My wife and I visited this skating rink in November 2014, about a month before we got engaged. It's still one of our favorite dates to think back on. We now have two young kids and aren't able to pull away for one-on-one dates as easily/often as we used to. But this past weekend, we finally got to step away for a couple hours and decided to revisit this rink, largely because we'd had so much fun here the last time.
I'm disappointed to say we didn't have the same experience this time around, for two reasons:
Between the skates and the ice, we ended up having to tap out just 15min after stepping onto the ice and decided to at least go for a walk around the Riverfront to try to make the most of what was left of our date time. In the short time we were there, I saw quite a few people step on the ice and either step back off shortly afterwards (many with their skates collapsed, like mine) or just stand in place, so I don't think I was the only one having these issues. I guess for $4/ea, we shouldn't have expected pristine skates and a freshly Zamboni-ed ice rink, but still... A little upkeep would make a huge difference.
That said, if you have your own skates, still be prepared for very notchy ice unless it gets smoothed out in the near future. If you don't, you may want to save your $ and try...
Read moreI don’t like to give bad reviews but it my first and last time there. Seemed kind of small, but worse was the rink had a lot of ice shavings on it and it made it hard to skate. And it felt bumpy/ not smooth. Plus my ice skates really hurt my ankles. Oh when she first gave me my skates they were way too big so I told her and she gave me smaller ones that still felt like mens or something and too big. We only did a few laps. I’ve ice skated plenty and this was the worst one. I also thought it was odd they were playing some regular music and not all Christmas music, but...
Read moreIt's a decent place to go skate. The view is nice and the location is convienent. The price is excellent, but the ice I would say isn't kept very smooth and the rink itself is fairly small so they can only allow a decent amount of people in at a time, which is already shrunken down because of Covid guidelines. But if you do come here and enjoy ice skating, I'll bet you'll have fun. And when you're done, there's plenty of places to go eat...
