Davie Kava — Restaurant in Davie

A little bit of a weird experience...but maybe it's my fault for going in the afternoon rather than the evening. There was just one older lady working the counter, and she was nice (offered me a sample which was nice) - but told me that the drink I ordered is made from a premade powder mix (not exactly the best advertising for your drink if I didn't explicitly ask for that information) and also asked me my first and last name out of nowhere which was super awkward, and then later explained she wanted to sign me up for Clover, but I didn't want to sign up. Just maybe tell me what you're wanting my information for first instead of asking my first and last name with no context in the first minute of meeting me lol. I told her that I had looked at the menu online and had a few things in mind, and she said "oh well the menu is probably not accurate online", and then I just proceeded to order the thing I had seen online, so that was also awkward. Kind of a first day on earth kind of interaction haha but maybe customer service isn't her thing. It was also super hot in there but I had already gotten my drink and I had some work to do so I set up my laptop anyway. I was just about to leave because it was so hot when James (I'm assuming the owner) came in, got the AC on, and gave me a free tea for the heat. That was super kind and totally saved the experience. He made the energy way more comfortable. I'm still giving 4 stars just because the whole vibe before James got there was suuupperrrrr awkward and the energy was just super off. Again, maybe in the evenings with more customers or staff it...

The owner is very weird. I should’ve listened to other reviews about him and not wasted my time coming here. Seems more money hungry than actually caring about what the kava community is about. Pretends to care about customers but kept calling me a name that wasn’t mine very loudly until someone that knew me had to correct him. He then proceeded to ask if we were going to order and I did but then when my partner didn’t want to order a drink he got very rude and made an entire scene that “Its a business not a library “ which made the experience very uncomfortable we just decided to not get anything at all. When literally half the people that go there go to make music and his employees even encourage the “music oriented bar” If you have the chance hit up TWISTED ROOTS in Hollywood. They have amazing drinks and a FRIENDLY environment where everyone is welcome.

I already mentioned what I would like to order before you made that unnecessary comment. I’ve purchased something every time i go there including that day. Theres other reviews of people saying they go there to “chill and study” so that comes off very misleading. Also, you were promoting movie night! thats what we were there for LOL! Theres nothing there we can use as our own benefit, what a ridiculous assumption. I understand you want to make a statement out of your business but theres a nicer way to say things. Especially to supporting customers but everyone has bad days , I guess yours are more than the regular....

DO NOT BUY INTO THESE OTHER REVIEWS THAT GIVE GOOD RATINGS THEY ARE FABRICATED AND FAKE!! The owner makes women feel very uncomfortable. Terrible product, terrible owner, and Terrible atmosphere. The first time i came here the owners demeanor was very intense and strange. I still to this day have nightmares of his creepy eyes. The whole thing felt like a fever dream. He demands you buy one drink per hour despite that no other kava bar requests such an outlandish thing. Its not like the place is slammed theres enough space for customers that you dont have to enforce such a policy. His excuse is that alcoholic bars would have a policy like this, that simply isnt true. If it was nobody would be able to leave the bar standing on two feet. Anyways, Kava bars are not alcohol bars. Thats so lame for him to even compare the two and shows his knowledge and perception of kava bars. Definitely stay away and let his business crumble due to his money hungry and narcissistic tendencies. Its been slow and will always be slow, You will see with his reply to this review how out of touch and sanctimonious he really is. Stay away from this grifter. There is kavana kava in the same area and its great!! It has a pool table and good vibes and people. The product is truly great and no 1 drink per hour policy.
