Icing on the Cake — Restaurant in Colorado Springs

My FIRST REVIEW (MARCH): I would’ve posted a picture if I could’ve. I ordered a cake and cupcakes from here & the cake was beautiful (a heart shaped care bear cake) for my daughter’s 11th birthday. The cake & cupcakes were very moist & delicious. This was my first time ordering, but I have had friends and family order from here… it’s the reason I went.

MY SECOND & most RECENT REVIEW (MAY): DON’T order a cake early, don’t pay the full amount before getting the cake, just pay your deposit. I paid for my daughter’s cake & cupcakes in full, before getting the cake. The cake decorator I spoke to had me pay extra for to freestyle decorations & add a lil razzle dazzle to my daughter’s cake. When I got there to pick up the cake. They couldn’t find my daughter’s cake. They lost the invoice. Then found the cake… it wasn’t the heart shaped cake I ordered, nor did it have the colors I asked for & it was plain. It was a round plain lavender & white cake. Didn’t even match the cupcakes. They said it would take 15-20 minutes & they would make the cake I ordered w/ the colors I ordered (heart shaped… purple & black w/ gold sprinkles). It literally took 40-55 minutes. I guess b/c the busy time of the year. But I wasn’t satisfied with the way my daughter’s cake looked for the price I paid. I paid an extra $20 for gold sprinkles & didn’t get that. The cake was really plain & ugly. I didn’t want to wait any longer. I didn’t want to seem like an angry black woman, in front of the other customers (who were doing cake testing)… I also wanted my daughter to have a cake for her birthday. So I took the cake & left. But I wasn’t happy. The lady at the front desk asked me to sign a paper saying they fixed the problem & that I was satisfied. I told her I wasn’t satisfied & I didn’t believe the problem was fixed, so I wasn’t signing the paper. They could’ve given me a coupon, something off of the cake , a free cookie or cupcake or something. I will never order anything from here ever again. To make matters worse. My daughter’s birthday was on the 26. They are closed on Sundays, so we had to pick the cake up on Saturday. They didn’t give me any instructions on how to keep the cake. We refrigerated the cake & when we took it out the refrigerator the whole left side of the cake came off. We refrigerated it, so it wouldn’t melt.

I have to edit my review. My daughter wanted a heart shaped cake & we couldn’t find anyone to make her a heart shaped cake in a timely manner. She ordered a black red velvet heart cake from here. I didn’t like the hand writing & we did spray a little spray glitter on the cake b/c it was plain, but it was delicious & it stayed together & didn’t fall apart. Idk why my previous cake fell apart, maybe it was the temperature or something, but this cake didn’t fall apart & was delicious. With that being said… I ordered another cake from them in March of this year. I knew I wanted a spa themed cake, but didn’t know how I wanted it decorated. I ordered an oreo cheesecake for my upcoming wedding in early May three weeks prior. The female employee with whom I dealt with told me that I could pay for it now at the time of placing an order or at the time of pickup. I told her that I would pay for it at the time of pickup, the day before my wedding. She filled out paperwork for my order and put it in a 3 ring binder for orders. The day of pickup , my husband-to be & I came into the bakery at 11am to pick up our order & pay for it. A different female employee couldn't find it anywhere. Then, an asian female employee came up to the front to deal with us. She didn't introduce herself & started immediately blaming me for their messup in not having my cheesecake ready. She told me that it was their policy to have all orders prepaid or a deposit put down in advance. I told her that the employee with whom had taken my order did not inform me of such policy. This employee continued repeating 3-4 more times this was their policy & accusing me for not being a mindreader in knowing this. She pulled out the order paperwork from the 3 ring binder & rudely asked if we still wanted our cheesecske made that same day if they 'got around to it' & could pickup it up at 3:30pm. We said yes. The Asian female employee said that she had other cakes to make, indicating to me that we were a by thought. She said that we had to pay right now if we wanted our cheesecake. We paid. Looking back in hindsight, we should've said we'll pass & gotten a dessert from Walmart. We were not offered a discount either. My husband-to be & I agreed that if our cheesecake wasn't ready, plan b would pick up a dessert from Walmart. When we picked it up, another female employee gave us our cheesecake. It was beautiful. I told her that it would beneficial to have a sign stating this policy at the front so all customers know this in advance. We won't be going back to...

May 2025: I ordered another delicious cake from this bakery, and it was wonderful. I would definitely buy another cake there again...but, I would choose the most boring and easiest pattern with lots of frosting possible. The cake I reviewed in March = 10" cake $125: $90 base price with $35 design fee. The cake I received this time = 6" cake $100: $60 base price with $40 design fee. Had I ordered another 10" cake with this design it would have been $160: $90 base price with $70 design fee. Decide for yourself was it worth the difference for the design? Loved the cake and it disappeared quite quickly, there is something to give you an idea of the size. Thank you for fitting me in, next time I will get some input on a cheaper design. It was just as good as the last cake, just harder to get as excited with that much less cake and that much for dough.

March 2025: I ordered the most beautiful cake from this bakery, and it tastes even better than it looks! The design of the cake was followed down to the smallest detail from my photo and they even added little extras. The cake is super moist, with 3 layers of raspberry filling and the icing is just out of this world. It just melts in your mouth, not too heavy, just perfect. I can't think of anything that would have made this a better experience. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful and really went the extra mile to make sure everything was as I wanted it, and they did perfectly. Thank you so much for such an amazing cake for an 81st birthday and for the best mom! So thrilled that you are the bakery you are🩷💛!
