For anyone trying to find their Greyhound bus, I'd like to update you all that the bus stop has apparently moved again to Pleasant Street near the St. Joseph's parking garage. I myself have not experienced this firsthand, but I discovered this by looking for trips through Greyhound's site. You will also notice a new bus stop on Google Maps at the correct new location of the Greyhound and Flixbus bus stop.
I guess this could be nice for anyone needing to transfer to RTS buses, since it's now a shorter walk to the bus terminal. Still, there's no shelter here, so you're exposed to the elements while waiting for your bus. The most annoying thing about this, though, is just how many times Greyhound/Flix have changed the pickup location (this is the THIRD time!). If Greyhound/Flix want customers, they should find a spot that makes sense - or at least be consistent with their location.
This recent change adds to their lack of reliability, which I had a personal experience with - a few months ago, a Greyhound bus didn't even come (I fortunately got reimbursed, but I have a friend who didn't get reimbursed and lost nearly $50).
Anyone who wants a reliable bus for a good value should go with either Trailways, which has an enclosed terminal (run-down, yes, but at least it's a dedicated building), or Ourbus, which sells tickets for under half the price of both Greyhound and Trailways (they pick up from the airport). In Rochester in 2023, nobody should have to rely on Greyhound/Flix, a company that has gone far downhill in the last...
Read moreIt's not terrible assuming you get a seat. But honestly that challenging. You can get there early (2-3 hours), but if you're not in line fast enough, there might not be enough seats. See, they sell tickets under the same premise as public transportation. So, you buy a ticket for the subway, if the car is full you have to wait for the next one (if you can get on that one). The busses are the same way. So, if you're not at a large origination hub (like NYC) you can wait an average of 4-5 hours for the next one. The busses promise WiFi, but most of the time I've ridden it either doesn't exist, has a password (for whatever reason), or is slow enough that you probably won't even be able to load the Google homepage. Outlets are usually spaced so you have two every three rows, so you might not get one of those.
Finally, don't get an exit row unless you have to be the first one off in an emergency. The seats in those rows don't recline.
Honestly, it's a pretty poor experience. Cheap, but honestly I'd rather not give them my money. Don't do it unless you have to or are short on cash. There is no excuse (other than greed) for a company in this electronic age to not be able to reserve a head count of seats. I've had nothing to make me think that they value me as a customer, and so I will stop...
Read moreWORST EXPERIENCE! 3 friends and I took it from Rochester, NY to Panama City, Florida for spring break. We were promised buses with wifi and outlets. On one of our buses there was NONE of that. Some of the drivers we had were incredibly rude. Our bus was almost late for one of our transfers in Montgomery, AL and when I asked both the woman at the desk and the driver they both told be they didn't think they were going to call to hold the next bus for us!!!!!!!!! I kept getting answers like "I don't know" or "You'll be fine." The boarding procedures at each stop were all different and increasingly less efficient. I also do not understand why every time we stopped we had to leave the bus. One time they made us get off for 5 mins while they moved the bus to a different space only for us to get back on again. It was the worst trip of my entire life and I will NEVER take a greyhound bus for the...
