My partner and I came to Virginia for a few days to have fun and get away from it all in a yurt, and we should’ve just stayed there the whole time. After being thoroughly disappointed with the surrounding towns near where we were staying in Amherst due to restaurants being vividly judgmental of us and getting constant stares, we thought we’d give Charlottesville a chance since we read it’s more open to the LGBTQ+ community. Well, you can’t believe everything you read, and this was one of them. We were met with more stares although it was less, it was still very uncomfortable. We went to three different places to dine for our anniversary Citizen Burger Bar and Rapture being a couple of them. In Citizen Burger Bar we were getting looked at so often we stopped eating and left although their fries were amazing. At Rapture the lady that sat us and got our drinks was nice and we thought we’d be okay.. that’s until she misgendered me in front of other customers and my partner. We finished our one drink each and decided we no longer wanted to eat a meal there or even stay any longer in Virginia so we packed up and left. Very disappointing, will not be back. Next time a server is confused on how to refer to another person, especially a customer, maybe they should use the gender neutral they/them pronouns instead of possibly...
Read moreWe've had many good meals in Charlottesville; there are many excellent restaurants to chose from. We thought we'd try Rapture on a nice weather night where we could dine outside. They advertise as farm-to-table which is a plus in my book and the posted menu featured some appealing choices although the menu we scanned at the table may have been slightly different. My margarita was good; my husband's Old Fashioned was a miss. The thinnest slice of tiny dry orange rind was the garnish and instead of simple syrup, a small lump of granular something was found at the bottom of his drink. It did not come with a stir stick so all was lost on that. His cheese steak was fine, my short ribs were very fatty and the dish was served lukewarm. The scant amount of fried onions on top were wilted and there was about a fourth of a small celery stick and a few small purple carrots(?) floating in the lukewarm grits. Our server asked if I'd like it boxed to take home and I let her know that it was very fatty and just not good. She removed my plate without saying a word. No rapture here, unfortunately. We hated to leave so disappointed as we were excited to try someplace new. A scoop of ice cream from nearby Chaps was quickly employed to...
Read moreIt's been a while since I've been here. The last time I was here the food was good, not great. Since we have so many great resturants, and I mean really great, in Charlottesville, Rapture isn't very high on the list. What they do have is great outdoor seating, wonderful for people watching, decent drinks, and fairly good food. I've heard that brunch is very good here, but I haven't been. This is the place to go if you want nightlife. Although their dance floor is tiny, it's always packed. Music is good, and there are pool tables. If you don't get there early you won't be playing pool however. I don't like that they make you pay so much for the cover charge, imo. You can go to the bar, play pool, and order wings (I recommend them!) without paying the cover charge. But if you want to dance, they charge you. I think that's unfair... It's not like you're in NYC and there's a great dance floor, there's not. So I've never seen the point of paying to literally use the tiny dance floor. You can just dance in the regular...
