My recent round at Dos Lagos Golf Course was, without a doubt, one of the most frustrating and disappointing golf experiences I've ever had. If I could give it zero stars, I would, but since one is the lowest option, that's what it gets. The primary issue, and the reason for this abysmal rating, was the utterly unbearable pace of play.
Over five and a half hours. Let me repeat that: over five and a half hours to play 18 holes. This isn't a major championship, and we weren't a group of beginners. The course was a complete logjam from the very first hole, and it never let up. Every single tee box had at least one group waiting, and more often than not, two. The round felt less like a relaxing day on the links and more like a never-ending exercise in patience.
What made this experience even more infuriating was the complete lack of action from the course management. We saw a course marshal on several occasions, but they seemed to be more interested in driving around aimlessly than actually doing their job. They made no attempt to address the slow groups or improve the flow of play. It was as if they were completely oblivious to the gridlock that was ruining the day for dozens of paying customers.
I've played plenty of courses where a slow round is an occasional inconvenience, but this was on another level. The lack of concern for the player experience at Dos Lagos is frankly astounding. Unless you can get a 7 am tee time, save your money, save your time, and find a course that actually cares about its patrons' time and enjoyment. This...

I hope you have the self-respect and dignity to spend your money where they respect you and offer dignity. At Dos Lagos, the underlying philosophy of the GM, Stan, and is reinforced by Matt, the Manager, is that everyone who comes on their property is trying to screw them.
If you're against nanny states, this is a nanny course. The people who work at this course are not outright dishonest, but I've had enough girlfriends that found omission to be the same as a lie that I'll call them dishonest in that they will omit their actual intentions. I asked for ice, and they said to bring my beverages inside and they would give me ice. Instead of giving me ice, he confiscated my beverages. Matt claimed it was because of their liquor license, but he also said they don't catch everyone, and they still have their liquor license. Matt and Stan treat people, so that they will be dishonest. If they treated people with dignity, people will be more likely to act honestly rather than deceive them.
I understand that one needs self-respect to treat others with some respect, so ultimately, I hope Matt finds a job that allows him his own dignity. Matt seemed like a decent enough guy, and it seemed as if he's just in a bad place.
If he had asked me to leave beers in the car, I would have. I'm very honest when it comes to these things. Instead of being decent, they chose to start by treating their customers like thieves.. My whole thought, if you're trying to stop other deceivers, you should be better than them,...
Read moreDos Lagos could definitely use improvements. I've played this course enough times to say it can change your game negatively due to its conditions. The fairways are PHYSICALLY very hard which causes irons to bounce/jump causing more thin shots. And, to make it worse, the bare, dried out condition make even being in the middle of the fairway a punishment because you're simply hitting on hard pan. On a few other holes, areas of the fairway were soaked. Luckily the greens were in good shape and does roll true, but tricky due to the hills. As for sand traps, I was only in one once but did notice most were not raked. I don't think it's an emphasis for the facility. I didn't even find a rake in the trap i was in. Tee boxes are in fair conditions. Still had a good time but it did change my swing due to conditions at hand and will have to deprogram myself. My current handicap - 9 My ratings for this course Course Difficulty - 3.5 Course condition - 2.5 Greens - 4 Tee boxes - 3.5 Fairways - 2.5 Sand traps - 2.5 Facilities - clean - 4 Practice area - na *Total -...
