I was completely shocked to learn my partner was stopped and accused of not paying for the items he had JUST purchased at self check out to in order to make me a birthday dinner. He was shopping with our 8 month old son and had been using the stroller as a cart. The shocking part about him calling to tell me he was stopped and accused was that I literally do the same exact thing multiple times a week when shopping for dinner and have never had this done before which comes off as profiling in my view. He had also been contemplating whether to bug me sunflowers to surprise me with after making his purchase and was also approached then by an employee who suggested he pay for the flowers right there at customer service, but when he attempted to communicate to the employee that he was still thinking about the purchase, she took the flowers from him without allowing him the chance to consider. I often contemplate my decision to make a purchase and am never questioned, items havenât been taken from me, and assumptions about when/where I can make my purchase donât often happen. The difference in treatment is unacceptable! My partner she be able to enjoy the same treatment when shopping with our son and if there is ever a time anyone should ever be directly accused of not making a purchase, there needs to be clear evidence and that evidence needs to be communicated. No clear evidence was found because he doesnât steal and is adamant about passing honest values on to our son. The officer had no reason for approaching my partner and wasnât able to communicate any sound reasoning for having stopped him. As usual im fumbling and trying to figure out whatâs for dinner for my family. I have my son in a stroller which i was using as a shopping cart as well. Only placing 8 items in the bottom carriage of the stroller. I went to self check out and payed for all my items. I stopped at the flower stand and contemplated buying my partner some sun flowers for her birthday. A Giant employee approached me and stated i could purchase the flowers at the self check out. I replied that i wasnât sure if I would be buying them just yet. The employee took the flowers out my hand and placed them back on the shelf. I was a little taken back because i wasnât done with the flowers. I chalked it and decided to just keep it moving. As i approach the exit i am approached by a security off. Who asks me âdid i pay for all my items in my cart?â Then demands to see my receipt. I was extremely offended especially because i have never seen then stop anyone and ask to inspect their cart and see receipt. So my question was if you didnât see me stealing, what made you stop me? The officer couldnât give me a reason. After speaking with a supervisor of the store i found that the officers name is J. Crutchfield and he works for Myles & Davis Protection.
