TERRIBLE GYM - I resisted the urge to post this but I have to. The manager there made me feel small, and worthless. Here's the story. I used to go to this gym when I was a television reporter and I was super skinny. people were nice and helpful. Well last year I fell into the worse depression of my life and gained 100 pounds. I decided to go to Onelife to get healthy. I got a membership in March. Something has changed there. It is either me because I got fat or them. I was treated way different. For starters I asked to be signed up for my free sessions twice. On one ocassion the trainer said he couldn't schedule me because it "wasn't his job" . It was 8:00 a.m. in the morning, the only time I felt comfortable going in my fat skin, and he couldn't do it. Life was getting difficult financially and I wanted to end my membership I went in even though I was uncomfortable and a manager there said , "I don't have time for this. I have a corporate account." So I guess that is more important than us regular guests. I did not have the money to break the contract and I was getting desperate. so I called again. This time a female account representative told me I could get out of my psychiatrist send a letter to them. She also sent me to the manager who went onto say he was a big guy in town, sensitive to mental health, and studied sociology. He bashed Gold Gyms which I love, and so on. I got the paperwork from my psychiatrist and I took it in the Onelife myself. I also told them since they were so rude I wanted a refund, I was told I'd get that. When I gave the paper to the manager at the front desk he shoved it in my face. "I don't need this" I said but you asked for it. I felt like he was trying to get rid of me. I felt so terrible that I cried in the cry. I never got a receipt, and I never got that refund that was promised to me. I live with depression and anxiety. This was so wrong on so many levels. I tweeted about it and Onelife corporate talked to me but had no soultions. All I say is BUYER BEWARE and if you don't have too don't piss off that manager. he...
Read moreNot worth the price, especially with the amount of broken equipment everywhere. After my yearly contract expired, I was relieved to be done with One Life. I was tired of finding broken treadmills, missing weight, and malfunctioning machines during my workouts. At first, I would tell the staff about the machines, but I finally just gave up and modified my workouts when I came across anything that didn't work. All the staff would do is put a sign on the junky gear, then "repair" it. It became apparent that the gym is more interested in getting the contracts signed than actually replacing dilapidated gear.
Another problem is with the trainers. The male trainers are scrawny and arrogant and really, really annoying. If you are trying to overdevelop your pecs and get the hunched over look, then they are perfect, but if you want a solid, balanced workout from a trainer who looks fit, then these trainers are not for you. I watched them train people day after day with horrible dated techniques and methods. To be fair, the trainers at the Norfolk location are much better. The equipment however, is about the same.
The gym gets very crowded during peak times, which is to be expected and not a huge problem, as long as you can find serviceable gear. There is also a HUGE issues with campers, people who sit on equipment and chat instead of working out. That's not really the gym's fault, but it is irritating when you have to change your workout to accommodate a broken piece of equipment, and some moron is sitting on the only working shoulder press machine chatting it up.
The only good thing I can say about this franchise is, although the equipment is bad, they have 5 (I believe) locations, so you likely have one close by, if you don't mind bad equipment and...
Read moreBeware don't ever ever get a personal trainer here. First ; Onelife introduce' you to a trainer (Ken) which is someone ; similar to car salesman. Very nice guy , fast talker and says whatever to get you to sign a contract. When he's done your paying $280 every two weeks for 6 months plus 29.99 for membership plus onetime fees, and $39.00 yearly fee for equipment. But is it worth it, No. For this type of money you would assume you are getting the best. First session : I met the trainer that would train my son 15 years old, observed the first session and trainer(Mike) before signing contract and schedule 7pm Trainer agreed. Second session:; Trainer (Mike)explained he had personal issues and he could not train at 7pm and wanted introduced my son to another trainer. Instead I worked with him because my son was comfortable working with him. Therefore we worked around the trainer schedule at a great inconvenience to my husband and I. Schedule 5 pm Third session: schedule at 5. at trainer request . Receive a text day of appointment 2hr before session. Stating He was sick and could he come in until 6pm. I has already discussed these issues with john the director. And always received a smile with no action. The first three sessions was free. But never gave me back 140 for the remain classes in the week. I cancel my contract and paid 170 for nothing. Tried to speak to general manager. Guy at front desk stated they didn't have a general .manager. Then I ask who office is that behind you. "Oh general manager".Melissa. busy and dont deal with clients.
