Well lets see, where to start? The day I moved in as my boyfriend and I were unloading my belongings a woman came up to us and asked if we were moving in or out. Reason being she said was cause she was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot. After living here for about 8 months I'd have to say that was her own fault, she was not paying attention to her surroundings. Yes the neighborhood is not the best but I have not had any problems besides minor encounters with the shady characters that inhabit the surrounding apartment complexes. The first time was when I brought home my dog for the first time and two children hanging out of the window of the neighboring complex were screaming at me telling me that I needed to give them my dog or they would kill me. These children were around 10 years old and needed a spanking, nothing too serious. The second incident was when a woman walking down the sidewalk in front of the complex yelled at me because she was walking in the middle of our driveway and I was driving in it. With the new Walmart in place, people like to cut through our property to get to theirs on Ridgecrest. They never cause problems but a few of my neighbors were unsettled by it so they talked to managment about it and I see less traffic nowadays. The new managment is great from my experience. I had problems with my downstairs neighbors having men sit outside her apartment and they made me feel uncomfortable with some comments they made to me. I told the office about it and I didn't have any more problems. Then she was moved out within the following month. The property is great if you have a dog! The dogpark is great for socializing and all the dog owners here are friendly. The water gets turned off quite often because they are trying to fix a leak underground I believe but most of the time it is not an issue for me because they usually do it during the day while I am at work. Also, anytime I have put in a maintenance request they are in and out before I even know it. I have not had the opportunity to use the pool but it is very resort-like as I've seen in passing. One thing I would have to say frustrated me the most was the gym. Only two treadmills and they are usually taken and the lighter weight dumbbells are missing or were never there so I couldn't do weight training there. I had to go to LA Fitness which is 2 minutes down the road and get a membership, which worked out better anyway cause I was able to meet new people. The neighborhood may not be that great but it has awesome placement when it comes to retail and such. There is a Whole Foods, Park Lane Outlet mall, Northpark Mall, TOP GOLF, Walmart accross the street as I mentioned earlier, Super Target, and many more places within a 5 minute drive. Parking was getting crowded there for a little while so the new managment implemented a towing policy. It sounds like a possitive thing but I have caught the towing company towing cars that I noticed were only there for the night. Yes they give us guest passes but when i graduated college and had more than one friend stay over I was nervous about their car getting towed. I love my apartment. Out of all the complexes I went and toured in my search these stuck out incredibly. I have awesome stainless steel appliances and didn't have to pay a "upgrade charge" to get them, they are standard here!!! The general interior of my apartment is quite nice. My countertops are not laminate and I have dark wood columns on my island with a pendant light fixture hanging above. The ceiling fan has to be one of my favorite things about my apartment. It is remote control opporated. Also there is no nasty carpet. The built in filtered water faucet in the kitchen is great for my wallet cause I dont have to buy bottled water from the store anymore. This property was a great choice for me being a college student when I moved in. They are reasonable with their prices and you cant find anything else with the same ammenities for...
Read moreI lived here for almost 3 years. At first when I was able bodied it was great because the bus stop is right out front and the Walmart and Sam’s club are across the street with cheap rent. The downsides are they raise the rent a flat 10% every year, so my rent went from $784 to $919 in 2 years for a one bedroom. $919 is wayyy too much to pay for this place. The granite they use on the countertops and floors are cheap granite and gets heat spots and water spots super easily. I left my blinds in my patio cracked once on the 1st floor and someone immediately tried to break into my apartment. They had to come fix it.
My freezer wasn’t cold enough and meat rot and ice cream melted in the freezer. Maintenance said there was nothing wrong with it. My fridge leaked water inside and rusted the fridge. Maintenance also said there was nothing wrong with the fridge. My bedroom flooded every time it rained and they only tried to fix it once. I had a huge mold problem where the water came in and no matter how much I mopped it would grow back when it rained. I had asthma attacks and sneezed a lot from the mold. I had to put a waterproof mattress protector on the bottom of my mattress so the mold wouldn’t ruin it. Humidity was so horrible my mattress would get wet. Get dehumidifiers if you are stuck here.
