DO NOT COME HERE. And honestly, this branch of this franchise needs to be shut down. They are using ketchup instead of katsu sauce. It was terrible. When I pointed this out to our waitress, who was very sweet, she brought over her condescending and rude manager. The manager tried to “explain” to us that katsu is actually just “ketchup sauce”. She also insisted the menu said this until I made her show me where on the menu, which clearly said KATSU SAUCE.
I pulled out my phone and showed her photos of what katsu sauce looks like, it is a brown sauce that’s tangy and sweet - it’s based on worchester sauce.
My husband and I ordered chicken katsu, and the POINT of the dish is it be served with KATSU SAUCE!! It had ketchup instead!!! The manager did send the dishes back and we opted to have them covered with spicy mayonnaise instead. It was just not good.
I was so disappointed. I brought my parents here to show them a Bon Chon because I loved the one in downtown Houston, I was so embarrassed. This one was a complete mess. The ketchup as katsu sauce is not the only issue. The only “upside” is the restaraunt comped one chicken katsu for the trouble.
The manager claimed that this Bon Chon was actually not really the same as the general chain franchise. Well, what do the franchise owners think of that? 😒 She also claimed the recipes they got from the franchise said to use ketchup 🙄. This location also uses pepsi, not coca-cola products despite what their menu says. The manager just started saying they’re update the menu to reflect the ketchup and pepsi, but from the same complaints over 4 months ago I know that was a lie 🙄. I’m not sure what the owner of this location is trying to pull - they’re obviously cutting corners - the franchise itself needs to pull their licensing because it is damaging their image and not following what their menus say. My parents never want to try another one despite the Bon Chon in downtown Houston being amazing.
Picture below is of Takoyaki covered in ketchup, I didn’t have a chance to take a photo of the...
Read moreI have eaten at other locations and had great experiences. We walked in on a Sunday and there was only one other table. We placed our order, only for the waitress to come back 10 minutes later and tell us they were out of the sauce we ordered. Ok. Not a huge deal. We ordered the second option, and proceeded to wait for an extended period of time. The table that walked in at least 20 minutes after us was already receiving their food, and being told the kitchen was out of udon. Again. Ok. Continued to wait and to our servers credit, she did apologize for the wait. Our food finally arrived. We were presented with small, overcooked clumps of batter (If you work in foodservice that has frozen boneless wings, you know the ones). Immediately I told the server we would not be eating the food they brought out. What should have been a simple solution took a half hour more of our time. They called the manager who originally offered us 50% off. Mind you, no food was eaten as it all came out looking horrible. We then had to wait for the staff to call the manager again to make sure it was ok for them to comp the food that we refused as soon as it got to the table. I asked that they charge me for the two lemonades we drank while waiting for resolution as we wanted to tip the server. This request was denied so, unfortunately the server was only able to make 4 dollars off of our visit. I was asked to leave my contact info for someone to contact us. The server was sweet, the shift lead was polite and did his best to resolve the issue. The owner needs to not only provide the staff with the tools to do the job, but the space to provide customer service without over a half hour worth of phone calls. The manager should not be leaving thier staff out of so many core items. I hope that they look into the issues and improve their service model And quality issues. I will not...
Read moreWent to enter and somehow the door was broken, and no AC? But the time I went, it was a slow hour and it was not hot inside.
I just wanted some good Korean food. And for the most part, they delivered.
Everything tasted and felt authentic, just like I remember when I was in Korea. I really enjoyed the fried chicken and the tteokbokki. The kkwabaegi, or the twisty donuts: phenomenal!
I only have one major complaint, and it is the chicken Katsu: it was very dry. I understand that chicken breast is used, and it can be hard to make a thin piece of meat a little bit juicy. But either it was pounded too hard or it was over fried. The mayonnaise on top didn’t do it justice. And the mayo salad didn’t help either.
Minor complaints include: the Lady Gaga song that was repeated about 15x before someone changed it. No paper towels in the restroom. A little pricy, but the taste made up the difference.
Thank you. I hope to buy more in the future, and I want more kkwabaegi!
Edit: 9/9/25 went for some kkwabegi (Korean donuts). The waiter spoke in broken English about what to order. I speak Spanish to ease the burden and asked for my kkwabegi. She had a very distasteful attitude, felt with her body language. Once the order was complete, she went aside to talk on her personal phone away from the register.
I get it: it’s a low time of the day, no one is really there. But friendliness is superior customer service. At the end of making my food, what does she tell me? Thank you…in English.
As a Latino, I want to support my brothers and sisters and perhaps they don’t speak English like I do. I spoke in her language to ease the tension. Whatever she’s going through, it was not professional customer service that I felt.
At least my donuts were not ruined.
One star removed from service. Gracias, señora. Los modales y la profesionalidad son calidades muy importantes...
