Adequate airport. Clean, easy to navigate, though there is no easy way to move between terminals (by design) other than exiting the secure area and reclearing TSA. Parking is adequate but expensive ($25.00/day at this writing) but there are few less expensive options besides drop off. Drawbacks are the D terminal train system and the escalator/moving walkway/elevator systems. The train system is slow, usually packed with people and uncomfortable. Walking from gate D3 to customs (more than a 1/4 mile) takes less time than the train even if only half of the moving walkways are working. The moving walkways are frequently inoperative as are the escalators and the elevators (especially in the parking garages for the elevators). Finally, if you are connecting through Miami, I'd plan on a minimum 1.5 hrs for connections (without Customs). Much more if you have Customs, need to change terminals (airlines) or weekends. Update: 7/25/2022 - mask mandates were lifted a while ago. The terminal, TSA lines and ICE areas are crowded. If you have to transit Miami as a passenger from an International flight to either a domestic US or International connection, give it 2 hours minimum...if its a holiday or weekend, much more. Update 1/17/23: Parking garages no longer accept SunPass, only credit cards. Rates have increased as well. From their website: Garage Parking Rates Each 20 minute increment $2.00 Maximum Daily Rate $25.00 Maximum rate applies after 4 hours Update 10/7/2023: Train system in Terminal D has been out of service for several weeks. If you arrive and can't walk long distances, make certain to request assistance for your arrival (wheelchair or courtesy cart). 12/7/23: D train is still out of service. 3/18/24: Train still Out of Service. At least half the moving walkways out of service. Multiple escalators out of service.
