Went back to the gym for the second time today. The first time I didn't even go in because there were so many people with masks off and it was jam-packed. After today, it wasn't much better but I decided to really get a good look in how they are running the gym. They advertise so called "upgraded sanitary measures". I work in a local hospital. Covid cases from Dearborn are on the rise. I'm not surprised, given the gym is basically operating like we are not in an ongoing pandemic. If you look at the website specific to this Dearborn location, they have a long list of reassurances and rules, none of which were followed. I saw a violation of basically every state law and an absence of any specific measures they promised on that website.
They do have signs on the door saying you need to wear a mask, but this seems to be just for show. 75% of the people in the gym were either not wearing a mask or had their noses hanging out. There is no social distancing. Some of the cardio equipment has signs on them saying not to use them to put a distance between machines, and I saw at least three people blatantly remove the signs and put them on a different machine. Everyone is congregated in large close groups around the cable and weight machines, breathing all over each other, masks hanging from their faces. Very few were wiping down machines before or after use like the gym said you had to do. Maybe that's because half of the sanitation stations I visited were out of paper towels. I saw one hand sanitizer station mounted to the wall near the desk, none anywhere else? They make you sign a piece of paper saying that you agree to wear a mask at all times, each time you visit, but obviously this is not enforced at all. It seems like they have you sign the piece of paper more so that they can do 'contact tracing' when an outbreak inevitably occurs. The staff at the front desk just stands there on their phones, so i don't know why they would advertise that they would be working extra hard to do extra deep cleans. And honestly, for what they probably get paid, I don't even think it's fair to expect some preteen to confront a guy twice their size about not wearing a mask. The gym was not limited in capacity or limited to an hour workout as advertised. it was just as busy as any other day before covid. They said they were limiting guest passes to members, but are giving away guest passes to bring in even more people. None of this makes sense.
Other people I have talked to at other gyms told me that they were straight up told that the manager watches video of the floor and if he sees anyone with a mask off, they have their membership removed. I'm going to cancel my membership tomorrow and look for a gym that takes covid seriously. I've worked in an ER and saw firsthand how horrible it is to watch somebody die of this disease alone. It is a disgrace, an insult, and straight up dangerous to see the lack of responsibility this gym feels in protecting its community.
DO NOT COME HERE if you are older, immunocompromised, have a chronic illness, or are otherwise part of a high risk group. Please keep...
Read moreI went into Crunch excited that my guest would be able to use the amenities along with me, I read reviews that guests can not take classes but when I signed up I was assured that my guest would be able to use hydro massage, tanning etc, and my guest was able to use it for some time with no problem, but then things changed so I asked to cancel my month-to-month plan and was told I was on a YEAR long contract, this was over a week after signing up and I asked for the 34.95 plan because it was month to month, I didn't want a contract.
Today, a little over a month later I called and asked how much it would cost to cancel the contract, thinking it would be a percentage of the rest of my payments, I was told it would be $350 (FULL PRICE) And I assume by cancelling I wouldn't be able to use the gym?
I would have stayed at Planet Fitness for 21.55 a month if I knew that my guest couldn't enjoy amenities, the only reason I joined crunch is so my guest could utilize the amenities and now I am left paying the rest of my contract.
Also I left comments on Crunch Dearborn's facebook page and they called me and tried to get me to remove my comments.. so knowing how they work I am going to say this: I am going to utilize the gym until my contract is complete, I will NOT remove this review, calling me to remove it will not work unless you are calling to cancel the contract, even then I want people to be warned about Crunch's shady business practices, I am also filing a complaint with the BBB after this review.
I do want to acknowledge and give stars because there are some wonderful people who work at Crunch, the staff and facilities are in good condition, they don't always clean the tanning beds, I've had to do it myself a couple times, the management has changed twice in the past month. The training staff seem to know what they are doing, while I haven't taken any training lessons I watch them as I am doing my cardio and they seem very dedicated.
In closing my advice is if you join this gym make sure to read what you are signing up for! Make sure to...
Read moreMy experience with Crunch Fitness Dearborn has been nothing short of frustrating and unprofessional. I had initially signed up for a membership On July 22, 2024, I sent a cancellation letter on July 25, 2024. I sent it to the address listed in the contract via thru USPS, which meets all requirement Crunch Dearborn 5601 Mercury Drive Dearborn, MI 48185 because my plans to relocate did not happen and I stayed in NE Ohio. The cancellation petter we was obviously received, because my account history shows my account "cancelled" on July 30, 2024; consistent with the required timing for membership cancellation. Despite this, Crunch Fitness Dearborn has continued to withdraw monthly dues and even charged an annual membership fee on a canceled account for the last four months.
Attempts to address this with management have gone unanswered, even though I’ve emailed the general manager at the contact which is listed in official emails, as well as other addresses shared on LinkedIn and Instagram. Instead of resolving my concerns, they’ve continued to take unauthorized payments and are now threatening my credit by saying they will turn my account over for collection, even though they have never attached a bill or requested payment in any of their texts or email. It's F'in crazy that any of this has happened in the first place and continues to this day.
This behavior is both unethical and potentially illegal. They are stonewalling customers trying to resolve legitimate issues, all while continuing to profit. I refuse to call them and risk losing a documented paper trail, which I need to contest these charges with my bank.
I urge anyone considering a membership to take this seriously. Numerous people have reported similar shady practices with Crunch Fitness Dearborn. I strongly recommend avoiding this gym if you value fair treatment and transparency—no one should have to deal with these types of unethical...
