We used Bigsby's Folly for our wedding venue for both the ceremony and reception for 115 people. There are not enough words to express how pleased we were with the entire experience from beginning to end. The Venue Coordinator (Cassie) planned and organized with us for about a year. Meeting with us many different times, getting to know us and our vibe, and always making us feel special. She worked professionally and personally with us as well as wedding planner and other vendors which made the day effortless for us. She even worked with us on other details such as tables, chairs, and other details that required coordination outside of the venue. Above and beyond service doesn't even begin to describe it.
PICTURES LOOK INCREDIBLE HERE! The venue is a one-of-a-kind space that allowed us to bring our friends and family to our favorite neighborhood in Denver. And it offers a sort of timeless, historic vibe with just enough grit to make it it edgy. There are two outdoor spaces (we used the back patio for our ceremony) and a large indoor space for seating and then dancing. The venue is also within walking distance to two hotels which is where our guests stayed.
To this day, our friends and family keep mentioning how excellent the food was; and it really was. We choose to go the family style route with the short rib and salmon as the main course (they also offer dietary restrictive guests an option as well). In addition we had the carrots, broccolini, mushroom risotto, and a watermelon arugula salad. During cocktail hour we had various passed small bites out as well and finished the night off with mac and cheese for late night snacks. Literally every single dish and app that was served was fantastic. On top of that we also used them for our open bar and they kept the beverages flowing all night. The staff was extremely nice and on top of it all and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves as well.
I could go on-and-on about this place. If you are looking for a space to host your wedding or event, I would 1000% recommend having it here. In addition, if you're just looking for a place for brunch or dinner this is also an amazing spot to just enjoy your time. We look forward to coming...
Read moreLooking back on our visit to Bigsby's, I cannot help but be disappointed. We planned to stop in when we visited Denver in 2022, so when we returned in 2023, we knew we had to try harder to make the trip. Overall, the space itself is nice. Very nice aesthetics inside, with a nice patio outside for when the weather decides to cooperate. There are plenty of windows all around to let in natural light. When we arrived in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday, the winery wasn't very busy. There were a couple of tables here and there, and a larger group that was wrapping up their visit. The staff were also helping prepare for an on-site wedding later that day. Despite what seemed like a manageable number of guests, we waited extended periods of time to be served throughout the time we were there. At one point, our server even admitted that she forgot about us. We decided to start with the Folly 5 Wine Tasting, assuming they would pick five wines that highlight their wines the best. Being the middle of summer, we were rather surprised that 4/5 of the wines on the tasting were reds. We hoped that maybe they were lighter reds given the season but after trying everything, we think that they just stick with the same 5 wines throughout the year. The Brut Cuvee was our favorite of the bunch. The reds were generally disappointing. We decided to order some food while we were there and settled on a meat and cheese board. At first glance, the presentation of everything looked pretty good, and we were kind of impressed coming off of the wines. But then we started actually eating what was on the board, and we realized that the flavors were not very cohesive. The pile of mustard did not go well with any cheeses, nor did the pickled vegetables. It was a strange combination of items that seemed more like they were there to look nice than actually be a well thought...
Read moreI was so excited to try this place. But there was so many negatives, I don’t even know where to start. First thing we noticed was our waitress. I get it, we all don’t like our jobs and we all have tough days, but the effort still needs to be there. She checked on us maybe twice, told us nothing about the wines each time she brought them. On to the wines. We paid extra to have the reserve flights, and every wine we tasted kept getting worse. The only wine we finished was the brut. The Rosè of Grenache tasted and smelled like old cigarette smoke, no fruit at all. The Pinot Noir, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauv all were so acidic and so alcohol forward on the nose and palette (Maybe because they were all 14% and up alcohol!) My husband and I kept swirling thinking they all just needed to breathe- nope. We couldn’t even try anymore. All the glasses were left full. Again, if someone was checking on us maybe they would’ve noticed. The charcuterie- Fatty prosciutto, warm salami and chorizo, just not good. Also left that. After about 25 minutes waiting for a check, with full wines on our table desperately wanting to get out of there to try and salvage our night, our waitress was still no where to be found. Eventually my husband just went up to the bartender to ask for our check. Bartender came over with our check and asked how everything was (the only one who asked.) and we politely told him we didn’t care for any of the wines (as he could see from all of them sitting there.) so he did very nicely waive one of our tasting fees. Overall, this place is a let down. The space is amazing, but that doesn’t go far when you don’t have good wines....
