This is not my first time attending the reptile show. However, it is my first review about the westchester county center and Reptile Expo in white plains. On September 7 I here bright and early, just so I can be one of the first 20 to enter and actually see this setup without the overcrowding of people. This place gets crowded when people come out to take care of their reptiles and amphibians. I will certainly highlight in my description A couple of places such as JUGGERNAUT REPTILES who had on display the baby's to a beautiful gorgeous black with hues of copper samantran python. The mother to these babies can be seen in the pictures below. What I enjoyed about conversing with the lady who held this table was she was knowledgeable and she is also experienced in caring 4 such a snake as well as others. It still excites her to speak about her involvement in the industry, that's how, you know, a person loves what they're doing. It hurts my heart to know that there are people who just come to the show just to make a profit and don't care for the animals properly, but that is not the case with this vendor. I suggest you guys check out the show next time and look for this vendor. Moving forward, let's briefly talk about the arena or center, depending on how one wants to describe this place. It's absolutely structured beautifully. Although a little small, it puzled me to know that there were displays that the NY Knicks play basketball here. Is it possible? Well, I doubt that it would be legal to state it If it wasn't a fact or that, it would be illegal to display the logo if it wasn't a fact? Am I right? I just can't see those 6 foot 8 guys coming through the doors. So the court, it's a bit small but that's just my eyesight, however, very beautiful. The seats appear to be well kept and that's always a plus as far as comfortability, I don't know, I didn't sit in them, but I definitely do love the color maroon. The entire center from the 1st floor was very clean And the bathrooms, although outdated, very clean. Now let's get back to the show. The EXPO featured chameleons, Pythons, dragons, frogs, turtles and plants, rats, crickets, hornworms, isopods, mealworms, superworms and Etc. So as you see your needs to feed, your animals can be found here. The next EXPO is in November. Nah, I do not get paid to advertise and I don't know these guys from a prize in a cracker Jack box. But when I see an event that really has a great lineup of qualified vendors, I will certainly shout it out every time so shout out to These vendors whose names are displayed in the pictures I posted and continue to bring us quality animals that later become our family. My (PSA) Public Service Announcement, DO NO, purchase an animal you cannot handle and take care of. Often times people purchase a small snake or turtle or even a dog and it grows to be huge. They later realize it's too much. So sometimes they'll release it into a park, sometimes they'll give it to another irresponsible person with even less knowledge, and sometimes it will the animal will die due to improper care. Come on, I beg of you Don't take the life or shorten the life of an animal You cannot care...
Read moreWe went to the Metro New York Reptile Expo, and while my family and I enjoyed the Expo very much, the facilities could use some improvement. I am not expecting the Javits Center, but a few things could have been done to improve our experience; I will, however, start with the positives.
It is very conveniently located. It is within walking distance of the MetroNorth station, a station I have gotten to know well because my older son goes to school near here. I also enjoy the walk along the Bronx River Pathway, which is tranquil, even with the industrial aspects nearby, as this is White Plains - a small City north of New York City. The Bee-Line, Westchester County's local bus system, also stops there, and there is ample parking, from what I saw, but I did not drive there. Because you are in downtown White Plains, there are some restaurants not too far away if you are looking for something outside the area.
The architecture is also appealing, as the building has a long history. It is built in a neo-classical style similar to other buildings of its time.
Here are the not-so-good aspects. Area-wise, it is not particularly large. For the Expo, the event was packed with vendors, and there were no places for people to sit. There are some vending machines and a Nathan's for food, but they only give you a few standing tables to eat. We had to sit on the floor in the hallway that connects the main space with the annex. There, they only had a few chairs, which I assume are for people with limited mobility, so I declined to sit on them. There are plenty of seats in the main area because it is also used as a basketball arena, but the organizers closed that off for visitors. At least the food is decently priced, especially for a convention center.
Finally, the wi-fi is really spotty, which I found suprising for a Convention Center. Maybe I just needed to get the Wi-Fi password to log in, but I was surprised why I could not just log in the Guest Wi-Fi and get decent wi-fi. Don't tell me that a bunch of herpetology enthusiasts hogged up the bandwidth.
In general, I enjoyed myself there, but the space was much...
Read moreThe Westchester County Center is a terrible place to have a large event. Traffic getting into the parking area was really a mess. We were stuck at the intersection outside the parking area for more than ten minutes before we finally got to enter. It was a Wednesday afternoon, so the only traffic was for the graduation we were attending, and they were completely unprepared to handle it. We had to park far away, and it took a while to find a spot. The room where they held the graduation was OK. There is nothing really special about it. There was a Nathan's hot dog counter to one side, but none of us ate there. Once the graduation was over, we just wanted to grab the graduate and get out of there. But with everyone who graduated standing by the front entrance to the building and taking pictures with their families, we could not find her. That took...
