I recently purchased a wedding ring upgrade at the Kay at Steelyard Commons, but decided to take the ring back five days after purchase. I was told by the store manager that my balance was back to zero (I had been a customer with Kay for years).
Two months later, I get a collection call on behalf of Comenity Bank, which does the financing for Kay Jewelers, and was told I had a past due balance of 104 dollars. After a very angry phone call with Kay over the phone, I went to the store in person to find out what happened. Turns out, there was a 33 dollar "finance fee" that was secretly put on my account without my knowledge; again, I had been told that there was no down payment, and that upon returning my ring my balance was zero. And on top of the fee, which no one made me aware of, I was hit with late fees as well.
The store manager blamed the bank for not telling HER about the "finance fee" -- which, by the way, is a completely ludicrous concept anyway: What do you think INTEREST is for, stupid??? -- and that she had no idea I was ever charged. So basically the store manager's (her name is Joy) excuse was basically, "I'm an incompetent idiot." How does one sell a product, yet not educate the buyer of the terms and conditions? Outrageous.
I also don't believe her excuse for a second. You mean to tell me ever since this bank has taken over loans for Kay Jewelers -- about 2 and half years ago -- you've been selling jewelry under false pretenses, not even knowing you are exposing your customers to hidden fees, which also turn into late fees?
And the bank itself is so shady for what they did: Never sent me a bill, email, or even bothered to call to let me know I was incurring late fees or even let me know that I HAD ANY BUSINESS WITH THEM. I'm thinking my account is closed & my balance is zero, remember.
Comenity Bank is a scam, who make money off of deceptive practices and late fees. By extension, Kay is complicit, and I am still bewildered by their deceptive, malicious business practices. Of course she knew about the "finance fee" -- she just wanted the sale, she'd say anything. This woman is Trump-lite, perhaps she should run for office.
The workers of Kay at Steelyard Commons are amoral, and frankly, criminal. Stay away at all cost.
I should also note: The initial ring I picked out was later found to be of very poor quality after independent investigation, and that's why I returned it. Kay is the McDonald's of jewelry stores, and while the people who work at Steelyard are deplorable, I wouldn't...
Read moreThis Kay's jewlers is absolutely terriable! They are very racist and rude. They never greeted me. I walked in with a smile on my face. I stood in line patiently waiting because my boyfriend bought a nose ring for me and it had to be sent out to get twisted. Once I was finally helped after I stood there and listened to there conversation about lunch and what they made for diner. I showed the lady the receipt she was very rude saying they sent nothing out if they did it would be a yellow receipt. It was also in my boyfriend's name. So he had givin me the wrong receipt. We went to pick it up today and the lady told my boyfriend I was up there trying to get it she acted like I was trying to do something wrong or behind his back. They are so rude mad because I am a white female with a black man and the employees are black. The whole situation was unprofessional and rude WE WILL NEVER BE BACK!! I would give negative...
Read moreIn July I paid A LOT of money to replace a diamond in my ring, tighten the stones and size the band. Took till mid August to get back. September 9th, a DIFFERENT diamond fell out, mind you I paid for tightening. Steelyard is rude and insists their jewelry is not strong enough to sleep in or live while wearing. So first I went to the chat box for customer service through the website. They seemed to care, but never called me back with a resolution. First week of November I called customer service, again seemed to care, seemed genuinely upset nobody followed up. Also never followed up, said it had to be escalated to a higher customer service department. Nov 25. Still nothing. Jc Penney has a better service policy, if you are looking for economic jewelry skip these clowns. They only care about the sale not...
