Terrible experience I wish I could give 0 stars. I have been bombarded with emails, texts, phone calls and voicemails by Anthony since Tuesday April 11th when I initially signed up for a trial at the deptford location. I will NEVER be interested in an edge membership specifically because of my experience with Anthony.
When I signed up I received an email, followed shortly by a phone call that I did not answer. When I didn't answer the call I received a text from Anthony saying he saw I was interested. I responded STOP to unsubscribe. 8 minutes later I received another email from Anthony asking me to respond or call about my interest in the gym. (I was later told by a manager that they saw that I unsubscribed from texts which is why I did not receive any further texts, but he also said it showed I didn't receive the initial text which is why I was then emailed again. How can I opt out of a text I supposedly never received? Douglas could never answer me. )
My boyfriend signed up for the same trial minutes after I did and he did not receive the same amount of contact I did so that tells me this is not a normal amount of contact or he would have received the same amount of calls, texts, and emails that I did.
We both thought this was strange but decided to go try edge that night anyways. Upon arriving, the employees at the counter told us to wait and Anthony came over and we followed him to a desk. He asked for our IDs and told us he'd like to set up an appointment after the 3 day period was up to talk about our experience. We both informed him we were not interested but if we like the gym we'll get a membership. He seemed angry at this response and threw my ID on the table like a child after I handed it to him.
Our first impression was already terrible. We also had some issues with some of the machines not working and not marked out of order. The gym was super crowded too. By the time we finished we had decided it wasn't the gym for us. A lady at the front desk gave us our ID's back and asked us how we liked it to which my boyfriend responded we had an awful experience with the guy at the beginning. She responded "Oh good!" Obviously not listening to our response. I said, "no our experience wasn't good the guy at the beginning was rude and pushy." She apologized and we left thinking that would be the end of it.
The next day (April 12) I received yet another email from Anthony which started like this, "Hey Stephanie, I know you guys dont want to talk to me at all,"
My boyfriend did not receive any other contact concerning his trial following our workout on the 11th. I did not respond to Anthony's email. He made it clear he knew I was not interested but yet decided to email me again. When I did not respond to his email, he decided it would be a good idea to try to call me again today, April 14th. I did not answer but quickly returned the call and told Anthony I was not interested in anything and tried to explain my frustration, but he kept interrupting and would not listen. I told him not to contact me anymore and hung up. I then called the gym again to speak to a manager and they informed me the manager was unavailable and Anthony was either given the phone or took the phone and tried to talk. I told him I did not want to talk to him and hung up. Again, absolutely infuriating that he would be the one trying to handle the situation.
If a customer has an issue with an employee, the logical thing to do would be to bring someone else on to try to de-escalate the situation. Anthony's incessant attempts at contact with me is both annoying and creepy.
As I stated previously my boyfriend did not receive anything close to the same contact I did concerning the exact same trial membership which is funny because the membership would have been in his name because he goes more than I do. Thanks for making it easy to check off a gym franchise we never have to...
Read moreGood Evening Google Family. I'm on the road again. After leaving work this morning, its Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, I had decided last week that I would be visiting the Edge in Deptford, New Jersey. After departing work, I had decided to get the newspapers, buy a water, since I had forgotten my water today at work. The store at work has an apparatus where you can draw your own water and ice, similar to an ice machine. That one cup held me all day for four (4) hours. I visited 7 Eleven to put money on my card for my EZ Pass. There is a minimum of $35.00 that you can replenish your card. Then I bought the newspapers, The Daily News and the Inquirer. Then I went to Sunoco, where I purchased gas for my trip to Woodbury, New Jersey, or Deptford, apparently, it is the same. I bought $20.00 worth and away I went!! It was an easy trip to New Jersey, where I took the Walt Whitman bridge. I was there, at the Edge, rather quickly. It is located in the Plaza of Deptford. It was similar to all of the other Edges that I have visited. A few things that stood out. The locker room, they had an extra set of lockers near the Changing Rooms. I have always seen two Changing Rooms at all of the Edge Fitness locations. Also the Women's Only Fitness area, was larger than a lot of the other locations that I have visited. One important difference is that I could not work out in the Cinema, which I always do, when I visit the Edge locations. It was too too Cold!!! They had the AC Cranking up to Maximum!! I love the cold, and I despise the summer, because of the heat! But when I complain that its too cold, then it is!!! It was a nice set up in the Cinema, though. Maybe the next time I visit, it will not be as cold!! I completed my workout in the Women's Only Area, lifting 20 lbs weights and using the STepper, doing step aerobics. I finished my workout on the treadmill, in the open, where everyone was. I have never done that, I always use the treadmill in the Cinema. I then took my shower and then I changed my clothes. My reward after an invigorating workout is a Shower and a Smoothie. I decided on Banana Bread today. AJ was the employee, who assisted me today. I told AJ how at the Edge in Wayne, they were no longer accepting cash. AJ told me that they were still accepting cash. I said, GREAT!! Away I went and I left, departing for HOME!!!! Good night...
Read moreI was just rudely accosted by an employee, Chelsea, at the front desk.
My daughter has the Edge Total membership. This allows one guest to accompany her (i.e me). As we walk in my daughter opens her app and scans her membership code. Immediately after, an employee loudly asks me if I have a membership. I explained that I am my daughter's guest. The employee (Chelsea) raises her voice louder and states that she needs to see my ID before I can workout with my daughter. She then turns to my daughter and asks if she has a membership that allows guests. My daughter scanned her membership code in front of her on our way in!
Employee further explained that I must leave my ID at the front desk when I come with my daughter to work out and pick it up on my way out the door. My daughter has had her membership since December and we were never told about this ID policy. I don't have any qualms with policy. What I object to is being treated like a criminal.
During the discussion the employee went from loud talking to shouting the same phrase over and over. It's not crowded today so it's safe to say she was on the verge of making a scene. I felt very uncomfortable.
She asked another employee to help check me in. The second employee was able to explain the ID policy in a lower tone which helped but employee Chelsea was still at the desk shouting the same phrases over and over as the other employee was checking my ID. This was not only disrespectful but also inappropriate. It felt like Chelsea was purposefully drawing attention to my daughter and I.
Overall, this gym needs a better check in system/policy that is more inclusive and doesn't make their guests feel...
