I am a low income Senior, just the sort of client this veterinary clinic and hospital is supposed to serve. When I brought in my cat YumYum because he was not eating the vet undertook various tests costing $200 and concluded he had an obstruction in his stomach requiring emergency surgery. I authorized the operation, costing about $1,000, and it turned out no obstruction was found. When YumYum did not eat or drink after the operation I took him to a private vet, who replaced the improper Elizabeth collar with which he had been fitted with a proper one which allowed him to eat and drink. The vet also expressed surprise that YumYum had not been given an ulltra-sound before the operation, which is routine in diagnosing stomach obstructions in cats. I brought YumYum back to Dumb Friends Veterinary hospital two weeks post op to remove the stitches and was charged an additional $135. I also signed a monthly payment contract for the $500 balance on my surgical bill. When a few weeks later YumYum began to vomit and I realized he might still have medical problems that would require costly veterinary care, I called the “financial counselor” at Dumb Friends and asked her to forgive my remaining payments so I could pay for the new care YumYum might need. She refused, as did her boss. Although I can forgive the possible malpractice YumYum and I received at Dumb Friends Veterinary Clinic and Hospital I cannot forgive the hypocrisy of Dumb Friends in advertising its core value and service as being compassion for low income pet owners and their pets, like YumYum and me, and then denying me this financial relief. Based on my overall experience I advise low income pet owners in Denver to avoid this facility. NOTE: In view of the "response by owner," concerning whether ultrasound is considered part of a normal workup for stomach obstruction in a cat, here is what Google AI says: "Yes, an ultrasound is considered a standard test to help diagnose a stomach obstruction in a cat, often used in conjunction with other diagnostic tools like X-rays and physical examinations, as it can effectively visualize the stomach and identify potential blockages or foreign objects within the gastrointestinal tract." This is in addition to the comment of the private vet I had to take YumYum to -- because the Elizabeth collar they fitted him with after the operation was the wrong size and type -- that she was surprised ultrasound was not used before they operated on him.

I brought Rufus here because money is a little more than tight at the moment. Rufus had already seen another vet who was nice enough to give us a recommendation to PetAid. I didn't know what to expect as Yelp had horrible reviews. People didn't seem to be happy with the service/prices here and I was apprehensive about the quality of care Rufus was about to receive. I'd made an appointment for a specific procedure and when I showed up the front desk employees didn't seem to have any record of it, which was quite annoying. They said they would see us - and they did - but it was about an hour later. While waiting a woman with a puppy said she'd never bring her pet there again, that PetAid had misled her which seemed to be the popular opinion over on Yelp. I have to assume she didn't understand the process because Rufus and didn't have a problem. A vet tech took us to an exam room and then had me wait while she took Rufus into 'the back'. I wasn't happy about him being beyond my line-of-sight and paced anxiously until the doctor came to see me about his situation. They didn't perform the procedure but rather they ran an entirely new exam with tests. When I asked why they said they couldn't perform the procedure they said it was policy to run their own tests first, which made sense. Everyone everywhere wants to run their own diagnosis. The prognosis wasn't good: lymphoma. The veterinarian gave me treatment options, answered all of my questions and seemed to be very concerned with both Rufus and myself. She followed up with us when she said she would and called in a prescription in a very appropriate amount of time. My only complaints are the lost reservation, Rufus being taken away from me and the exam room needed a good scrubbing (dust was everywhere). Would I return if needed? Definitely. Rufus doesn't have long left in this world so it may be a while before I return, but I will definitely keep PetAid in my contacts.

