It pains me a little to issue such a low scoring review - especially after I’ve had a couple enjoyable stays at Greektown - but my last stay was (without a doubt) my worst experience at a hotel. In fact, I question whether or not they have any real policies in place to effectively deal with disorderly conduct and to protect their guests.
My fiance and I stayed here on a November, Friday night, excited to get away for a short trip. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner, everything was going well, and upon returning to our room about 11pm, we discovered there was an especially rowdy group of women staying in the room directly across from ours. Now, don’t get me wrong - I expect a little noise and partying in a casino hotel, especially before the midnight hour. But this wasn’t just “noise” - it was endless, ear-drum bursting screaming and cackling - I wouldn’t be surprised if their bedroom window glass shattered into pieces before the night was over.
A little after midnight, we were ready to go to sleep, but the ridiculous wailing across from us not only continued - it grew more intense. It went on and on and on, until about 1:30, we realized we were never going to get any sleep unless we involved hotel security. So, we called the front desk, waited about 10 minutes, and carefully listened as we heard a knock on the opposite door. A woman came to the door, shouting, and started insulting the security guy! He simply told them to keep the noise down, ending with “I’m just doing my job!” and disappeared.
I wish I could say the screaming match ended after 2am, but no... no such luck. They may have given their lungs a break for about 5 minutes, and then sure enough, let the screams fly soon after. In fact, not too long after security’s appearance, we heard an exceptionally loud THUD from the screaming room. I don’t know if they dropped a television set, ran head-first into a wall or door, or what.. But a heavy object was certainly involved. We called down and reported the noise again. Security never returned. Finally, around 4-4:30 am, the screamers must have exhausted themselves - or lost their voices - because the racket from Hades trailed off, and we were finally able to get to sleep.
The next morning, we explained our terrible night to a very nice lady at check-out. She was sympathetic and said we could contact hotel management, and would especially want to do so if we were ever planning on staying again. I did, and although management was responsive, they were apathetic and did nothing to attempt to right the wrong. I like the Greektown establishment - and that included their hotel up to this incident - but it’s pretty ridiculous that they’ll charge $300+ for a room some nights, and if you just happen to be placed next to other disorderly guests with absolutely no respect or concern for anyone else, you’re SOL. Sure, the rooms are nice, and the beds are comfy. But isn’t it a shame that when you’re done gambling at the casino, you have the gamble on your sleep...
Read moreLet’s start with the positives; The location is excellent. We love Greektown and this is in the heart of it all! Unfortunately, everything else was mediocre. The experience at check in was just meh. Nobody working the front desk was overly bubbly in their effort to be of help. I approached the desk, gave her the name on my reservation, and was told to insert my card for incidentals. I was then given the key card for the room and that was that. No information on the property or amenities. Heck I wasn’t even told what floor I was on or where to access the elevators at. Now on to the other things. Our neighbors across the hall were blaring rap music at 11:30pm, and as terrible as I thought that was, it didn’t compare to the bed bug that ran across our comforter as I was watching Willy Wonka on TV. Yep. A BED BUG! My husband smooshed it and sat it on the end table as I called down to guest services. I was told we’d need to be relocated but first I needed to come down to the front desk to fill out an incident report and get a new room. So, at midnight, we were left to pack our things and change rooms. Forget about how stinkin’ tired I was, I was simply icked right out! The ladies at the front desk took my keys and asked me to fill out the paper work. They asked for photographic evidence as well, which, I had. I was given new keys, told sorry, and off I went. We got into the room and this one had ripped bed sheets, and I couldn’t sleep because, who the heck can sleep after bed bugs?? Not to mention it sounded like a street race was going on all night outside! Fast forward to check out and I asked to speak with the manager to discuss compensation. I was told he wasn’t in but he would be calling me. That was at 8am. And, I finally did receive a call from him around 7:30pm after I emailed him. Apparently, the report I filed had to be sent to risk management who would then inspect the room and I may or may not being getting any type of financial compensation back. Or at least, that wasn’t expressly stated. Let’s just say it was a terrible end to what started as a very great night at the Wings game. I was really hoping they would make this right for me but it’s now been over a month and after several attempts on my part to reach out, no one has taken the time to get back with me. Disappointing. Looks like we’ll be going back to staying at the Double Tree from now on. Not only are they clean and friendly, they also give you warm delicious cookies...

Upon arrival I stood in line for 10 minutes before even being acknowledged and checked in. Instead they ignore you to take care of the VIP guest arrivals. The rest of us rabble dont matter.
Upon getting to my room, which had an amazing view, I discover this is going to get worse.
The carpets were badly stained, the entire room was beat up and looked like it was something from a cheap motel, not a $180 a night experience. The furniture was marked up with dents and scratches has, some crusty white stuff was on the counter top. The shower door was broke, I soon found out. It wouldn't open or close properly. As I took a shower it kept opening back up. I found a disposable razor and clumps of hair in the corner behind the garbage can. The sink wouldn't drain. The place smelled like pot. The last straw was be stepping on a fingernail clipping.
When I went to the front desk to complain, she apologized, but you could tell that was just a fake apology. She said she would contact maintenance and housekeeping and have the room given a deep cleaning while I was out for a few hours.
5 hours later, I returned to the shower fixed, the sink fixed. That's it. To make matters worse. Someone had used my barsoap, which before I left was unused. And it was in the sink. Used the toilet and didn't flush it. Left a bandaid in the shower floor. And my room still wasn't cleaned.
I calmly sat in my room waiting to see if housekeeping would show up, while at the same time exploring hotels nearby to go stay at for the rest of my trip.
Another 2 hours past housekeeping still had not arrived, I had to go down the hall and find them to get some towels so that I could take a shower and get ready for dinner. Another hour passes housekeeping finally shows up at 515pm asking if they can clean my room.
This was the worst experience I have ever encountered at a hotel. This nightmare is something I would expect from some Backwater Motel run by a hillbilly named Billy Bob if my car broke down in the middle of nowhere. Not from an expensive major Landmark Hotel and...