In fact, I’m in my new mold free and bug free place, and laying on my mattress I was so congested I’d wake up at night and couldn’t breathe out of my nose. Once I put a thick mattress protector on the mattress and changed the sheets, I now have no issues with congestion and sneezing. I wish I would have filed an insurance claim for the mattress due to poor living conditions with the mold problem. I’ll have to use this mold infested mattress for a little while longer.
When I first moved in there were giant roaches crawling all over the walls. I used some liquid roach baits and it mostly took care of the problem. Luckily no roaches got in my boxes when I moved out! My biggest issue though was the gnats. There were so many they invaded the fridge and freezer and there were literally hundreds dead gnats (not an exaggeration) everywhere inside. I had to buy gnat traps on a regular basis because the whole property was so badly infested that gnats would swarm in every time I opened my door.
I rescued one of the stray cats that live there because it was determined to be adopted that day, and I got him a nice home where he’s loved and spoiled.
Also if you are physically disabled, do not move here! It’s quite possibly the worst place you can be. It’s like the people who remodeled this place back in 2010 didn’t like disabled people. It’s not the current management’s fault. It’s the original owners fault.
I moved to an accessible actual luxury apartment and I’m now seeing how bad I had it at Cityscape. Even my cats were miserable and now they are in a nice big apartment and super happy. Cityscape had my cats so stressed out over poor living conditions that they developed medical issues that vets couldn’t explain. We moved into a super nice luxury apartment and all those issues magically went away when their stress disappeared in our new place. Again, not an exaggeration. Really happened.
I do not recommend...
Read moreI no longer live in these apartments because mine CAUGHT FIRE due to an issue with faulty electrical wires in the attic, which, lucky me, happened to be right above my bathroom. Lucky for me, this got me out of my lease. Unlucky for me, I signed a lease with them in the first place (aka do NOT make the same mistake I did, unless you have a death wish).
Here are the issues I had with CityScape in the 4 months I was unfortunate enough to have lived there (and I'll start with the minor infractions):
Lost credit card information on multiple occasions.
Charged late fees for rent after credit card information was lost (I was signed up for automatic withdrawals).
Moved into an apartment that was INFESTED WITH ROACHES in July. For the first few weeks I could not stay in the unit due to the extreme amount of roaches in it. I was told that the exterminator handled it and moved back in; I was also told that it would be cleaned (it wasn't). I still encountered approximately 5 roaches per week to this day, and I only stayed in the unit approximately 2 days per week, sometimes fewer (I travel for work). I asked multiple times and was told that I would be signed up on the list to receive weekly sprayings by the exterminator, but that apparently never happened. On multiple occasions I called in to remind them to spray my apartment and still the exterminator did not come in every week. I called in and asked for a "bug bomb" which I was given by Jamie -the apartment manager- and made to set off myself in the unit when the roach infestation was first discovered. I was denied a second bug bomb. I asked for rent concessions due to these ongoing issues - and asked for a supervisors contact info - and did not receive until my apartment caught fire, (go figure).
FIRE and damaged property due to faulty wiring in the attic above my unit.
Lack of communication following all issues, but in particular, the 32+ (yes THIRTY TWO) hours that went by after the fire because Jamie "was given the wrong number". (I stood there with another office worker while he was on the phone with her and gave him my number. I also left multiple-I believe 4 or 5-voicemails both at the leasing office and on the emergency maintenance line-and spoke with the maintenance worker who said he would have Jamie call me as well). I never heard from her. I had to continue to call the office and finally, at approximately 11am Monday (almost 2 full days after the fire) I was able to get in touch with Jamie when I called and she answered the phone in her office (and then told me she was out of the office until Wednesday-maybe she has call forwarding-but it surely seemed to me as though she was trying to avoid both myself as well as the other tenant with fire damage, and the situation entirely).
It's now been over 1 month since the fire and though I was put in touch with the corporate office of Greystone Communities and promised a refund, I still have not received it, and it's been 10 days and 5 unreturned emails later that prompted me to write...