Horrible experience to put it politely! Got referred to this specific vet by our personal vet for surgery on our great Dane. We went for the initial visit and everything was fine, we scheduled the appointment for two weeks out and showed up for surgery on the day scheduled. Even thou the paperwork said my visit was scheduled on October 25, check in at 7-7:30 they insisted that the appointment was not until the following Friday. Frustration number one! I live 2 hours outside of town so there went 4 hours out of my obviously very busy schedule. Ok, took that loss and said I will see you next week. Again got up next Friday at 4:30 am to make in a timely fashion and made another trip into town. 2nd time of total frustration. We arrived on time only to get put in a waiting room for an additional hour only to have not even a veterinarian come in the room and not only refuse me service but lie to me and give me an ultimatum? They said that the only way they would be able to give my dog the surgery was if I paid an ungodly amount for a spay/neutering surgery? I went there to relieve an animal of the pain of not being able to see for a chery eye. Only to have them lie to me and tell me they tried calling and did not leave a message. Funny thing is they not only had my wife's phone number but mine and my daughter's as well. They had no problem getting ahold of me to upsell me on 2 other surgeries that they said were so desperately needed? I did check all three call logs only to find one call no message? I can take the extra surgeries cost no problem, what I can't deal with is the uneducated most ignorant person that felt the need of getting an attitude with me when I did not want to neuter my dog. They had 4 weeks to let me know of the situation and not only chose to withhold it from me until the day of surgery. To add insult to injury lie to me right to my face when I had the call logs and paperwork right in front of me! This is not the first time they have done this to me unfortunately. I had another dog same scenario and I folded last time. My dog ended up with an infection from the surgery that I was forced into at the last second just to give him relief from stomach issues? I will never return to this vet and will for the rest of my life advocate for all who has dealt with this crooked, uneducated liars! I will be filing a report with the Better business bureau and every other agency I can find to let everyone know what type of business the denver dumb friends league is running, how they like to string people along to try and force hard working people out of more money or do their will in order to get an animal medical attention. If I could have I would have given them a negative five stars and that would be being nice, bad business is one thing, being rude and giving me attitude when I choose not to give them more money for additional surgery that is not needed is another but by far the uneducated person posing as a vet repeatedly lieing to me about trying to contact is by far the worst business ethics I have ever seen or heard about. They have no problem calling me over and over, back to back when I have a bill due. They can put out the extra effort to suck money or make sure they are getting paid, but the well being or comfort of an animal I guess has no presidance. Piss pour customer service, billing is a joke, non care of animal well being and just overall the worst business experience I have ever had! I'm sure I'm not the only one which makes this worse. I'm an honest man, and I am being extremely honest when I say, I WILL SPEND WHAT EVER EXTRA TIME AND ENERGY I HAVE TO NOT ONLY REPORT THEM TO WHO EVER I CAN. BUT I WILL SPEND THE REST OF MY LIFE MAKING SURE THAT EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT KIND OF A BUSINESS THE " DENVER DUMB FRIENDS LEAGUE " DOES AND HOW NONPROFESSIONAL THEY ARE AT IT!!! FOR A SUPPOSED NON PROFIT ANIMAL WELL BEING VET. THEY HAVE NOT ONLY SHOWN STRONG SIGNS OF FALSE ADVERTISING BUT ALL IN ALL. THEY SURE SEEM TO CHARGE A WHOLE HECK OF ALOT AND PROBABLY LIE ABOUT WHAT YOUR PET ACTUALLY NEEDS!...

If your pet is sick don't go here; if you need a routine service like teeth cleaning or spay/neuter, it's OK. I took my pet in for an illness; i had all the tests done & a "minor" procedure to help move her toward feeling better. The vet said all tests looked like she was well & fine + her condition would be resolved with the procedure & meds I was to buy. Just over a month later, my pet has died. It is my opinion that the student vets should not be (ultimately) responsible for diagnosing sick pets... it is my addition opinion that they actually killed my pet by this inadequate staff being the only people reviewing sick pet test results. Lastly, I think very few people actually get out of there without spending at least $500... in fact, it truly seemed like they have a formula in how they handle owners & service suggestions to ensure that (minimum) $500 "goal" is met. While they do charge a little less than regular vets, this devastated pet owner will do whatever it takes to get a REAL animal Dr when a pet needs help. I would rather have my pet still here with me & be in painful debt, than in painful loss of her; which reminds me: The cost of tests, procedure & meds were suggested be put on the Scratch credit card they intoduced me to - bc i could not pay for all they wanted to do to my pet - well... I'll be paying that off for the next 7 months, so in the end, I'm still in debt but have lost my pet. I miss my her beyond description and wish i NEVER went to this place and trusted her to them. Please think twice before you take your ill beloved animal to them. REPLY to the comment left in response to my review:

