My 2005 Toyota Highlander developed a problem where all the gauges in the instrument cluster and lights quit working. I first checked all the fuses to make sure they were good which they were. I did a little bit of research online and found that the problem was more than likely the instrument cluster. I called the dealership told them what I needed, and they immediately told me it would be approximately $2000 to fix the problem. I was like wow what do I do? I just don’t have $2000 sitting around. So I did my homework and I happened to Find a place down in Richmond Virginia called Southern Electronics who rebuilds instrument clusters. I called them up. I spoke to Tom , I explained to him my problem and he told me that they had experienced problems like I was having on other Highlanders. He gave me a quote of what it would cost to completely rebuild my instrument cluster, which was significantly lower than what the dealership wanted to charge. so I went ahead and I pulled out the instrument cluster. I packaged it up. I sent it down to Southern electronics via UPS with the postage label provided by Southern Electronics. I mailed it out on a Tuesday 9/3/24. They received the cluster on Wednesday morning 9/4/24 and I received a call from Tom at Southern Electronics on Thursday 9/5/24 they told me that they had already received my unit and it was already repaired and they just needed payment and they would mail it right out to me and I would have it by Friday 9/6/24 I was shocked. He also told me he had a little bit of good news for me that the repair was a little bit lower in cost than what he originally quoted me. Which definitely made me very happy. I received the unit back Friday morning and it was installed in my vehicle Saturday morning and I am back up and running. Everything is working perfectly. Now this is amazing customer service and honesty he could’ve just stuck with the original quote that he gave me, but he didn’t. He made sure to give me the lower price. The turnaround time was unbelievable. Tom I want to thank you and the entire team at Southern Electronics very very much for getting my cluster working properly. Read moreI had the absolute worst experience at Southern Electronics today. Quentin by far has the worst customer service and product knowledge I have ever experienced!!! I went in today for what I thought would be a simple calibration check, which I’ve had done TWICE before at other shops and know for certain my calibration is off by 5, but I had misplaced that information and needed the documentation again for court. Quentin proceeded to do my calibration test and told me my calibration was not off AT ALL. He said he did the test twice and if I needed a third test I would then need to pay another $100. He was not willing to resolve the problem I asked to speak with a manger since it seemed we could not reach a common ground and Quentin demanded that he was in fact the manager, which I knew was false. I asked him for his name and he stated that it was on the paper and instructed me to look there, instead of just telling me his name! HOW UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Read moreI was having issues with my instrument cluster in my 2004 Ford Sport Trac, and mind you I live in Illinois…So as I was doing my research to replace it would have cost upwards of a thousand dollars if not more when all said and done.
When I found this place I was a little bit Leary because well…I’m in Illinois, they’re in Virginia, and I’m sending my part off to someplace I have never even knew existed until now.
Apparently my faith was very well founded because they fixed the issue for a few hundred dollars and got me set right again and saved me hundreds of dollars in the process and in a timely fashion. Plus it was plug and play…no hassle with expensive reprogramming or anything and the parts are still original to the vehicle.
Overall I am VERY pleased I did what I did and I would gladly recommend these...
