I loved our first visit to this place. The KMart in Los Angeles, CA on Vermont Ave. and Slauson Ave. was going through renovations so with the free time that we had, the little and I decided to spend some time on an adventure. I had never been to the city of Cudahy just because, so we ventured out to explore. Our first stop was KMart to pick up laundry detergent. My go-to brand had changed from GAIN liquid to GAIN Flings for the added fabric softener and gentle cleaning. I incidentally scored a $13 cash back card for some pre-holiday shopping I did in Burbank earlier this month so with the points and rebate the grand damage total was $.04. Four lousy pennies that should have been out of circulation for a decent bag of goodies. The Cudahy Mall was a couple of blocks South of KMart and it was wonderful. WalMart, Forever 21, CVS, GStage, and so many other shopping destinations were all located here. Our lunch choices were not any better since we could only choose one. Chipotle, In-N-Out Burger, Subway (they had 2), Wingstop, Ono Hawaiian, just to name a few. Coupons and holiday discounts galore, you didn't have to spend that much to get that much. My favorite part about it all was that my little one enjoyed the water works display, considering that it was still mighty warm in December to "go swimming" lol. She was hesitant at first but that didn't delay the fact that she was there to get more than just her feet wet. She left completely saturated, with the exception of her bottom and I left with 3 bags of goodies and necessities...
Read moreThroughout my childhood, I'll make frequent visits with my mother and explore the plaza. However, in contrast to the past, since K-Mart went out of business only about a month ago, the parking lot is nearly deserted. For many years, a great deal of customers would either travel to Pic-N-Save (now it's called Big Lots), T-Shirt Land (it too lost business) and of course K-Mart. Nevertheless, it's hard to note whom or which large business franchise would claim ownership of those two vacant lots. Time may only tell, but otherwise, in spite of all the hardship and a large number of unemployed workers. I'm positive that the city of Cudahy will redeem itself, much like it's nearby communities of South Gate's Azalea, Downey's Promenade, Huntington Park's Pacific Boulevard, and Lynwood's Plaza Mexico. In the meanwhile, Tasty Goody, Payless Shoes, Jamba Juice, Big Lots, and Little Ceasar are...
