UPDATED July 24, 2024
Sharing a great feature of the Rec Sports office that I just revisited after 5 years, InBody Assessment, and the Exercise Program Design (new to me, but very valuable)
This feature offered by Rec Sports was a 5-year update for me as I did one in July of 2019. Takes less than a minutes and gives great results for baseline / improvement comparison or just planning. I had lost weight (35 lbs) in the interval so was interested in comparing.....
This time I added Exercise Program Design, and met with one of the Certified Personal Trainers (L. Geiger) who found my previous InBody Assessment report and gave excellent advice on interpretation (% versus amount) as well as comparison to my 2019 report –
Also, sketched out broad parameters of an exercise program to get my reactions & input (i.e., stretching) so I felt more like a partner in health than a client receiving instruction from an expert --
Excellent skill in interacting with me (OSU retiree), so a great fit for any EPD participants
13-page report was thorough and chock-full of advice, priming stretches, weight considerations, etc.

As an OSU retiree who walks around campus and works out daily at ARC (mostly) or RPAC (occasionally), I wanted to commend a Rec Sports staff member (Collette) who assisted me in straightening out my annual membership payment & dates. Also, I greatly enjoy the capable and welcoming student workers and other staff at the ARC workout facility -- they are great at customer service and they work hard to keep the...
Read moreDo not pay for personal training. I purchased personal training a while ago. I had a hard time getting a personal trainer, and when I did it was difficult to get in contact. I spent $175 which was supposed to be $35 for 5 60 minute sessions. I only had 2 sessions. My trainer wasn't getting in contact with me, so I had gone in and talked with the guy who said he was the head of the department. After I told him I was supposed to be trained by Cali Saturn, he told me she would be in contact soon. I had 2 sessions with her before the spring semester ended. I figured she was going back home for the summer because in our last text conversation she told me she was going to send me some information of leg exercises, etc. Because she wasn't going to be there to help me. Well, she never sent them. And i have heard nothing from anyone in the personal training department. No one at the RPAC has reached out to me despite that being quite a bit of money for a college student. This is showing me how completely disorganized they are. They aren't reaching out to people who have paid them so much money, they don't even know what is going on in most of these sessions. It's aggravating, and I have requested a refund. I don't want to deal with a company that will not give people the product. Just getting the personal trainer in the beginning was a hassle because the contact was so sporadic. Never get personal training with OSU. It is students who don't fully understand what they are doing, and they do not care about actually providing you with your...
Read moreThe Ohio State University has done a great job at making this a great facility for students and faculty alike! As a student, I personally love coming to this gym, but couldn’t help but have some thoughts when it comes to the facility’s accessibility when it comes to those with disabilities. For the most part, the facility has done a great job at providing automatic door openers, ramps, and elevators to be able to get around the facility easily. At the gate to get further into the facility there is even a gate that would be accessible to someone that uses a wheel chair or another tool that would help them to get around. What I think the University could do better at making it more known the other resources and accommodations that are available. It wasn’t until I went up to the front desk and ask one of the employees what was available, that I was able to learn how one with disabilities can be supported. After this I learned about the awesome assistance that one is able to receive when at the facility, especially with the equipment. There is even special equipment that one is able to use if there have something such as a visual impairment. While all these resources are awesome, OSU states that in order for someone to be able to use these resources they much contact OSU two weeks in advance. I think that this could be improved, and these resources should always be available. I think this prevents someone who might have a disability from being able to decided to go to this facility whenever, and not be tied down to a...
