This is not your grandparentsā library. Thomas Cooper Library is not only a beautiful building, it is a great place to study and research. There are plenty of Macs and PCs on levels 4-6 for use and printers can be found on those floors as well. The quiet floors are levels 1-3 and sometimes the other students are not quiet, but if you send a noise complaint to the library staff, they will take care of it. There are individual study carrels, group study rooms, classrooms and lots of seating. Interlibrary Loan is helpful and fast in locating items the library itself does not have. Having both the Career Center and Student Success Center locates in the library is an asset as well. You can get tutoring, find the resources you need for a class, and get help updating your resume and finding a job all in one place!
The staff is knowledgeable and will help you find what you need or direct you to someone who can if they are unable to. If you happen to need a little boost during your research or study time, there is a Starbucks on the main floor ready to serve your favorite latte. Due to their popularity and central location, sometimes they run out of items but the Starbucks staff is able to recommend a replacement which will work. If you have an interest in special exhibits, the Hollings Library has a great rotation of interesting exhibits throughout the year. āJustice for Allā is the current one and is an absolutely fabulous and interesting look at the (continuing) fight for civil rights. Both the hours posted on the tv and on a google search show the Starbucks as being open until 8pm on a Saturday. I tried to order a coffee today at 4.45pm and I was waiting for the guy in front of me to finish his order and the lady at the register barked out to me that they closed at 4pm. Something needs to be changed. Either post the hours in more places or donāt close 4...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThomas Cooper is a bit outdated. It's lined with tons of books that take up study space. The computers are old (they run windows 7) and the iMacs there are so old they still have spinning hard drives.
The library needs to clear out the books to put more study space in (which there isn't enough of) and needs to add more computers and update their existing ones. The iMacs haven't changed since before I was a freshman in 2010! 6 years for a computer is borderline ancient.
You have the space, you just need a bit...
