This is coming from someone who's favorite museum is the National Museum of the USAF near Dayton, OH. Our little family made a spontaneous trip up here on a Saturday morning. About 1h45m drive one way, and worth every minute!

We were greeted by a volunteer, who gave us an informative tour, answered many questions, and showed us inside the C-123. His only request, in both the C-47 and C-123, was not to touch things in the cockpit, since they both still fly. These are the centerpieces and pride of the museum. The C-47 didn't make it to Germany in time for the invasion of Normandy, but helped supply Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge and took place in Operation Varsity in March 1945. The C-123 "Thunderpig" may be the only of its kind that still flies, touring air shows nation wide, and most recently flown by Tom Cruise in "American Made." I'm not sure everyone will be granted such an excellent tour, but our experience was perfect.

Aside from these main attractions, the hangar, and grounds were full of little treasures. The more time you're willing to spend here, the more you'll appreciate the passion behind the museum, the little acquisitions, and many ongoing projects. And who doesn't like to walk right up to an F-15 and F-4? It ain't Wright-Patterson, but...

Something different!

My husband and I stopped by this museum on our anniversary getaway. It was something different to do. Lots of items having to do with aviation and military.

Entering, you are in a room with a lot of objects; medals, photos, etc..The next room is the hanger. Half the lights were off when we were there so it was kind of hard to see. There were a few gentlemen there. I thought they would have given us some sort of tour or even turned on the other lights, but they didn’t. It was very warm so maybe trying to keep it cool? I do wish they would have let us know what we were seeing.

We were told by someone beforehand that a plane there was used in a movie and I wanted to see it! It was in the lot outside amongst some other aircrafts. American Made starring Tom Cruise was the movie and there is a plane that was in the movie briefly. Still was excited to see it!

Giving a 4 star simply because we weren’t offered a tour. A cool museum overall!

Good for kids. Family friendly. Gift shop.

*wheelchair accessible parking lot...

This place is great. My son loves it. We have came at least 4 times. It’s not your typical museum but it has a lot to offer the flight enthusiast. My son loves to get in the planes and look over all the model airplanes. The men there have always been really nice to my son and ready to answer and questions. Many times they have jumped to give us impromptu private tours and even taken family photos. There is active airplane remodeling going on so you may have to duck under a wing or shimmy around an object but it is always a fun adventure. I wouldn’t drive hours to get here for the sole purpose of spending the day if you are making the trip for little ones. It’s doubtful the place will hold their attention that long but if you are in the area it’s a great place to stop. There is no admission cost but be sure to buy some souvenirs and donate so we can enjoy it for...

I saw the little blue sign on 51 so many times and finally decided to stop and see what this place was! The museum in the front is small but robust! I really enjoyed the Wright Brothers display with the patent for their “flying machine!” There are model planes, photos, paintings, newspaper articles, gear, and more! From what I understand veterans run the place and when I stopped by they were hanging out in the hangar area. It was neat to learn some of the items and even the planes outside were flown by some of those very vets! I don’t know much about flight but one of the men showed us around a bit and explained how the one plane was in a Tom Cruise movie! Neat experience, I’d suggest stopping by if you’re in the area!
