This Inn seemed to very much be a "wannabe" place, but didn't know quite know what it takes to be a nice Inn.
While not on the beach or ocean, the location is a great downtown one.
Service seemed reluctantly provided, and with an attitude. They provided a low level of service: with two people at the front desk and no other customers there, I waited for one on the computer to finish or the other on their cell phone to finish. The two seemed to be playing a game of chicken, which would break and help the customer. If a question was outside the typical front desk question the answer wasn't, anything to the effect of "let me see if I can help you with that", but "I'm not sure" or "I don't know."
A top end (there are three levels) king room had one chair in it, fine when I'm alone on business, but I don't think that's the bulk of the clientele. The room needs two chairs or a couch, which there was space for. The chair itself was very discolored at contact surfaces: top of arms, seat and back. Color was quite different (looked cleaner) on non-contact surfaces such as sides. We didn't know if it was dirty or if the color had worn. Other than color, fabric seemed to be in okay condition. We didn't/wouldn't sit in it. Bed was good for sleeping, and we also sat on it.
There were three windows, one larger two smaller, but the larger was broken. The sash would go up, but when released would slam down. There was some wood rot that had some black dots in it. Mold?
Bathroom was fine, but plain, devoid of decor and even missing some typical items such as a hair dryer. The showerhead moved minimally, and angled up so the spray couldn't be avoided.
The outlets at the head of the bed were full and no outlet was available in the nightstand light or otherwise. We pulled the nightstands out, unplugged stuff and plugged our stuff in. It worked, but more appropriate of a Motel 6, not the nice Inn this wants to be.
The Continental breakfast was very plain and uninspiring: bowl of cut up, unripe cantaloupe and honeydew, blueberries, juices, coffee, tea, water, little packs of typical Kellogg's cereals, yogurt, and mass produced, plastic bag bagels and white and wheat bread with a toaster available.
We were here one night and...
Read moreWe called that morning to ask if the restaurant has vegan options. We were told the chef could make something.
We arrive at 11:30 right when they open for lunch. There is no one else waiting to eat.
I immediately ask the hostess if she could ask the chef what vegan dish he could make for us. She looks incredulous. As if how dare we make such a request. She tells us that they have no vegan options and that we can have a salad.
First off none of their salads were vegan. So she suggested we remove the cheeses and meats and basically pay $15-$20 for straight up lettuce and dressing. And salad just isn't a meal. And pretty much every restaurant I've been to in recent years understands this and has something beyond lettuce.
I tell her that I'm looking for a more substantial meal and she, seemingly exasperated, asks me what I had in mind.
I'm sorry but no 'nice' restaurant I've ever been to had made me come up with the meal selection. I don't know what you have in your kitchen and I don't know what the chef is capable of and I don't know what kind of time/staffing restraints they have. But fine. How about rice and roasted vegetables. They can't do that. Ok.. At this point I pick up a menu and start reading to see what ingredients the kitchen does have. After less than 30 seconds the hostess gives up apologizes half heartily and leaves. Aka it's not her problem anymore.
We're here with family and my uncle is pissed. He goes and talks to the hostess. He comes back no, nothing.
Finally the hostess returns and says she remembers that on the kids menu there is plain pasta and marinara sauce. Fine. I order the $1 box pasta and store bought marinara sauce.
I'm there because I am with family. We buried my father that morning after he passed from a stroke. But I will never return to the Wayside Inn.
That's the kind of service and treatment I expect from a tgi Fridays. Oh wait, tgi Fridays was more accommodating when I went there...
Read moreChristmas at the Wayside Inn, Chatham has been a truly wondrous experience. My fiancé and I flew up from our home in Ft Lauderdale to announce our engagement to her family in person, in addition to spending the Christmas Holidays with them. We made arrangements to stay at the Wayside Inn for our stay. The Hotel/Inn is lovely and quant. We received a complimentary room upgrade upon our arrival and the staff was exceptional in so many ways. As many travelers know, the holidays can be a difficult time for folks in the hospitality and service industry as well as for the guest. Additionally, many hotel services that one would generally expect to receive can be a tad limited during the holiday season as management tries to balance their service staffs time between their families and their job. Suffice to say that the hotel and staff did an excellent job at providing superior and exceptional services to their guest during this holiday period. We were especially surprised to find some lovely gifts wrapped up outside of our room as we opened the door on Christmas morning. What a wonderful surprise! I have stayed at some of the finest 5 star hotels and resorts throughout the world but have never experienced the genuine warmth and feelings of belonging that we experienced by all of the service staff at the Wayside Inn during this holiday period. It truly exceeded our expectations in so many ways. As my fiancé’s family is from the general area, going forward, we will continue to book our stays at this lovely...
