For me there are two quintessential New England must do summer activities while visiting the town of Chatham:
Chatham Band concerts in the heart of town.
Cape Cod Baseball League - Chatham has the Anglers, who used to be known as the A's until 2008.
The Cape League is a the premiere summer league for college players from all over the country. It's truly an honor to get invited to play with this historical organization. According to Wiki, this league was founded in 1885 and in 2014 there were 265 Cape Cod alumni playing in MLB.
Some notable former Cape League players include Thurman Munson, Joe Girardi, Aaron Judge, Jacoby Elisbury, Kevin Youkilis, and Jason Varitek.
The games are free, but they have a 50/50 raffle at each one, merchandise such as hats and shirts are sold and local businesses also help sponsor this team.
There is a small lot near the field, so if that is filled you might wish to park in town in the public lots behind Ben Franklin.
Seating is bleacher style, but there are some grassy spots where you could put a folding beach chair. Nights on the Cape can be cool, so bringing a throw blanket or sweatshirt can be helpful. There is also a concession stand on premise selling snacks.
These games are truly a community event. The players are housed with volunteer host families for the duration of the season. Other individuals provide team meals for the players to eat after the games.
The season is fairly short, it only runs from mid-June through the first week of August. This is the perfect activity for baseball fans while vacationing...

This park could do with a major overhaul of its bleachers, which are a nightmare to traverse, and not terribly comfortable. Also, you need to arrive early if you want to avoid a hike - parking can be a mess.
That said, the field itself is very nice, the bathroom facility is close and adequate, and there is a nice little playground adjacent to the field for kids.
Where the Chatham Anglers experience really stands out from its peers in the CCBL is the merchandise area. If you can't find a t-shirt you like somewhere in there, you have very particular taste, because there is an astonishing variety available for you.
7:00 start times mean June games will be chilly. Honestly, no team should be starting games later than 6 until Independence Day, in my opinion, but the locals don't...
Read moreGreat place if your in the mood for baseball. The Cape cod league has really stepped it up and I hope they continue to do so. Chatham is my go to from Dennis mid week for entertainment. They draw a lot of fans, have a nice 50/50 always good prizes but their concession food stand sucks, 4.50 for a hot dog?! Then sell them for a buck 2 innings later? Chili is not good either, but a great place to watch a game, the field is like most in CC not college quality but the atmosphere on most nights make up for it, great playground for kids too. 4 stars for the environment, the quality of play, the staff is top notch, the broadcast crew, Minuses are for small stuff like parking (sometimes) , the concession stand and lack of options on the menu. Def one of the better ballparks...
