HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE to pave a parking lot? Updated September 27, 2024 Although the parking lot at the recreation center has yet to be paved as other parts of the park have been paved, gates have been put up, signs about surveillance video have been put up and no parking zones have been painted on the curbs They seem to be trying to do some thing to make this a safer park for the average person to use. Now if they would just have a police officer ride through and get people to stop sitting around smoking weed and listening to loud music on the west side of the park near the beach house that would be great. Otherwise, I still enjoy the park and I’m out there three or four days a week.
It's been 3 yrs now and the east side parking lot at the Rec Center is still CLOSED! I have to go to the other side of the park to put out my chair and read and it's full of men sitting around smoking weed and listening to music! I wish the Police would drive through that side of the park daily because young black men stand outside their car door all day...in that parking lot. I believe they are dealing drugs. Most people park and enjoy the park itself, not the parking lot and it's a one-way drive thru that area, which is great if you wanna stand at your OPEN CAR DOOR and sell drive-thru crack. I'd like to sit quietly on the other side of the park not smell cigars and weed and listen to loud music! PAVE THE LOT ALREADY! People on the west side of the park just pull-up (in summer) to sit near the parking lot with their car doors open blaring music. They don't even face the water! What's that about? Spend some money and get the full park amenities up and running! Why is the Rec Center not opening again? Covid is over! I've lived here for almost 4 yrs now and it's never been open. UPDATE: August 2024, the parking lots been opened for quite some time. It still hasn’t been paved. Although other parts of the park have been paved and now they’ve put up gates and close the park at night for security reasons, the community center still isn’t open?...
Read moreI took my kids here to play at the playground in the park, but they were much more excited about being able to be by the water. The lake is actually quite full with all of the rain that we have been getting, so there were quite a few people out fishing from the shoreline. While there, we saw some mallards and some pelicans, which I had never seen there before and made for a pleasant surprise. We also saw and heard many other bird species, which my kids loved to see and talk about. The playground itself is pretty nice. The equipment seems well maintained and in good working order. There was also a variety of age appropriate playground equipment, so little kids and bigger kids all had an opportunity to play at the playground. The ground in the playground area is made of some kind of squishy foam or some kind of pliant material that was great for when kids would trip and/or fall. Around the playground, there were little picnic tables to sit and have a bite to eat or just relax. There are also quite a few bunches located around the playground area. If you go for a walk around the lake, there are exercise areas for what you can do to workout there and what it works out, which is neat. There are also benches located around the lake, so you can sit and take a break, or just relax and enjoy the view. Even better is the bench swings that they have around the lake, so you can swing and enjoy the view. The only thing negative I would have to add about Memorial Park is that because of the area it is located, I would not recommend hanging out here after dark. Even after an event, such as the fireworks or the balloons (Balloon Glo) ends, I would clear out with the rest of the crowd. A friend and I were stalked halfway through the park by some random guy who just really wanted our phone numbers... not cool. Seeing the balloons so close is an amazing experience, though, and something everyone should take the...
Read moreMy spouse and I have lived in Colorado Springs for many, many years. Memorial Park/Prospect Lake has always been one of our very favorite places to visit. We loved the lake, the grass, the trees, the parking, the two children' s playgrounds, the benches, the picnic tables, the wild geese, and pretty much everything. They have tennis courts, softball fields, volley pits, an ice skating building and other sports areas. However, probably because of rampant vandalism, they've taken out two buildings that housed bathrooms. In their place they've put in portable toilets that super, super reek of the stench of visible urine and fecal material WTH filthy toilet seats which are not cleaned often enough. Also, in plain sight, there are constantly the same people that are constantly dealing drugs with their very very loud obnoxious music. They pretend to play dominoes but it's obvious what they're doing. Although they don't directly bother people, it's not comfortable nor pleasant to walk near them in plain sight. There's animal poop all over the place and there is dog and geese fecal matter all over the place including all over the sidewalks. There are many regular homeless people and many seem to claim some of the park picnic tables as their own property or domain. Sadly, the city seems to have lost much of their interest in this South Central Memorial Park. Their interest is more in maintaining the many newer and more modern parks in the north east side of town. It seems as if they only really groom up the park for the Hot Air Balloon Festival and the 4th of July Independence Day fireworks. The rest of the time they do very minimal upkeep and...
