My mother has several health issues. This is the closest hospital to her house, so when she is having chest pain due to having a heart attack or very low blood count or any other health issue which requires immediate medical attention this is her go to hospital. The ambulance will only drive her to this hospital since it's the closest. The ER has always been a great experience for her. The staff, nurses, doctors have always been very attentive, kind and knowledgeable. She has had bad experiences during her hospital stay on the 5th floor in the West Tower. She was having a heart attack and when she told her nurse she was having chest pains and it felt like a heart attack, he told her " Well we cant do anything until we have doctors orders"... so my mother called the ER and they transferred her call to this same charge nurse on the 5th floor who was not doing anything to help her. NOTHING WAS BEING DONE ABOUT MY MOTHER HAVING A HEART ATTACK!!! Thank God she had her own NITRO SPRAY in her tote bag (in the little closet) which she used immediately since no one was helping. The charge nurse told her she cannot use her own Nitro Spray and she said that she IS going to use it anyway because she needs it!!!! The following morning her cardiologist said that she will need to have a procedure done immediately so that very morning a stent was placed due to a blocked coronary artery. My mother has had bad care by nurses on the 4th floor in the East tower also. They just don't care!!! They seem to become easily frustrated, They ignore her. They don't do what they are suppose to do unless a family member goes over there and tells them what she needs. They are lazy! they sit around chatting and gossiping (even the charge nurse at night time) most likely gossiping about family members who complain about these lazy and rude nurses. They like to whisper and gossip when a complaining family member walks past them( which has been my experience on the 4th floor East Tower). Instead of calling doctors to get orders for patients or getting necessary medicine for patients instead they are sitting around chatting/ gossiping. IF YOU HAVE A LOVED ONE AT THIS HOSPITAL WHO IS NOT GETTING PROPER PATIENT CARE SPEAK UP FOR THEM. COMPLAIN TO THE HEAD OF PATIENT ADVOCATE THERE ...YOU CAN CALL DIRECTLY FROM YOUR HOSPITAL ROOM. I have had to do that for my mother. I can no longer sit back while the bad doctors and nurses have their bad, negative, neglecting ways. Yes, issues with a doctor at this hospital also. She was the doctor on call and since my mother had a very low blood count this gastroenterologist wanted to do a Hemorrhoidectomy on my mother... we told her NO too risky. plus my mother does not need that kind of surgery she just needs to get off her blood thinners for a while which she was taking two different types. Well this doctor ignored the family's wishes and early the next few mornings later my mother called frantically saying the nurse was going to take her downstairs to prepare her for surgery and when she called to order her breakfast the lady from the cafeteria told her she could not order anything because she was going in for surgery so she cannot eat anything. I had to rush over there and stop everything and complained to the head of patient advocate as well as reprimand the doctor. PLEASE BEWARE! JUST BECAUSE THIS IS A HOSPITAL DOES NOT MEAN YOUR GOING TO GET GOOD CARE. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS, LOOK OUT FOR YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS, TAKE YOUR OWN MEDICINES IF THEY COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE BECAUSE A LOT OF THESE NURSES ARE TOO LAZY TO DO THEIR JOB AND CALL A DOCTOR to get orders IF NEEDED AND PLEASE COMPLAIN TO NOT ONLY CHARGE NURSES AND MANAGEMENT but TO THE HEAD OF PATIENT ADVOCATE BECAUSE THESE NURSES TAKE UP FOR EACH OTHER...IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THEY ARE IN THE WRONG THEY COVER FOR EACH OTHER. I can say out of my mothers several hospital stays on the 4th and 5th floors she did have a handful of GOOD nurses: Teresa, Mohammad, Christopher and Rolando. They were...
