And honest review- the gym is great because of the location and size. However compared to other gyms in the price range …it disappoints. The selection of gym equipment is nice, however the clientele lacks basic integrity in cleaning up and racking up after themselves. They ask that you check in for recovery services at the front which I have no problem with however when there is no one at the front desk when you walk in it’s kinda hard to do that. The problem doesn’t stop there if you are running short on time and don’t have time to wait until the employees are all done hanging out in the little glass room in the back and go utilize the recovery lounge, someone will then feel the need to come project their inadequacy to do their job and tell you that it should be your responsibility, the customer who already pays an extra 90 dollars a month, to go look for a staff member and let them know you want to use one of the recovery lounges machines. They never have properly laundered clothing items needed for the cryo machine (hat, mask, gloves, socks) and suggest getting “creative” and using towels to wrap your fingers from getting frostbit. The locker room amenities are subpar- they provide thin small towels for showering however gym goers not utilizing the pool, are taking the larger beach towels intended for people utilizing the swimming pool and thus leaving swimmers to not have access to the larger towels. The gym provides the same one cheap liquid gel for hair, body, and hand wash, no conditioner provided. And lastly on numerous occasions people will walk in the co-ed sauna with their phones blaring music out loud or signing out loudly and (and no, not in their headphones but out of their phone speakers) disturbing the space and tranquility people are trying to find when utilizing a sauna. Overall the gym is not great but not horrible, if they don’t want to have staff upfront all the time and would rather chit chat in the back then a scanning system at the recovery lounge doors would help allow for people who do have access to utilize the lounge without being made to feel like we the customers did something wrong because we didn’t check in at the front when there was no one there also I think some upgrades to the amenities as well as more strict rules for gym goers being caught not cleaning up after themselves and some sauna etiquete rules posted on the sauna door should help turn this place around. And to the people playing music out of your phone and signing along loudly please refrain from such behavior and save it for your private gym until then this is a communal space and you should respect the...
Read moreThe newest addition to the Cowboys fit gym locations located in Deep Ellum is a premium site similar to that at the Star in Frisco. A much needed location since the older downtown location is fairly small in comparison.
Being a premier location, the membership is a little bit more expensive than the one downtown, but comes with many more amenities than the alternative. Including: a three lane indoor lap pool, co-ed sauna, outdoor track, cryotherapy chamber (full-body), standing infrared sauna, full infrared sauna, two infrared cocoon sauna beds, Normatech air compression (legs, hips, & arms), four water massage beds, and Hyperice vibrating foam roller/massage ball/massage gun. Also, each locker room is large and includes multiple showers. The only thing they have t included yet are the plastic bags to use for sweaty gym clothes when you're done with your workout.
The training area includes an extensive cardio section with new treadmills, stair steppers, etc. that all connect to your Apple Watch if your big in tracking your workouts. The free Wright section has a variety of equipment that is great for any type of training you plan on doing at the gym. There's also two deadlift platforms and four squat racks on the back wall. The gym includes a Cross-functional training section for those wanting to do circuits and/or crossfit, as well as a large turf section for sleds, rolling, sprints, whatever your heart desires.
All in all, this is a great facility with a good amount of space. It's newly renovated from what was the older health facility at Baylor-Scott White Hospital - so it's in a well lit parking lot and fairly safe area of Deep Ellum.
The only thing you need to consider is how much you want to pay for a quality gym, as a membership here will run you about $89/month after tax (couples membership being $129/m before tax) and the recovery section requires you to pay additional fees - the "All-Inclusive" package (I.e., unlimited cryo, saunas, compression, etc.) will run you another $100/m per person. Thus, it ain't cheap. Additionally, the hours aren't great and I hope they extend them soon. They open at 5:30 am and close at 9 pm - and they will remind you to leave when closing over the speakers. Also, recovery lounge usually closes at 8 pm... but on Friday it closes at 5 pm (gym closes at 7 pm) and on the weekends it closes at 1 pm - which is crazy to me as the gym doesn't close until 5 pm on Saturday/Sunday. This is the main shortfall.
All in all though, this is a quality gym with great features and you should definitely take advantage of the trial passes to come...
Read moreCowboys Fit is not a great gym or a bad gym. They are great because of the equipment and multiples of machines, free weights, etc. They are very poor at keeping the locker room clean. Often, there are towels thrown on the floor by boys without rearin', the floor is dirty, the laundry baskets are overflowing, and there's no concern from management, who I've seen often in the locker room and appear not to notice and care, so whatever bad cleaning habits are overlooked, are enabled.
They make the desk help do the laundry, which I've never seen before. Even LA Fitness has dedicated cleaning staff. Lifetime has dedicated locker room staff.
This is not a community gym, with no social scene because there are just a trickle of classes, scheduled and frequently canceled. Trainers don't seem to be able to build a steady clientele, and there's plenty of turnover. Stacks of supplements and racks of t-shirts for sale grow like lichen on trees as the weeks have passed.
But, they have a niche, and have grown the business, and have a very nice gym, and improve health, so there you are. Just kick the wet towels outta your way when in the locker room.
Been a member since the Mavericks used to practice here. It's a large facility with good balance of cardio, aquatics, free weights, and machines. Lots of classes and consistent staff of trainers. BTLFC is not a trend setter but rather a steady ship. Parking can be an issue depending on time of day. Not terribly fond of management but generally not an issue. They're managing through the reopening well and look forward to getting classes and the locker rooms reopened.
02/2022 Tom Landry Fitness Center was acquired by Cowboys Fit months ago and construction on the conversion is underway. It's unique in that new ownership has had no correspondence with existing membership regarding the construction schedule, architectural renderings, fee structure, and goodwill promotion. Note that staff is in the the same mushroom cave as the membership community---which has declined considerably since the pool was closed, group classes canceled, and the showers shut down. Those that remain are a core group and content to keep working out and wait what the new regime will bring. But the lack of communication and transparency is terribly poor marketing and does little to promote the future and build confidence in new ownership.
05/18/2022 Tom Landry Fitness Center will cease to exist 05/31/2022. Been nice...
