I LOVE libraries. I LOVE this library. In my 38 years of life the staff at this location has always been the best.
But there is a 3 star rating for a purpose. The libraries of my childhood now fill an important role for helping lower income and homeless people access the internet. This has now made the library less safe for my child to visit. I don't know how to remedy the situation unless a separate children's library is formed. (The Coeur d'Alene City library has a separate wing for children which works perfectly!) Currently there are too many older scrubby men wandering around too close to the children's section, and I have heard/seen confrontations of patrons watching porn on computers within view of the children's' section. Not ok.
The last straw is that the children's' book corner is filled with toys. None of the children in the book section look at the books. (I would estimate I have seen 100+ children in this section and not yet seen one looking at the book.) Once again I think Spokane County should look to CDA, Idaho for ideas. While they have whimsical reading nooks and large painted cartoons the library is NOT filled with toys.
Please Spokane County Libraries...remove the toys and build separate children's libraries! Doubt you have the money for separate facilities. ...
Read moreSome of the rudest people my family and I have come in to contact with and Im not even saying this as a customer. Im saying this as a neighbor. They allow homeless people to pack around the front door and cause scenes on a regular basis and thats not even mentioning letting them live on the grass surrounding the building itself. While, in the meantime, they don't ask, but tell my sons friend that he is not to park in a curbside pickup spot, when where he parked was clearly not marked as such. They accuse us neighbors on this side of the street of horrible parking, when in actuality its construction workers parking wherever they want due to a construction project on Hawthorne. I have personally called to complain about their employees parking in our spots. I understand its a public street, but they have a parking lot with probably 100 spots (or close to it) and there are a select few that insist on parking where we live. Even farther for them to walk than the closest parking they have on their property or even their side of the street. They are petty, thoughtless and rude and Ive had enough of not being heard when we have complained numerous times in numerous ways. Maybe this will get...
Read moreTerrible customer service here. I go in, request 2 temp library cards and get told "that's not possible" .. then I got asked why I need 2. I replied I need to print off some court papers and tax return and I was under the impression that printing these papers were free of charge..
So then the lady behind the counter called a guy over and explains the situation to him. He comes back with you can't get 2 temp cards.
So I said ok, I'll take one card then. The lady then proceeds to request ID. I have NEVER been asked for ID for using a computer at the library. So then I get your temp card, go to a computer. The computer took 15 minutes to log in, and load chrome. Then I attempted to log into TurboTax and that took the computer another 10 minutes to figure out..
I get everything ready, tell the computer to print it off to be told I would be charged $20.. I went to question this charge to be told it is how it is..
Needless to say, I won't return and I suggest anybody else who needs legal documents printed not to...
