The Allies Pub – Chico, CA
Atmosphere & Setting We found The Allies Pub tucked into the heart of downtown Chico at 426 Broadway St., Ste 130—a charming hideaway that artfully channels the feel of a traditional British pub. Inside, you’ll notice cozy touches: warm lighting, décor nodding to British pub-heritage (including artwork of English bulldogs), and a welcoming vibe.
While the menu is relatively compact, there’s a sense of focus and quality over quantity. One minor caveat: a few diners mention the price point being on the higher side for pub fare—but the consensus seems to be that the ingredients and preparation justify it.
Beverages & Service The Allies also shines in its beverage offerings. It’s part of the larger framework of the British Bulldog Brewery, so there’s an emphasis on craft ales, rotating taps, and even some British-style cask options. Service consistently receives praise: staff are friendly, attentive, and draw compliments for their knowledge of both food and beer.
Final Thoughts We’d rate The Allies Pub as a strong choice when you’re in Chico and craving a well-crafted pub experience—not just in food and drink, but in ambiance and service, too. It’s particularly well suited for: • An evening out with friends where you want more than just “bar snacks.” • A date night on the patio with good beer and comfort food. • Beer or pub-food aficionados looking for something out of the standard chain model.
Recommendation: Make a reservation if it’s a weekend evening—they get busy. And if the weather allows, opt for patio seating; it’s a...
Read moreWow! I don't say that lightly. From the patio fire table to the delicious creative assortment of dinners and appetizers (albeit small menu) they hit every note at Allies Pub. Wine and beers offered top it all off to make one of the most enjoyable Friday evenings I've had at a restaurant in Chico in a very long time.
Hidden behind BofA it has a quiet and cozy patio that welcomes you into an adorable restaurant. The love put into creating this family owned restaurant is obvious. We ordered a large array of food while we were there and not one dish disappointed us. Portions are excellent, recipes created with real home cooking and distinct flavors. Their hard work pays off for anyone who enjoys great food and the most attentive, friendly and welcoming service we have had since the start of Covid.
Do pay attention to reservation times at tables. We were having so much fun we overstayed our reservation. However, they handled this with grace and we left knowing we will be back. Evenings on the patio are a...
Read moreThe atmosphere here is what wins this place over. The outdoor and indoor seating looks good and well accented by a beautiful old brick building.
We ordered one drink, two entrees, and a pretzel - it cost $76, not counting tips. This should give you an idea of how expensive this place is. I think my wallet had a stroke.
The food itself tasted alright. Didn't blow my socks off. A lot of the items are paired with a really big salad without dressing - it was bizarre.
Tried four different drinks that they recommended - the cocktail was good, but the three beers were all very heavy and dark (even the blonde one). If you're into that, you'll love them, but it wasn't my preference.
The crowd here was a bit older and wasn't obnoxious at all, which was nice. The place is well shielded from the insanity of college students on the main strip, and parking was easy.
The service was really nice.
The pretzels here...
