I had higher expectations for this Saturday Power Hip Hop class with Cam, particularly given that it was advertised as a Power Hip Hop class. Before attending, I reached out via Instagram to inquire specifically about the class level and was told that it would move at an intermediate pace, with options provided for different skill levels.
However, I found that the only option given was "freestyle arms, and “heavy” footwork" which did not meet my expectations for a class at this “intermediate” level. I understand their are “footwork” classes or maybe that’s what the studio means by “power hip hop” which is fine but maybe a preview or small description what it entails.
The choreography seemed to be limited to footwork and freestyle, with no variation in arm movements. Unfortunately, the instructor was also a few minutes late, which, while understandable, contributed to the overall experience.
Based on the choreography provided, it appeared that the routine may have been created within an hour or less, as it felt very repetitive and lacked the depth I had anticipated from an “intermediate”-level class. (Not discrediting the choreographer because a class is a class, everyone’s choreography/instruction is different)
As someone who was genuinely excited about this class in Dallas and being on vacation, I left feeling dissatisfied with the overall experience. I believe that in such a competitive industry, it’s important for classes to be accurately described and for the instructor to receive maybe approval or feedback from the owner to ensure consistency in the class offerings. In a city like Dallas, known for its diversity and strong dance culture, it’s crucial that the quality of instruction aligns with the expectations set for the class. From my personal experience, I’ve paid similar or even lower fees for classes that offered well-rounded instruction, high-quality choreography, and modifications for various levels. Whether the instructor has a large following or not, number of heads in class, the value of a class lies in its ability to offer engaging, effective instruction for dancers of all levels. Yes I understand, the studio may go off of age level/experience with experienced or non experienced..
As a dance instructor with collegiate experience, competitive studio, cheer background intersected, and a regular class participant in various studios in the Houston area, I understand the competitive nature of this industry. Unfortunately, I found the choreography in this class to be quite limited. While I recognize room for growth, both for myself and the instructor, I was hoping for a more in depth/fun/challenging experience. I would never walk out of a class out of respect, but I did feel disappointed once we reached the actual choreography segment “without arms”. More so thought instructor was kidding but wasn’t. Perhaps if this is even read or taken into consideration: A preview of the class content on social media (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook Stories) could help promote number of heads better gauge what to expect and accurate description that aligns with class. I hope this feedback helps enhance the experience for future participants, every dancer/instructor has room for growth and pass...
Read moreThe Movement Loft is more than just a yoga studio. It offers opportunities to dance, meditate, reflect, heal, and build community.
I started my yoga practice here and the staff was nothing but supportive and encouraging. If you're new to yoga check this place out. The classes emphasize on doing what you can and letting that consistency take its course.
The dance classes were fun and reflect a variety of types. The teachers don't expect everyone to be a dance but to bring an open mind and have fun.
Despite me changing studios (I needed a place with a wider schedule) I still come back once in a while to visit my home because that's the space that Ellen (owner) has created.

Read moreEllen is amazing! We booked a yoga + sound bath at our home for a girls weekend. Ellen was super responsive and made the booking process seamless, and arrived promptly at our booked time. She was so friendly and helpful in figuring out where we needed to set up space. Most importantly, she led a wonderful gentle flow yoga session tailored to our group of beginners, followed by a relaxing sound bath that truly restored us all after a long night. Finally, she had us set our intentions aloud for our guest of honor which was such a special moment for our group. We really appreciated Ellen facilitating such a relaxing and bonding event for us. Highly recommend,...
