So there a pros & cons to purchasing from this store, and as a consumer you should be educated
Pros: 1.They have a large & diverse assortments of lights (no surprise there), you can turn them on and off, they have enough variety in shape, sizes that you can truly get a feel for what you like and dont like
They are friendly in that weird new york, sort-of-wont-greet-you-when-you-waalk-through-door kind of way and will help you to narrow down your purchase. but sometimes can be pushy and off-putting for indecisive people like my husband & I.
adequate customer service in that when one of our lights came into their warehouse broken, they shipped us a new item to our home.
cons: medieval return policy: they do not refund money back. in the age of amazon, ebay, and google where young professionals have become accustomed to superb return policies where if an item does not work out, we can get a refund, the company does not refund your money back. We found this out quickly enough when we purchased an item shy of 1000$ and were unable to get a refund back. It all worked out because we needed 3 light fixtures; but, what if we didn't need 3 light fixtures?! This alone has discouraged us from purchasing again from the store. its not personal, and this may not be a big deal for some people, but it was for us. Alternatively, they could do a restocking fee as many companies do, and we feel this would be a way to begin to enter the modern age of return policies and allow for more younger customer base to be built.
Your unable to take pictures of the items, and they have no real information of the items on the floor. In other words, you're unable to verify the materials. For example, if you're interested in purchasing all wood vanity from here, you wouldn't be able to verify except from what a sales person tells you: this is really unacceptable. For example, we purchased a vanity and sales person said it was wood. After the purchase, we did some research and found out that it was engineered wood (MDF). We had to immediately return since MDF is readily known for breaking down in high humidity locations like bathrooms.
All in all, fine experience, with room for improvement in some...
Read moreWe’ve been customers of Hi-Light for nearly 10 years now. We’ve purchased both lights and vanities and have always left satisfied. I appreciate that each time we go they’ve updated what’s being displayed, and you can see a wide variety from traditional, transitional, and modern styles. The customer service is hands-on which you really need because the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and know what comes in other sizes, colors, or can make suggestions when you’re reacting one way or another to a light. Most recently we came in for 2 light fixtures for our new home. A 2-story foyer was really intimidating me because I knew the light needed to be a statement but also was going to be hanging there for a long time. Allison listened as we walked through the store, making suggestions here and there, and really put the time in. She and John helped design the mostly beautiful fixture and it’s truly one of a kind. They gave us confidence that decisions we were making were the right ones, ie. scale and coloring. The timeline was as expected, they called when it came in stock and we were just so very pleased once it was hung. In the era of online ordering, I’m just so happy there are these type of businesses as an option. Pictures don’t do it justice. The piece...
Read moreFor over ten years Hi-Light has been my first and last stop for lighting needs. Given the incredible selection on display, it can be a bit intimidating at first glance. However, the staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. Given their attention to detail and patience working with clients, I highly recommend scheduling an appointment if you are there for more than a light or two -- otherwise you might have to wait a bit. I have worked with Allison for each project I have done. I can show her a picture or describe something and she magically finds it in their books behind the counter if it is not on display. Once she gets a sense of your taste, the project and your budget, she is able to offer countless suggestions. She has a great eye. Aside from supporting a local store, the prices are consistently lower than what you can find online. Do yourself a favor and go...