I find it grotesque that the posted response to above essentially stated it was ME who neglected and caused my pet's death. But then again, am I really that surprised to be treated as such? No, not at all. There is NO LOG IN MY CALL HISTORY for the office reaching out to me post procedure . if I overlooked an unrecognized number, there are other ways to reach me such as text message or email. On top of feeling my darling cat (see my Google profile pic here-she was kitten) was just a cog in the wheel of 'business' there, u insinuate I'm non caring nor careful pet owner. Its aggregious. Im the quintessential "childless cat lady" w/pets that are the ONLY family I have in my world. The 4th year students you refer to were FAR more focused on the biz end of things, in my opinion; Which I gleaned as a pressure on them, not their preference. while I think they were doing their best to manage all things they are tasked to do - the actual focus on medicine seemed very clearly as secondary.

I would have preferred to receive a reply acknowledging possibility of changes needed there, to make the death of my pet at least count for SOMETHING.

instead, the reply was all about me not doing enough to ensure she was being properly monitored post-procedure (ie, catching some unknown/no caller ID phone call in this crazy world of robo calls and scammers) & also spending more money I dont have to do more tests only to be sent away w/ "all looks fine'. ..She DIED & I trusted (& PAID) for her to be thoroughly checked out BY YOU. I followed all instructions given after the assurance her only problem was constipation alleviated by the procedure & meds I bought. I did everything told to do; She was fine then suddenly Sun night she let out a needy cry & 1 hr later she was dead. I held her thru that hr trying to soothe her as she suffered final death rattle breaths all that time. It was an horrific experience; right or wrong, I fully blame your clinic.& myself for believing in it. Pls do not post another reply pushing how u did everything right & I was the one who fell short. Clearly something was missed & she paid the ultimate price, at only 10. I BEG you to take my review of our (Toodles&me) experience into consideration. It is my sincere hope future patients & owners will be spared this awfulness. Every life is precious & I pray you will not let her death fall into nothingness. She deserves...

Terrible! Deserves Zero stars! I was referrred here by an excellent clinic that told me if I had a referral I could get half off of the surgery they recommended.

My regular clinic performed blood work, urinalysis and X-rays in my kitty and found bladder stones and recommended surgery. They told me I could try to shrink the stones by giving her a different diet but that it was a lengthy process and the kitty would be in pain. Furthermore if the stones shrink they can get lodged in the urethra and be cause for emergency surgery. So, my trusted vet said surgery was the best option and sent in a referral for me.

I called and scheduled the surgery with PetAid for the following Monday since they are not open on the weekends. We arrived at 215 for a 230 appointment. Filled out the paperwork at turned it in. It was 3pm before we were called back to be seen.

Once in the office I have the tech the X-rays from my clinic and all documentation of her vaccines, blood work, urinalysis and the X-rays they revealed the stones. The tech told me to wait in the office and took kitty to the back room. 30 minutes later another tech came in. She then confirmed the kitty had stones from the X-ray which I already knew. She does on to recommend the food treatment instead of surgery. She tells me kitty will have to come back every month to see if the stones are shrinking. I explained that I understood the food treatment only works on one type of stone and that to determine the type the stones needed to be removed and sent to a lab. I explained further that with my work schedule I cannot bring her back once a month during the work day for examination and that I would like to proceed with the surgery I had scheduled for today.

She left to speak to the medical director and came back 30 minutes later. She told me that since it was now 4 o clock they could not do the surgery. I explained i had been there on time for my appointment and that I’ve been waiting on them for now 1.5 hours. She then said they never do same day surgery. I explained to her this was schedule 4 days ago from a referral and all of her medical information had been provided and did not need to be performed again. They refused to do the surgery I had scheduled and took the day off for.

I asked for them to bring my kitty back as I was not going to have them do blood work, urinalysis and X-rays that we’re done merely 5 days ago and records provided. She told me they hadn’t yet taken the cat out of the carrier and went to get her. She told me to check out at the front desk to pay the exam fee.

I did not pay an exam fee and left the clinic because she told me they had not even removed the cat from the carrier the entire time we were there.

If I receive a bill from this clinic I will be fighting it. This was a complete waste of time for me and added stress to an already sick kitty. I do not recommend receiving care here!! They may offer low cost services but they want to add in services that were not schedule for reasons they...
