Clean, modern, organized, and offers the largest selection of Asian groceries that you’ll find in a 50-mile radius. The same owners have a larger store in Syracuse, but their Ithaca outpost certainly beats anything in Binghamton.
The store was slammed on the first day due to multiple power outages that shut down all card transactions (and the black out affected all buildings and traffic lights in surrounding blocks). The girl who was in charge of the store did her best to manage the crisis and I certainly think it’s a shame that the fragile and dated infrastructure became part of their first impression of Ithaca. Cashiers are still inexperienced and don’t know how to scan certain unmarked items - this is something that should’ve been addressed in a soft opening or during training.
My complaint is that some customers received gifts and others, myself included, didn’t. Further, the idea that you can buy papayas and persimmons in dozens only is just laughable.
Also, while this doesn’t apply to most items, some products are priced much higher than their Syracuse store and local competitors so you do want to check the price of everything before buying. I also saw a box of frozen conch meat for $70 - I hope Ithaca is hip enough for...
Read moreThis is a great Asian mart with a nice variety of options. They have fresh produce items of napa cabbage, bean sprouts, daikon radish, burdock root, galangal, Okinawan purple sweet potato, taro, and much more. They have a seafood counter, a large refrigerator section with lots of ready-made or quick heat food items. There’s also a great selection of frozen items for every kind of gyoza, dumpling, shu mai, bao buns, and so much more.
There’s plenty of dessert items from ice cream varieties and coconut buns to name a few. This mart also has a large selection within their aisles of every kind of ramen and noodle you could want, lots of herbs, spices, dried jujube, dried lotus seed, dried mushroom varieties, and a great choice for different teas. This is a wonderful place to come and get so many items, even if you’re from a different background, which I am, come here and shop. The only thing I would change is my approach. I will be sure I prepare a list of ingredients I would like beforehand, and then anything extra I buy is...
Read moreThe women at the register has bad attitudes towards me everytime, she always aggressively forces me to use their boxes instead of brown paper bag. These boxes accumulated in my house and it became hard to get rid of them. The store uses customers as a way to get rid these boxes they opened, most importantly, they force to do so. I visited the store today again, lady got angry at me for not using the box. She also nice towards non Asian people, but have a bad attitude towards Asian students here in Ithaca, I feel sad after visiting, ruined...
