Our visit to Lockbox Escape Rooms was highly disappointing and frustrating. The poor customer service and inattentive staff made the experience unpleasant from the start. We were kept waiting for almost 45 minutes in a cramped lobby, despite arriving on time for our scheduled 8:15 PM experience. The employee who welcomed us rushed through the instructions of the room to the point we have no idea what she actually said and lacked enthusiasm, leaving us feeling uneasy and confused from the start.
The room we chose, "Mystical Magic Emporium," didn't live up to the positive reviews and online videos. The puzzles were poorly organized, some barely worked, and lacked clarity, hindering our progress. The person monitoring the room was disengaged, providing repetitive and unhelpful hints (How many times can you tell someone to check an empty box - which led no where until he gave another hint that had nothing to do with the empty box). We even had to wait a long time for hints as we were told to "hold on" multiple times, wasting precious paid time.
To make matters worse, the staff member monitoring our room left their microphone on, distracting us as he continued to munch on snacks in the microphone and what appeared to be typing noises. The lack of guidance on crucial "key words" or concepts for completing the puzzles added to our frustration. Near the end of the experience, a different staff member was helpful (Sam), but by then, it was too late. We learned that this room was a single-space experience, unlike their other multi-roomed options.
As someone who has tried many escape rooms in Florida, this experience was a letdown. Lockbox Escape Rooms failed to meet expectations in scheduling, customer service, puzzle design, and hints. While it might be suitable for children and teenagers, it fell short for adults seeking a quality escape room experience. We cannot recommend this establishment based on our visit and hope they take these criticisms seriously and make significant improvements...
Read more*UPDATE Regarding the review below, Samantha, the manager of Lockbox did reach out to me to resolve the situation that had occurred. She was extremely apologetic, understanding and empathetic towards the experience we had. In our conversation she had shared the many steps she took to gather all her information and addressed the issues promptly with the staff member involved. She shared with me her expectations of her staff, the ongoing training tactics and that what we experienced was not how she runs the business nor is it a good representation of Lockbox. Samantha was very professional, interested to hear our side and corrected the problem. She has invited us to come back and we are happy to accept her invitation.
Review: My daughter celebrated her 16th birthday here today. They were all excited and looked forward to their time at Lockbox. Although the kids enjoyed the escape room itself their individual feedback on their Game Master was “she was mean” and “I don’t think she liked us”….”she also ignored us when we asked for clues”…”she would listen in to our conversation and same something rude back”. I the mom could hear her myself from the waiting area and thought her tone and delivery was not good, however I thought maybe I was being too protective until they all came out and shared with me the exact same experience; all 5. It’s unfortunate as the kids are there to have a fun time. The Game Master should have a similar mind set being in this environment/line of work. When the kids were all done she didn’t come out to say bye or anything; very odd. There was a second lady who walked in part way through the hour we were there and didn’t even greet us; just walked past us. Very poor customer skills. I’m glad the kids could look past the negative undesirable attitude and have a great time regardless, however we will not be back nor would we recommend going there with kids or teens. I am all for supporting local businesses, however not when they...
Read moreThis was my first time attending an escape room. I asked many questions to the front desk staff before paying and entering, including if seven people were OK for the challenge. The front desk staff assured me that seven people was great for the challenge, yet refused to answer many of my questions and just repeated that we would have a blast. Once in, soon after the challenge began, it became obvious that seven people was too many. It became a bit chaotic. The staff assists with clues, but the speaker has a lot of noise and can only be heard from one of the rooms. So we kept missing what was being told to us. Two members of our group had attended other escape rooms in the past and they said that this one looked a bit "run down" and that these puzzles weren't as fun. I really have nothing to compare it to, but I wasn't too impressed. We were charged $35 per person, regardless of age (so young children do pay the same as adults), also a service fee, as well as a sales tax. Do keep in mind that they also request a tip for the gamemaster, that starts at 15% and up. So, for a group of 7 you are easily looking to pay about $300 more or less. I personally wouldn't recommend more than 4, maybe 5 people to play a challenge at any time though. At the end, a staff member offered to take a group picture of us, but it had to be taken with his phone, which made me feel a tad uncomfortable. Either way, the group agreed and we allowed him to take the picture which he said we would receive a copy of via email. We never received the group picture. Overall, based on this single experience, I...
