well. So don’t bother they will put stuff on your nails that they don’t even stand by and hate you...

First and foremost, this nail salon is LAVISH! From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with greenery and the lavish atmosphere. It felt like I was stepping into a small oasis. My appointment was at 2 pm and I got there early and was seen immediately with no problems. The ONLY unfortunate part for me was that this establishment ran out of "Wine" cups so I was not able to order their holiday mimosa or any other wine which is a BIG bummer as I love to sip on wine when I'm getting my nails done. I feel like maybe they could have done better with making sure they didn't run out as IT is part of the experience. I did end up getting a TRULY, but it just unfortunately did not hit like a glass of wine would have, but oh well. None the less, my Deluxe Pedicure from Kim was EVERYTHING! I never splurge on a fancy pedicure (always get the basic), so this was really some TLC for my feet. It was very soothing and calming and I definitely enjoyed it. It was exactly what I needed. I ended up getting SNS with manicure since I was already here. Kim was very gentle and efficient. Got my nails exactly how I wanted. I opted out for nail design as they do charge extra, but either way, I still liked the outcome. Now, this salon is on the pricier side. You are paying for the experience, ambiance, the variety of drinks they offer, and of course their efficiency. They do have another location in Matthew's, but i was told it was by a different owner. I'm glad Yelp created a nice pampering event and loved it. Thanks again, Ashley, for your hard word and to Modish for hosting! - a side note, they do have parking beside the building and behind, but if they are full, I believe their is side street parking and at harris Teeter. This is a big location with plenty of bar and pedicure seats, but of course, appointments ahead of time are recommended.

Posting this for my sister as she does can not at the time. She went here on 2/4 to get her nails done while she waited for a coworker from another place to meet her to do somethings at the job. She figured the plaza midwood location she’d try since it was down the road. She left and called me immediately telling me she paid $100 for her nails and they’re not even $100 worthy. She got nothing special. Almond nails black and one nail pink. She sat down and the lady started soaking them. A couple minutes into soaking the lady said “oh we charge $25 for soak is that okay?” My sister is like well I’m already soaking so what am I supposed to do now? Then the lady said “oh we charge for tips” my sister said no big that’s usual. Then asked what shape she wanted and she said just almond and the lady said oh we charge extra for shapes, you still want it? She said well you’ll charge me no matter what shape I choose. All in all, from places we’re used too and have been this is a little much to charge $25 for soak off and then proceed to tell her AFTER every step it’s extra instead of before or laying it out to begin with. Just have a base charge why does everything have to be extra, since when does doing a shape cost extra? Never from the places we’ve been too. Disappointed for her and she’s upset she paid so much for again not $100 worthy nails. They’re nice but not worth that kind of money.
