I moved to the Detroit area in the winter of 2016, with no knowledge or guidance as to what my new home parish would be. After attending liturgies at several different parishes in my area, I was led to Saint Joseph's, without much prior knowledge as to what the experience may be like. I was overcome by several things. First, the architecture and the brilliant beauty of the church itself. Second, the reverence of those present in the sanctuary. Third, the beauty of the liturgy itself. Finally, after the mass, the welcome I received from many, including the priests. I ended up at the parish open skate that same day, surrounded by the most genuinely kind and personable strangers I have ever met. The welcome I received and the support that ensued (now for a year and a half and counting) has been unparalleled. I joined the parish without a second thought, and am so grateful to call this place my home. Pastors Canon Stein and Canon Fehrenbacher are good, holy men, and knowledgeable leaders. It is a huge blessing to be able to go to them for spiritual direction, reconciliation, and other sacraments as well. If you are a Detroit/ Metro Detroit Catholic looking for a home parish that is rich in tradition, beauty, and community, please join us on Sunday at the 9am or...
Read moreA beautiful and enthusiastic spiritual home, my now fiance and I began attending St. Joseph Oratory when the Institute of Christ the King adopted the parish in October of 2016. We have been attending the past two years and it has been an absolutely phenomenal and heart-changing experience to be a part of the traditional Tridentine liturgy. So many wonderful doors have been opened to us thanks to the guidance of our spiritual director, Canon Stein and the patience of our confessor, Canon Fehrenbacher. I can't begin to explain the impact I've seen in our Detroit community (both religious and non) from seeing two active, holy priests, working to grow the city closer to God.
This parish is truly alive in its community and the genuine relationships that have been formed among our parishioners. I would encourage anyone who's ever been curious about the traditional mass or who is searching for a strong spiritual community in the city to attend a Sunday mass (9am and 11am), you will be welcomed...

My wife and I moved to Detroit from Texas, and when the time came for a discussion of staying or moving home, Oratory weighed heavily on our decision to stay, because it is such a boon for us as a Catholic family.
