I came to LWH for prenatal care when I was six weeks pregnant. I stayed with Dr. Caram through my whole pregnancy and post-partum check-up. I could not have been more pleased with my experience.
More about Dr. Caram - She is very knowledgeable and competent. She takes the time to stay up to date on all the latest research and recommendations. She knows what to do and WHY it's the right thing. I also appreciated her bedside manner. She was very patient and reassuring when I was anxious. She was a coach when I needed to persevere and be strong. She is efficient without being impersonal. She's been doing this long enough to have seen everything, but young enough to still be sharp and adaptable. I had been really put off by my last OB-GYN, who was a bit of a bully, but Dr. Caram strikes the perfect balance of telling you what you need to do and respecting your autonomy.
The office was very well-managed. I could always get an appointment, and I didn't have to wait long when I arrived. They usually called me back within 10 minutes of my appointment time. Lisa, her MA, was very kind, remembered my name, and helped review all of my concerns. Everything in the office is done very intentionally. For example, when you arrive, they immediately take you back to give a urine sample -- very considerate for a woman in her third trimester.
My birth experience was very good. Dr. Caram only delivers at Baylor, and I have no complaints about that. I had a great experience there, and Dr. Caram was a very calming presence during delivery. She was managing my early labor remotely, but I could tell she was being very thoughtful even there. For example, she remembered I was worried about low electrolytes and dizziness, so she had me put on a drip with sodium in addition to the standard drip.
Overall, I would highly recommend to anyone looking for well-woman or...
Read moreI had given a 5 star, but after today I had to knock it down a few notches... Im very disappointed with what took place. I was a patient here and Dr. Caram even delivered my child in 2017. I have been having terrible hormone imbalances and seriously am in need of help for my hormonal health. I made an appointment for today, I arrived on time. When i made the appointment I told her i was a cash patient and ask how much it would be. The receptionist told me it would be $90 except I had a $40 credit so I would only have to pay $50. When I got there she was updating my information at the desk and it came time to pay for my appointment. It turns out not only did I NOT have a $40 credit , I had a past due amount of $142 that i had never received a bill for. I said, OK can I just pay the $90 now and either call tomorrow after I get my paycheck to pay the $142 or I can set up a payment plan to take care of it. She checked with someone named Melissa in the back who told her "No it must be paid in full today before being seen" . I had been waiting on this appointment for two weeks, I needed to find out whats going on with me and my awful hormone imbalance. I took the 2nd half of my day off from work and drove to downtown 30 min from my home to make this appointment only to be turned away because I couldn't PAY IN FULL right then ($250 more than I had anticipated by the way) . I will never go back to this dr office again , not only am I an existing patient since 2017, my oldest daughter is a patient also. I felt completely disregarded as if my health was not a priority. Any physicians office that will put the bottom line over a patients health should rethink why they are...
Read moreMy daughter went here for her first baby’s prenatal care. This practice definitely seems to lean towards the elephant in the room (if you know what I’m talking about). My daughter had Dr. Caram. I appreciate and respect anyone in this profession and will never take away from the advances of the medical field or neglect to follow medical advice. But, as a Believer and black woman, this practice needs to respect and take into consideration what servicing either of those categories really means.
We had to pray against all the repetitive hoopblah and mind conditioning tactics. One star deduction for that. Gain trust with understanding not by explaining credentials, because most people already know why they come here due to the expertise. Find out what is important to the expecting mom (regardless of personal beliefs) and fight your hardest to make it happen while keeping mom and baby safe.
Fast forward to baby arrival… my daughter gets an unexpected phone call from the hospital stating she was late to get induced😳. I’m sorry, but I suppose now days doctors are just telling women when to have babies on their schedule, not based on the women’s body or baby’s natural schedule. Another star deduction for that because she was completely blindsided, but felt pressured to go in anyway.
Overall, definitely, not the place to come to for a natural birth experience or to be prepped for one, even a vaginal birth. My daughter informed me that she did not even have a Lamaze class. Normally, that is set up through obgyn.
I gave three stars for delivery of my beautiful grand-baby and healthy mom, comfortable environment, friendly/helpful staff and...
