I had a lobe piercing appointment with Mantis Wildflower and was very pleased with how it went. The studio uses implant grade titanium non threaded jewelry, and has a wide variety of titanium and gold ends to choose from. Any time jewelry was picked up, gloves or tweezers were used. Sterile equipment was used for the piercing. Mantis was absolutely wonderful. They seemed very knowledgeable, and put a lot of effort into making sure they did their job well. I wanted lobe piercings on both ears, and they spent a lot of time making sure their markings were symmetrical while accommodating my existing stretched piercings as well as taking into consideration my wishes to wear earrings with larger flares once my new piercings were healed. They looked at the markings from several different angles, checked the distance from my existing piercings with a measuring tape, and had me check them in the mirror before they were pierced. They talked me through everything they were doing, and checked in with me throughout the process to make sure I was doing okay. They used a jewelry length that would accommodate any swelling during the healing process. They explained aftercare well, and answered any questions I asked throughout my appointment. There were snacks and apple juice available in case people were light headed after their piercings, and I was given a lollypop on my way out. Every staff member I encountered was kind and professional. I was encouraged to reach out if I had any questions throughout the healing process. Overall, I had a very good experience here, and would recommend Mantis and this studio to anyone wanting to...
Read moreI decided to get a piercing last night and I called 12 oz. because I was impressed by their ratings. Turns out, they were more than justified. I spoke to Sam on the phone and she was helpful, informative, and for me set up for an appointment last night. When I got there, the establishment was clean and had a great mix of traditional tattoo parlor vibes and a kind of upscale feel.
I was helped right away and directed towards a very large selection of jewelry to choose what I would like. Mantis was there and after checking about some of my preferences, helped me find a piece that fit my style and budget.
There was a little bit of a wait but nothing beyond what would be expected anywhere else but the difference is I was offered a complimentary drink and honestly, that Coke zero was such a happy, unexpected little surprise.
The piercing itself was a very smooth process. Mantis was super knowledgeable and gave great advice on the placement. The cleaning process was professional and thorough and the piercing itself took less than it took for him to say, "You're all done!"
When it was time to leave, I haven't had tattoos or piercings in a while so I asked what the customary tip is for the service I received and the answer I got showed me the kind of people they are...good, honest, hard working artists who love their craft and love helping others feel good.
I will be back as soon as my son draws the tattoo he wants me to get and after just one time meeting them, I will feel like I'm going back to hang out with old friends. If you're interested in getting a tattoo or piercing, 12 oz. on Hurffville Rd. is the...
Read moreI recently visited 12oz Studios hoping to get a belly button piercing I’ve wanted for a long time. The shop itself seemed clean and well-organized, and the staff were initially polite. The piercer began checking my anatomy to make sure I was good to continue with the piercing. When I sat down for him to check, he commented that the stomach would “swallow” the piercing, so he could not do it. I was stunned that he would even make such a comment. I left feeling extremely upset. I genuinely cried the entire way home. As I young adult I pray that I was the only female he had made such comments to. As such a malicious comment on someone’s body can be extremely harmful. To add, I have a normal figure for an 18 year old girl, and there are plenty of people who have the same body types who are able to get such piercings.
I understand that certain piercings may have technical considerations based on anatomy, and I appreciate their concern for safety. That said, the way this was communicated felt judgmental, insensitive, and dismissive. Instead of taking the time to explain the specifics or offering alternative options, I left feeling hurt and unwelcome. I recited the story to many girls I knew and they all shared the same feelings I am writing about now.
I hope the staff can work on addressing these situations with more sensitivity and care in the future. Everyone deserves to feel respected and valued, no matter their size. That being said, I will not be a returning customer for any piercings I may want in the future and neither will any of the girls I told my...
