I ordered through instacart and the shopper delivered 2/9 items I requested because they were allegedly all unavailable. How do you have THAT many items listed for purchase and unavailable. What a waste of ordering through delivery service since I then didn't get remotely what I needed. I called Rivertown because at first, I thought it was the shopped. Amongst the several items I had ordered, there were 2 field roast celebration roasts and 3 field roast deli slices. The instacart shopped told me they had none of their 3 celebration roasts in stock. I asked the representative on the phone if they had any, "field roast celebration roasts or deli slices." She immediately put my on hold and had me wait about 4 minutes while she checked. She returned to the call and asked, "sorry, which dinner rolls were you asking about?" I don't know where she got dinner rolls from, so I explained, "not dinner rolls. Field Roast Celebration Roasts. Field Roast is a brand you carry and I'm asking about any celebration roasts or deli slices from them. I was told you don't have any in stock, and online it indicates that you have 3 celebration roasts and at least 3 deli slices, none of which are listed as low stock." Which is why I ordered them AND listed substitutions. As I had her go check again and unonvincingly tell me that they didn't have any of that, I heard her talking to what seemed to be another associate in the background, "do we have field roast? ... vegan? She didn't say vegan, she just said field roast." The woman kept putting me on hold and didn't even ask for more clarification. I told her the name of the brand. I don't know how she was checking her system. I thought I was being extra specific by giving her the brand and product title. anyway, as she still didn't really have an answer for me 10 minutes later and asked me if I was calling the right store + mentioned sausages (not what I asked for), I gave her a thanks and left because I had to work. I'm so annoyed. Would never shop here again.
For context, I ordered the following from the selection available and didn't receive any of them:
Field Roast Deli Slices, Lentil & Sage, Plant-Based (5.5 oz) Field Roast Celebration Roast, Plant-Based Roast (32 oz) Field Roast Deli Slices, Mushroom & Balsamic, Plant-Based Field Roast Deli Slices, Plant-Based, Smoked Tomato (5.5 oz) - this was labelled as lightlife with a picture of field roast product Field Roast Celebration Roast, Sage & Garlic, Plant-Based (1 lb) Daiya Deliciously Dairy Free Cheddar Style Slices (7.8 oz) Field Roast Vegetarian Frankfurters (6 x 2.67 oz)
These are the only 2 items from my order I actually received: Violife Cheese Alternative, Cheddar Slices (10 each) Field Roast Sausages, Plant-Based, Spicy Mexican...
Read moreI canât help but feel targeted every time that I shop here. I am a black woman whom is normally dressed business casually and I always shop with my elderly mother. Each time that we are ready to check out there is a woman that always has a rude remark and profiles people with 15 or more items as thieves. yesterday I choose to shop later in the evening hoping i had avoided the issue. But no She was still there standing next to a coworker whom she walked away from as I approached the check out line. As i began to scan my items I noticed the other employee watching me very closely no big deal people steal and i get that but it is never my intention while im out shopping. I scanned two boxes of cereal and one didnât show up on the screen, now I didnât notice because normally when items dont scan the screen would give and error message. The employee shouted âmaam the cereal didnât scan.â I said ok and tried to rescan the item and it didnât scan. He said i cant type in the price for you. I declined and the employee continued to watch me scan items. Several items then did not scan and i gave the items to the employee letting him know i did not want the items. He even walked behind me and stood for some time and even got angry when i asked for space. I absolutely love shopping here for quick pick ups never for full grocery shopping due to their small carts. I would like to know Why is it so convenient for employees to accuse shoppers of stealing when the labels do not scan? Itâs not like we know what labels work or not. I feel as that more time can be put into registering labels so that customers can scan their items and go! It is very disheartening that I canât shop at this location because I refuse to be treated this way. I work very hard for my money and would like to enjoy shopping in a beautiful market. I have only been to this location four times and each time when i check out thereâs an issue. I will not be returning to shop here. Hopefully one opens up by my home...

This review has actually been a long time coming. I shopped here since it's opening weekend- I've waited a while to do this. I can't speak highly enough of the produce section, outside of going to the Eastern Market it's the best you'll find in the city- yes even above Whole Foods. They have an array of local brands most of which are great finds. The prices are consistent with shopping at a big chain and is a welcome addition to Detroit. What I could not figure out for the longest time was the target demographic for this store-until now. If you're a working Millennial/GenX with a bit of discretionary income to spend this is the store for you. This place is geared toward those who shop for a household of no more than two people. If however you're shopping for more than one child or two adults you'll find making the drive to the suburbs much more convenient- the store utilizes space in a weird way so it feels much smaller than it is, and therefore the baskets are much smaller. It has a great selection of brands, however, I find that no matter the time or day I'm always finding they're out of stock of multiple things on my list. Customer service is okay at best- thank the heavens for self-checkout. While others may appreciate the vendor setup on certain days, I can't say I've enjoyed the the bombardment of sellers wanting me to try their product or listen to their pitch when I'm on a quick grocery run-the space is small enough already without being made smaller by tables everywhere. The layout is awkward and I often find myself questioning the placement of certain items. All in all for small grocery trips for fairly priced, cool local brands, fresh sushi, and decent deli/cheese selections this is the pick. Though I can't say this is what Detroit actually needed in...
