I lived at Central Park for 3.5 years and this is a list of things I would like to know if I was considering moving there.
In many of the apartments, every window comes with a smaller, transom window on top of the standard window. It lets in natural light without forcing you to open your blinds, but there’s no provided way to block them, so light always comes in. If you like to sleep in past dawn and are light sensitive, this will drive you batty. I ended up tacking towels over the ones in my bedroom and, if you keep an eye out as you walk around the community, you’ll see that this is not an uncommon solution.
The trash service sucks. At least once a month, they’ll miss your trash. When you complain, they’ll insinuate it’s because you didn’t put it out before 8pm. We had at least one incident of an animal getting into trash that should have been taken. If they don’t take the trash, people often don’t bring it back in, so you can wind up with piles of trash outside your door. To make all that worse, the services is $17 a month and you cannot decline it. They implemented it after I’d moved in, so I got an unexpected rent hike.
Beware of mold. The air conditioner broke in the unit above me and mold grew on the ceiling. They fixed the issue with the air conditioner right away, but it took two more tickets to get the mold removed and painted over. The spores from that mold lead to mold on all of my windows soon after. I put in a ticket the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and they didn’t come until the Monday afterwards. That day, I called and specifically asked when they’d be there since I had the day off and wanted to be there. They couldn’t give me a time and it was already 1pm, so I ran out for about an hour and a half. They treated it in that time, but only ONE of the five windows. I created another ticket that day and they came back Wednesday to treat the remaining four windows. Even then, they left mold so I gave up and bleached everything. This is all in spite of the fact that mold is an issue you can specifically chose in the maintenance application.
You can see directly into your neighbor’s apartment when both places have their window blinds open. This is only true if you are in an apartment that looks at another one.
They added a $25 fee to the clubhouse, removing a free amenity. That room is part of why I chose central park. The exercise room, TV room, and pool are still free.
The layout of the Cosmopolitan wastes a ton of space. It’s got the best kitchen, but the bedroom is smaller than every other one-bedroom unit and the living room is a nightmare. If I could do it again, I’d save the money, sacrifice the kitchen, and go with one of the smaller units.
During move out, I went to the office to take advantage of things specifically listed on the letter I signed (an optional walkthrough) and they refused. The woman in the office even stated that she’d never read the letter before! When they returned my deposit, they did not list why they took out money. It was a small amount, so I didn’t fight it, but the whole experience was unprofessional.
Some things I liked:
The grounds are kept in excellent shape
Free movie rentals in the clubhouse.
The location is great with food and entertainment within walking distance and two Kroger’s within a 10 minute drive
There’s lots of parking.
They do monthly community events. Nothing amazing, but if you like to meet your neighbors, it’s a nice way to do that.
Central park is active about dealing with dog poop issues
On the dog note, be aware that Central Park is next to a large field between Central Park and some office buildings. Central Park does not own this field, so people let their dogs off the leash and also let their dogs poop there, sometimes without cleaning it up. If you go through this field when you’re walking to food or the movies, keep your eyes open so you don’t get something messy on your shoe. I strongly suggest avoiding the field...
Read moreI don't know what's going on with the sudden recent reviews but I've lived here 3 years and absolutely LOVE it here! Office staff is great (Jessica Grau is super cool & laid back, in my experience - unlike what the other reviewer said.) Maintenance is prompt & responsive according to your schedule & my apartment is ridiculously quiet!! There's a good age mix here as far as residents go & most people I know here have also been here long term & just transfer from one apartment to the other if they ever want to move. There's lots of resident events & food trucks & the pool is a nice place to socialize as well as the "dog park" area. The gym is great, the clubhouse is great - everything I need is here. It's close to everything...Be aware the area does get congested weekdays between 4 & 6:30 ish due to nearby offices and trying to turn R out of the one office lot that's a shortcut to Campus View around that time is a real pain in the butt. Sometimes there's a police officer there to direct traffic but sometimes there isn't & most people anymore sadly don't have the brains or common sense to not block driveways or intersections (EVEN THOUGH IT IS ILLEGAL,) so trying to go anywhere from the complex at that time is usually difficult. Other than that, if you can work around that time when you know traffic will be messy, the location is well worth it. And you can't beat that Marcus cinema is within walking distance, as well as Chipotle, Sushiko, Starbucks & HC Way. My apartment is quite spacious & I also have a garage and have never had any problems with mine. Some of the apartments have balconies, some don't. Some face courtyards, some face the street...there's lots of options here. It was originally built as an Edwards property so the quality is fantastic. Everyone I know loves it here & though it may be a little on the higher side money - wise, it's worth it. I've always looked all over Columbus & know practically all the apartments and this one meets all my requirements - which has never happened anywhere else I've lived. 1) It's safe 2) It's quiet 3) There's social activities for the residents 4) The apartments are spacious with lots of windows 5) There's good views 6) Garages & lastly -...
Read moreI moved in here 14 months ago and absolutely loved the place. You can scroll down and even read my initial 5 star review! The complex was great, the staff was great. It was a no-brainer when a year later they asked me to resign my lease. I added 15 more months and called it a day.
Boy was that a bad decision.
For some unknown reason, without expressing it to the residents, they completely changed management about a week after I resigned the lease. The office staff was great, Chelsea was honestly phenomenal, but then all of a sudden none of them were there anymore.
The new office staff is a joke. They are very rude, and clearly do not care about their residents. I can't afford to pay 5000 to break my contract, so I'm stuck here for another 13 months, but I will definitely not be resigning if this continues.
I had to resend my lease that I already signed with them, because they lost it. Mail has been getting worse around here. People play music so loud that the walls shake, and management doesn't do anything about it, even when it has been reported several times. I work pretty early, and people will be blasting music until midnight or 1 in the morning. If you enjoy sleeping before midnight, I wouldn't recommend this place. I wouldn't recommend this place at all, really.
I don't know why the owners decided to fire the entire front office, and replace them with people who obviously do not want to be here, at the very least, I wish they would have told us. The reason I signed here in the first place was because I liked the staff so much. You can very clearly see this shift of management when looking through these reviews. It was five stars for a while - all mentioning Chelsea - and now they're all one star reviews mentioning this new management. I would avoid this place...
