Staying at this hotel, I knew I was paying a little bit less than the more expensive hotels in Detroit but with paying $193 a night IN JANUARY, I had minimum expectations that were not met. Walking in the lobby, the smoke smell was AWFUL and it clung to everything. I had a headache within 30 minutes because of the smell and contemplated just leaving but did not want to loss the money I had already spent. I have stayed at a lot of hotels over the last 10 years and this was my first experience with Comfort Inn and probably going to be my last, I do not know if I will ever risk my money on one again. I will give some positives, the staff was super friendly, free parking and the shuttle running a 3 mile radius so that was an awesome perk! BUT walking into the room, the fire alarm was beeping because there were no batteries (why the cleaning service did not call that in blows my mind) and the lock on the door was busted off. Called down and the maintence guy was there in 5 minutes and fixed both issues immediately which was nice. The cleaning crew did a terrible job in the room, the desk and tv stand were never wiped down, there was hair in the bath tub, the floor was a mess and obviously was not vacuumed. Their were stains ALL over one of the comforters. The hair dryer in the room was broken and would not work at all. AND THAT SMOKE SMELL, again was so awful I cannot even believe a hotel would allow that to happen. They did have breakfast included in the cost, but after seeing the cleaning staff couldn't even vacuum the floors in the room, I refused to go down to breakfast to risk the kitchen crew being the same. If you can't smell, bring your own sheets, and bring your own cleaning supplies to clean up then this hotel is a great hit for you, BUT if I could go back, I would have never booked anything with Comfort Inn because the price vs value were worlds apart. I did not call into headquarters or anything with any issues to know how their customer service was but I am a highly unsatisfied customer...
Read moreThis is a tough one. It started out great, when I arrived on Thursday eve) loved the room, the staff was very nice (the front desk staff was always nice!). I was in town for the Draft. They had a shuttle for that occasion. The driver of the shuttle was mad about something and when I showed concern about where I might have to walk, late at night, to be picked up after I left the draft, he jumped all over me about wanting to be dropped off or picked up at the doorstep, I was offended. I told him it had nothing to do with that, I was concerned about walking a certain distance at night, as a single female, to get to the shuttle (it may have been a different place than we were dropped off and farther away). he jumped to conclusions. He also had to add “do you see how many cops are around here?” In a sarcastic way. Then, when I got back to the hotel, the TV in my room didn’t work (I had wanted to watch The front desk guy couldn’t figure it out and so he sent the shuttle driver in to help me. He redeemed himself a bit because he figured out what the problem was and it couldn’t be fixed that night. The hotel was pretty packed due to the Draft, but there was at least one empty and I was given that room. It was smaller, but, the TV worked and that was my main concern. The next morning during the free breakfast time, all went well and the lady keeping everything full was doing a great job and was very friendly. The shuttle driver was nicer the next day, taking several of us to the drop off point to get into the draft (he received a nice $20 tip from me, mostly because he figured out the TV issue). The rest of my stay was fine. I was given a very good rate per night, based on the Draft pricing for that time frame and I appreciated that very much. I want to repeat how nice the front desk staff was at all times. Also, the hotel was very clean!!! I would stay...
Read moreStarting off rooms are clean albeit a little dusty, but for the price and location that wasn’t an issue for me. They also offer shuttles to location downtown.
I’m giving it 2 stars because I couldn’t sleep at all during my stay here due to their thin walls.
I stayed on the 3rd floor. Although this is new year’s eve and I did expect some noise after 1am from people coming back from events, it was 3:30 to 4 when the first incident happened where a presumably couple was fighting, and the girl was screaming for someone to help her and then sounded like she got kicked out of her room and she wailed and banged on the door while in the hallway. I had to call security to come and put the commotion down, and they did come after about 10 mins. After that quieted down a group of people came into a room connected to my wall (or it could be above), and at this point it is 4:40am and they started to PARTY. There was stomping, laughing their heads off, jumping around and faint music. Again I woke up and called for security and I did hear them come take care of it after a few minutes. I’m very glad that happened, but this comes down to this place again having paper thin walls.
Overall although there is security on site the people who stay here aren’t always considerate (or normal) and all kinds of things seem to occur more often here than other hotels. I didn’t expect something like this to come with the price tag, basically disrupters throughout the whole night. This is of course beyond the front desk control or anything they can really do except react to the situation, but this is definitely a caution for those thinking of staying and expecting good...
