I have been coming here for over a decade. My pets nutrition and wellbeing are of utmost importance. Pet food has increasingly improved over the years and quality products are tough to find. A Pet's Paradise carries the highest quality products, complete with a knowledgeable staff to help navigate the ever changing landscape of pet nutrition. My pups have all had different needs over the years -- food that's easier on their stomach as they get older, food that's better for the coat of a coon hound versus a springer spaniel, supplements or treats for allergies. I've purchased two slow feeders for my voracious hound dogs, they love it! The high quality and affordable marrow bones are their favorite though. They carry locally made harnesses and toys, too.
The staff is exceptional, and I have worked in restaurant customer service for over 20 years, so believe me I expect the best. When one dog food company began changing their formula to be "cheaper" for production and lower quality than I expected, the staff informed me and helped me find an alternative. The indepth knowledge they have and keep up on is invaluable. There have been times when I am out of food and they don't have the size or product I want, but happen to have some samples, to hold me over -- who does that? I trust them with my fur companions lives and with my dollars. If that's not an awesome relationship, I don't know what is!
Stop in, wander around, ask questions, look at the fun stuff and remember, they are a locally owned shop that supports small business, which means better service and higher quality products for...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic place. I've had several very different fosters from a 12 week pup to a 100 lbs lab/dump truck mix. So they've all had different needs, and the staff here has always been spot on with their advice and recommendations.
I've also seen firsthand that a lot of cheap generic dog foods/treats are legit garbage that have made my current dog sick. There's constant recalls for contaminated stuff and even a lot of the not-recalled stuff is garbage and potentially harmful.
So "natural foods" is a very different thing when you are talking about animal food vs people food. Non-organic people food still has standards and whatever your stance on it, it's not going to harm you seriously and immediately in the short term.
But with pet foods and treats, the kinda stuff lining the pet aisle at the grocery is usually genuinely unhealthy at best and very harmful at worst.
So for that reason, you really need to shop for your pet at small natural food pet stores like this one. And Pet's Paradise has an awesome and fun selection, and is staffed by extremely experienced and knowledgeable animal owners, who also happen to universally be lovely and pleasant people. I look forward to going in almost as much...
Read moreI love the idea of this shop - it's local and I really love their offerings - however, I took my 9 week-old Golden Retriever pup in to get her food for the first time and they pushed the grain-free thing pretty intensely. They sold me about $90 worth of food for a raw diet and everything; of course I wanted the very best for her, so I didn't even balk. The thing is Golden Retrievers can't do the grain-free diet - it deprives them of the amino acid taurine that leads to heart disease (DCM) and certain early (very unnecessary) death. Studies are being done - the research/findings are available - if you have a Golden, I'd encourage you to see what's out there. It's not just this pet store - Petsmart, Petco - none of the folks who work at these places seem to understand breed-specific dietary needs, so do your own research and don't be dazzled by all the fad diets. Anyway - go here to support a local biz, just do your own research and don't rely on retailers to give you valid advice on what your particular breed of pet needs to thrive. I'm giving one star because, had I followed their advice, my sweet pup could have ultimately paid...
