Last year, while skiing in the area, my daughter needed new ski boots, when I asked at the Wildcat rental shop for a recommendation they said "Stan & Dan's". She got fitted by a very competent guy and we went away happy. This year, while visiting the area again (Jan 2014) I thought I needed new ski boots for myself b/c I didn't like the fit of my boot, so I went in with my boots. I was assisted by a charming gentleman named Dickie, who instead of taking the opportunity to sell me new boots at $400++, simply adjusted the fit of my existing boot by adding some insoles and heel wedges (etc.) and working with me and the boot until I was satisfied with the fit. For this I was charged $50, I was most impressed that instead of taking advantage of my situation, a staff member (Dickie) at Stan & Dan's was able to fix what was wrong. I am pleased to report that I am very happy with the fit of boot, skiing was much improved! As a result of this excellent customer service, we went back and made some other ski-related purchases. These people obviously know their stuff! Note, when it is busy, you might have to wait (I waited ~ 25 mins) but they put your name on a list and call you when it is your turn. I get the feeling that this shop has very high ethics and we would not hesitate to go back whenver the need for professional ski assistance...
Read moreAtomic issued a mandatory recall on one of their ski bindings and required users to bring the bindings to an atomic dealer to verify if the bindings fell within a particular serial number range, and if so, Atomic would issue a replacement at no cost. I dropped mine off at Stan and Dans in August, and heard nothing from the shop for a few months, so I called in October. I was told “atomic is working on it.” One more month passes with no contact, so I call again, and the same “Atomic is working on it” response with no indication of a timeline for completion. This obvious lack of care or information seemed odd, so I asked a shop employee to at least check the serial number to see if it fell in the defective serial range which is posted online. Turns out my binding wasn’t in the range, so no action was needed after all. So in all, the shop did absolutely nothing in 3 months and continued to blatantly lie to me about the “atomic is working on it” updates. Terrible communication and lazy service. All they had to do was unscrew a binding and look at the serial number range – even that was too much work...
Read moreStore renovations looked great when I stopped in today. Came in just after open with 4 customers in the store- all browsing at the time. Attempted to be self sufficient and locate new ski boots for my son as employee presence was sparse. ( I totally understand everyone is short staffed.) I couldn’t locate youth boots. I waited up front for several moments before an employee finally asked what I needed. When I let him know what I was looking for (I knew the size) I was told that I needed an appointment. I suggested that I could purchase the boots and come back another time for a fitting as I’m local - and was told that I still needed an appointment. While I can appreciate appointments and personalized service, I was disappointed that I wasn’t permitted to purchase any boots. It’s unfortunate as I also needed to buy ski pants and gloves and ended up taking the 35 min drive to Sports Haus in Bridgton where they graciously accepted my $350 sale. I love to support local and have supported this business in the past, but I don’t think we...
