We purchased over $5,000 of lights for our main floor and one of the ceiling fans we ordered was to have a light. The electrician hung everything and left with all the boxes for us. We noticed the bed room fan did not have a light. We asked the electrician and he told us after he hung it he thought maybe a light kit was coming or something in a different box. We called Capital Lighting to ask where the light kit was and we were informed they ordered the wrong fan and would have to get us the correct one. That would be another $250 to the electrician to take this one down and hang the correct fan. They made it right with a credit; however, after waiting two weeks for the new fan to come in and when I went to pick it up the new product the Floor Manager “Larry” treated me like a thief. She asked me where the fan was I was returning so I could take the new fan. I explained it’s was still hanging in the house, so the electrician would take down the wrong one and replace with the new one. Then we would bring it back to the store as agreed upon with our sales lady “Valerie”. She was asking me when that was going to happen and I told her the electrician would not schedule until we had the new light and should be in the next two weeks. She told me three times that she needed the old fan back to let new merchandise leave the store. I was so frustrated as none of this was our fault and now I’m treated like I’m going to keep a fan I didn’t order in the first place. Let me remind you we have spent over $5,000 dollars with them and she is badgering me over a $700 fan that was their mistake. I told her to just charge my card for the fan as I wanted to leave being treated like a thief trying to steal from them. All in front of the sales woman, the e man waiting to load it all and his child. She then tried back pedaling that it was ok. It isn’t ok to treat customers this way. We will not be doing our outside or upstairs lighting order from them and recommend you find a store with better customer service coming from management. The guy taking my products to my car outside agreed with me and was embarrassed that I was treated like that per his own words. Do better to the owners of the store with whom you let in charge and hire. Oder was wrong and then you treat your customers like a thief. Columbus had other lighting stores and we recommend people choose one...

If you are building and the builder tells you to work with Capital Lighting, find another lighting vendor.
We were building with Romanelli and Hughes. Worked with Sheila to get our lighting order in August. We were told they would work with us on planing and we had very little interaction and had a hard time getting them to call us back. We specifically wanted to make sure that lights we ordered were in stock. I was assured by Sheila after a few weeks of not being able get a hold of her that they were all in stock and we would have everything in October.
When many of the lights arrived, we noticed several on back order. We tried calling Sheila and as of December 20th we still do not have 2 lights. Plus we are missing bulbs and have some glass fixtures missing that have been promised. We have also NEVER received a call back from Sheila after leaving at least 8 voice mails. If you are lucky, she may answer the phone and tell you everything is coming soon and on it’s way, but it is December and we are still missing several items that we ordered as well as one broken fixture that is on back order.
Long story short, find somewhere else to buy your lighting and if forced to go through capital, do not trust any information...
Read moreI think the reviews for Capital Lighting are skewed lower because there is a bit of square peg going into a round hole situation. I have gotten lights from them via building with R&H (a few houses ago) and then via designer. I also get some stuff direct from the manufacturer or online store. I am an individual but I often get higher priced lights.
Lighting fixtures in my opinion are various levels of horrible. You can spend $800 (mid-range I guess) on a light and it will still have missing parts. I accept this as just how lighting works. I will say Kichler was amazing; but still the build quality for price still left me only happy comparing it to a lower end model and it being relatively much nicer.
My interactions with Capital Lighting directly (after working with an external designer) were great. They tried to get me the extra part; that failed so we ordered the light again. Yep this has taken 6 weeks; but my expectations for lighting are low; and Capital Lighting cannot make the stuff come in faster. And if I had done this online; I would be dealing with a shipping mess.
So 4 stars feels right. I am not even sure a lighting store can be 5 stars; so on the relative scale maybe Capital is 5 stars. :-) But 3.5...