Read moreI have something I really need to share with everyone, after what we experienced with my mom over the weekend. So, I get home Friday and my mom is slurring and very confused. I call the ambulance and they ask what hospital we want to take her too. Of course, I am sure most people say Memorial Hermann as they are well known for cardiac care and Dr. Red Duke and all the wonderful things you hear!!!! Well, we had a VERY different experience.... We get to Memorial Hermann and my mom had been in there for about an hour, before a Dr even started working on her, we had a nurse come in about 30 minutes later and she could not speak good English and we were scared and wanted answers. 3 hours into our visit....we still have NO answers and the Dr is no where to be found, still has not seen or spoken to us about the MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound or anything she had done. As mom is still in severe pain with a 10 being her worst pain - the nurse finally 4 hours later comes in with Tylenol and we still have NO ANSWERS. By this time I had talked to the 3rd DEI nurse and 2 charge nurses (Yes, I said it DEI Nurse, when they cannot do their job, they do not speak English and cannot give you any accurate information or help your mother in any way and is standing around on their phones more than they are in rooms helping patients- that is DEI) I used to be a trauma nurse myself and have NEVER seen a hospital run so poorly. As I told the nurse, I was about to remove my mothers IV and discharge her myself and take her to another hospital.....The Dr came running in, because she was worried about losing money, not the patient....finally came in yelling that she was the only Dr per 45 patients and she had 3 other stroke victims and she was doing the best she could. She also stated it would take 48 to 72 hours to get her the help she really needed, since they were so understaffed, then because we questioned why she would not come in and talk to us and we were stuck with nurses who did not know what they were doing, the Dr called us racist. (Dennis and myself are anything but racist, we love everyone and just want an accurate job done when my moms life is on the line). We realized how severely understaffed Memorial Hermann is and more worried about DEI, than a critical patient. Dennis A Oquendo and myself then prayed very hard for answers and decided she needed better care. I called Methodist Katy and told them the scenario we were dealing with. Dennis and I got her into the truck, took her to Methodist and within 5 minutes, she had 2 Dr's, a team of neurologist, she was taken back and given pain meds, blood pressure meds, seizure meds for precaution, they ran all her test and had them back in an hour, everything was STAT. They had her upstairs in an hour and a full team of nurses watching her, hooked up to IV, meds being pumped in and I was told by the Methodist Neurologist, had we stayed at Memorial Hermann and waited that some of the slurring and confusion would have been hard to reverse! So, I tell EVERYONE THIS....if you love your family members or friends, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO MEMORIAL HERMANN KATY!!!!! They are understaffed and woke! Sad, but so true! Sorry, but it was like night and day - My mom had the best and utmost care by every race you could think of at Methodist and we appreciated every single one of them for their knowledge, professionalism, quick responses and making sure they communicated everything that was going on and did it in such a prompt time, they saved my mom from having more severe issues from the stroke, had they not acted as prompt as they did! DO yourself a favor and go...
Read moreHonestly , Very disappointed.. not so much on the Care( Nurses , Docs , & The Techs ) but on the Quality of the Facility & the Secruity.
I have been coming to MHH for over 30years & All my Doctors are Affiliated with MHH and this is the FIRST- experiencing ( hope LAST ) & visually seeing with my two eyes -the messy , disorderly, un sanitary , un-inviting waiting room , & the INVISIBLE SECURITY ?
If my PCP didnât request I go to the hospital then I wouldnât have had to experience this S#%% Show !
As I sign in , the waiting room is Packed , hot , no room to sit & the 2 âs TV - one is just running MHH advertisement & the other TV was turned Off.. ( WHAT - no regular TV on the Tube ?? ~ guess those were the good ole days ! ).
Are yâall assuming , in todayâs world everyone will just use their hand held cell phone device , Ipads , Androids or Laptops ! ( Ummm đ¤ maybe Im too old school !!) 100% truth to that BUt sometimes its nice to see the Good ole days are still remembered , cherished , honored & appreciated!
So, My First disturbing , concern was the cleanliness, the ZERO Covid protocols, the non existent disinfectant & the trash displayed thru out the entire complex ( inside & Outside) . Thorn on the grounds were Used ,torn up gloves , unwanted cloth masks , used up whetted -up paper towels , and cigarette butts , not to mention the overflowing trash cans & the disorderly , unsanitary, filthy & unacceptable waiting room & bathrooms !!??
Second , there over abundance of Children ( ranging from infant to 10yrs old & NO pediatric doctors in the evening ONLY during the Day !???!!! I would NOT suggest bringing your babies here at night - NO Not a KID , friendly environment! Come on Memorial Herman Hospital Yâall are suppose to be the # 1 or # 2 Healthcare Facility in Texas or Houston IDK ???
Next disturbing concern was the Security Officer- đ¤ behind the Front check in / reception area hiding behind the Plexiglass, Really??? ? I understand these days a security officer in the Front but smart to have one in the Front but but what happened to the good oleâ days where yâall had the security officer right next to the vending machines? He / She were so helpful , friendly , caring ,informative , AVAILABLE & APPROACHABLE ! You felt SAFE ! Now its the INVISIBLE security officer , who is BORED , un- engaging , non resourceful , not a care n the world & looks disgruntled?? Wow - Did I fill Safe - NOT! Todayâs world , Mental illness is on the RISE and where is the SAFETY??
Finally, the NON working Vending Machines .. NO Water, sugar drinks , Gatorade , or snacks ?? What & the WAIT time is going on 14 hours for MANY ! Houston Memorial Herman Hospital- YOU have a problem!
Annnddddd if you LEAVE to grab something to eat & drink , there is a 100% guarantee you will miss your name being called & then NO treatment!
Maybee , just maybeeee provide small H20 bottles ( limit 2 to a patient or something ) & some simple , inexpensive snack-size snacks .. As much money as we (the Patient ) spend on Healthcare a month , Canât Yaâll provide simple , essential items for your patients ??
Last note - the Doctorâs quick In & Out Visit - was so impersonal!
Regardless of the Triage level of Treatment , everyone deserves to be treated with the same respect & time!! At the end if the day , who is paying for your lavishly, Expensive lifestyle, Me ( the patient)?????
If you got this far , thank u for listening, and pray for immediate attention & actions !!!!
Stay healthy & Be...
