Oriental Express — Restaurant in Deptford Township

I wish I could give this place 0 stars, absolutely awful. This was our first time ordering and it will 100% be the last. For starters, I was two bites into my bourbon chicken and hit a bone. Disgusting. The rice was overcooked mush. During that time we also realized the cream cheese wontons have crab in them which was NOT disclosed on the menu. If there’s crab then it’s a crab ragoon so maybe update your menu?? Way to go causing harm to your customers because my husband is deathly allergic to shellfish and we trusted that your menu was accurate. As if that wasn’t bad enough the wontons in the wontons soup were hard and discolored. How is a soup wonton hard sitting in broth???? This place is terrible save your money. Beyond menu contacted the restaurant and they wanted us to bring back the food in order to issue a refund after they admitted to not updating their menu and disclosing that there is in fact shellfish in the CREAM CHEESE wontons. Ruined our night!! We had already thrown the food out and my husband was frantic for his EpiPen following allergic reaction. How were we suppose to bring it back when it’s sitting in our trashcan and my husbands throat was closing because of you. TERRIBLE customer service. terrible terrible terrible. I would give it 0 stars if I could. never once did I have bad sushi and I’ve tried numerous sushi places at this point. we ordered spicy tuna roll (which is my go to anywhere) and shrimp tempura. I barely even put the spicy tuna roll in my mouth and I gagged from how raw and the fishy taste it had. AGAIN, I get spicy tuna from EVERYWHERE and I understand that it’s RAW but never had it taste like the bottom of the ocean. the shrimp tempura was so dry that I couldn’t even swallow it. we called to express our concern because we ate none of the food we got. instead of going ahead and writing a bad review, we decided to call and let them know we weren’t satisfied. completely respectful on our part and they did nothing but yell and be extremely disrespectful. started saying that people order it all the time and it’s our fault that we don’t like it. at this point we weren’t even asking for anything in return, just some decent customer service and an apology if anything. instead she wanted to get nasty and basically tell us to never return. even if the sushi was amazing, I still wouldn’t return with their disrespectful and inappropriate customer service. extremely...

We tried this place for the first time (05/08/2024), on a recommendation from a friend. I read the reviews before buying anything, and there were more positive reviews than negative, so we felt it was worth trying.

The food looked amazing, a lot better than most other restaurants, but it was absolutely flavorless. And there was one review that even mentioned that. I bought the pepper steak and the sauce had no flavor. We also bought fried wonton and steamed dumplings. The fried wonton were not crispy at all. Also, the pork in these 2 dishes tasted "not right", for lack of a better term. It wasn't bad, but it was lacking something that I can't put my finger on, and my wife agreed.

We all have our favorite Chinese places to eat at, and taste buds vary from person to person. For now, my wife and I will continue going to our "go-to" place for Chinese food.
