After visiting the town and family for memorial day my family and I stopped in to check out the store, since where we are from does not have an Academy sports. After shopping around and finding some good deals but not getting any kind of acknowledgement I did walk past one employee and said hi. She did have a name tag. Her name was Lisa, she was about 45-50 years old. After walking past I noticed her walking past me a couple times and talking of her talkie. I figured she was watching me because I am a person of color with tattoos. After making my way around back to where my family was I noticed three more employees plus Lisa walking around and still not offering and assistance. I then started to look around at other people shopping and I noticed I was not the only person with a lot of tattoos but I did notice we were the only ones that the employees were watching. That's when I realized it wasn't because of the tattoos it was because of the race of my family and myself that we're were getting watched. There was another family that was white and they had tattoos too. After feeling uncomfortable from being watched like we were shoplifters we made purchases of the few items we found. If we didn't fell like we were not welcome there we would have spent more money at this store. With the issue we had shopping at this store for the first time, we won't be back. We do not want to be treated like we are thieves and be watched the whole...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI live in Terre Haute and would prefer to do business locally but I am done with Academy. My most recent visit..... I'm an avid canoer and was looking for new canoe seat and propane bottles for my upcoming trip. I found everything quickly. I noticed the chair I had chosen didn't have a bar code. Neither did the other ones. I noted the price and proceeded to check out.
Upon arriving up front 5-6 Academy Sports employees were at the customer service station chatting it up. Including what looked to be a male supervisor. My cashier was pleasant but was not able to ring up my chair. When she asked for help the crowd of employees disbursed and no one seemed to want to help. I was standing around wondering if I was going to be allowed to buy the chair and the poor cashier was left helpless. Eventually someone shouted out what color is it and hold it up. The male supervisor looked over and said "ok" and leisurely walked the opposite way of us and where the chair was located. After a few minutes he came walking back without answers and asked if there was a tag on it. Really? I walked out and won't be back.
I really miss Gander Mountain but since they closed I guess I will just order my outdoor supplies through my Amazon Prime account. Good Luck!
P.S. I still feel bad for the Cashier. She was nice, apologetic but unfortunately had no...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI purchased a bench press from Academy Sports in Terre Haute today. I went home to assemble everything in the box and it was missing pieces so I called the store and asked what steps we should take and the only suggestion numb nuts on the phone had was ābring it back for a refundā and he also said āit will probably be hard to order you a new oneā wth does that even mean? How can you not order me a new one? I explained how I live an hour away so Iām sure you can see how Iām not really eager to invest 4hrs of my life into this. Which you could argue thatās not their problem I live so far away. Although I could have went to my local Dickās Sporting Goods but instead I drove the distance because I like(d) Academy. Anyways I was offered 0 compensation from a store selling me a junk item. Not impressed at all with how this was handled and I will be spending my money at another sporting goods store šš».
