ArtsGarage is a fun and beautiful venue! Why beautiful? Because the room is surrounded by three walls of French doors, so there are floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides. The light from outside creates an ambient glow, and people walking by can hear and see the performance. It’s fun watching them pass by and glance at the show. Some fans were waving at the performer at the beginning, and she waved back at them in acknowledgment. All of this made the venue feel cozy and intimate. My party was sitting in some of the worst seats, far and to the side, and we saw everything wonderfully. We felt the performer look in our direction throughout the show.
It was nice sitting at a table with other people. We met some interesting folks and had some nice conversations before and after the show and during intermission. Wedding-style seating was fun. Some people were eating dinner they had brought, but we opted to eat dinner beforehand. Others purchased drinks from the bar throughout the show. Soft drinks and the hard stuff, but no coffee or hot chocolate.
The staff who checked us in was friendly and caring. We got there very early and one of us hadn’t arrived yet. They checked us in and told us to let her know to just go right in and go straight to our table, with no need to check in. When she arrived late, they walked her outside and through one of the side doors so she wouldn’t disturb the show. Make sure you get there super-early so you have time to park! This area is a hot spot for people going out on the town!
Ann Hampton Calloway is a vivacious performer with a versatile and absolutely beautiful voice. Her accompanying pianist, John Proulx, was talented on his own. He sang with Ms. Hampton Calloway a few times and played beautifully. What a fun and wonderful evening we had! It was beautiful.
One weird thing is that we could hear people walking or something from above the ceiling or the wall near where we sat during the performance. Maybe we were near a stairway in the garage? It didn’t interrupt the show or bother us. It was just noticeable when the room was very quiet during the more hushed songs.
This was our first time at this theater. I look forward to many more fun times there. Thank you for a...

Sunday night I saw Renegade at the Arts Garage. I have been going to the Arts Garage for many years , and have always enjoyed their shows. In fact, it is one of my most favorite places to go. Each cover band we have seen have been fabulous. Unfortunately, this was not the case Sunday night. The musicians were very talented and the female singers were terrific. The problem were the songs they chose. Renegade advertised singing rock songs from the 60's, 70's, and 80's.What a great selection they had to choose from, and unfortunately ,they only played 2 or 3 familiar songs. A lot of the 2 hours were spent watching the women dance on stage and the band jamming. I would not go back and see them again. I will look forward to going back Arts Garage for...
Read moreI love the Arts Garage! I made my stand-up comedy debut there, have many friends who perform and display their art work, and recently saw the very somber, moving, and poignant, Brooklyn based Father-Daughter play, Being Somebody, produced and directed by Elizabeth Browning.
The Arts Garage is an intimate and casual theater experience. Max seating around 170, it sells out nearly every show. The staff if always joyful and welcoming, ready with band-aids when needed (I’m still a klutz), and there are great opportunities to volunteer and contribute to the experience.
Overall, Arts Garage is a place to celebrate the arts as a performer, guest, promoter, public official renting space for a community open forum, or to have a closed-door event in a lovely auditorium. It is a staple in the community and I’m grateful to be able to take part in the shows as well as sharoen my own...
