AMBIENCE! First and foremost, you can be guaranteed that your visit to Midnight Temple will be filled with amazing ambience. I kind of felt like I was at home because I love Indian decor and this place is filled with character and identity, rather than being bland and generic like so many strip mall restaurants. The food and service were good, but left some room for improvement. The cups for water (metal) were unique and one of a kind, but they were also very small, requiring frequent refills. Unfortunately, there was not a dedicated "water filler" to make sure glasses had water in them. Servers were quite busy and so I had to ask several times for water refills. If they are going to use such small cups and not have someone filling the water, then they should consider leaving water pitchers on the tables so guests can refill the water themselves. The other problem I had was that they were out of naan bread. Never in my life have I been to an Indian restaurant that "ran out" of naan - all kinds. NO NAAN. It was a huge disappointment. The food I ordered was good, and the service was friendly, but there just weren't enough people working to get water refills when I needed them and I was disappointed that I had to ask and wait every time. That being said, I'll definitely give it another chance because of the ambience and decor. OH, and even though it's on the second floor there is actually an elevator that you can use if you are older or mobility impaired, so it's 100% accessible.

Delicious! First time here last week with a group of three besties, and I'm still dreaming about the food. It has been so hard to find good Indian food in the area, most of the places are outdated, not so fresh, soggy, and mushy. Midnight Temple is none of those things!! All of the food was fresh, samosa was crispy, to die for chicken tikka masala. Very well seasoned. I love spicy food, Medium plus level spicy has a great slow build burn, even though it has a GOOD level of heat, it is not the type of spicy that sacrifices flavor or the kind that makes you cry because it's just straight BURNING. We also had cocktails, all of them were well balanced, not too sweet, great use of spices again. The atmosphere is also awesome, very cozy, rich jewel tones, floating ceiling shelves with feathered vases, nice atmospheric lighting. Love the loose pillow back seating, perfect for leaning back on after stuffing yourself to the brim on all the delicious offerings. My new favorite place and I can't wait to go back.

4/5 As others have pointed out, the atmosphere is what makes Midnight Temple special compared to other restaurants. The lighting, paintings, and family pictures all make up a beautiful scene. Even seeing the section of the menu devoted to "Amma" made me smile. The food itself was pretty good. We always like to sample a variety of entrees when we get Indian food and the peanut curry was my favorite in the bunch. I've never even seen this as an option at other places and was impressed. The only disappointment is we were promised our food would be really spicy because that's how we requested it, but it ended up tasting medium at most. I'd like to see the staff bring the heat next time. Service also could've used some improvement since it wasn't that busy when we first got there and it took a while for someone to take our order. To end on a high note, sipping on chai was the best way to end the experience. I wish I had the recipe!

My wife and I have been very excited. We heard about the midnight temple. Beautiful ambiance, all of the bloggers on all the social media pages are raving. Reviews about this place. We walk in beautiful decorations walking in, The? Hindu, God Ganesha, write at the door as soon as you turn the corner. For those of you who don't know ganesha is the hindu god of Removing obstacles, So please explain to me. How it is possible They became an obstacle to me. Having a good time and you dim receiving a good review. Before we even came we said a reservation for 9 o'clock. I call in to make sure that they have space. They tell me it's not necessary and to come on in. We see all that beautiful stuff. But when we come in to sit down. Tables are not ready and on top of that. They tell us to wait to clean the table off to be able to sit down. We observe , a group of young white males drunk bumping into my wife, Okay, that's not their fault. Maybe their patrons are just drunk, so we try to ignore that. Finally, after about fifteen minutes, we sit down to our table. It takes them 20 minutes just to bring us water, after which we see them. Bring tables of people who sat down at the same time as us. Food, faster water, faster and service faster. We sit there for about 20 minutes before a waiter. Comes over and brings us water. He leaves for another 20 minutes before coming back and getting our cocktackle order at this time. Me and my wife are tired. We're irritated because he's ruining our experience, and he's ruining our vacation. After having a really rough week. I myself in Pakistani so I was expecting a loving environment and a very welcoming experience. I got neither it seemed like. There was a focus on certain ethnicities. More than others and it seemed like we were kind of forgotten in the corner. We finally get our food after being there for like an hour. When the food finally comes, it will sub her missing ingredients. And missing grandmother's love, definitely not worth waiting hours for your meal. Each time they didn't bring something, we had to watch them. Make eye contact with us and then just not say or do anything. In my opinion, the servers need to be trained better. More organized and differentiated from the patrons that go there, 2, there should be equal attention. Paid to every single customer. It doesn't matter if a customer comes back a 1000 times or this is their first time each time they should be received like family as Indians and Pakistanis are loving people and we Express our love through our food and how attentive we are. To people who come and visit our house in our businesses. Our culture is ancient. It's over a thousand years old and if you don't bite into it and taste the ganges, if you don't bite into it, and here music, that's a thousand years old, see smiles that have endured time infill warmth like the fires of Kali Ma herself, Then you're not serving Indian food. You're serving a water down commercial coca. Cola americanize version of it in a bollywood package. So for the future and for this beautiful space. And this beautiful family. That's making this food. I feel like you deserve better. And us as customers deserve better. I wanted to bring my mother and...

I went to this place around 10pm on a Thursday night by myself. First red flag? The music blaring from the speakers was "detroit style" rap with excessive profanity and use of the n- word. They told me they let a customer hook their personal phone up to the Bluetooth speaker. Ok let that go. I seated myself where I sat for 5 mins and no one had brought me water yet. I tried to let that go. About 3 young guys are running this place and all seem incompetent with one acting as if he don't understand English at all. I immediately order appetizers and a mocktail. Server is NOT in a uniform whatsoever, actually NO ONE had on uniforms so it's hard to differentiate who's a worker or not. He brings me apps with his WINTER COAT ON. Tried to let that unprofessional act go. What I assume to be the "manager" is playing pool with his buddies and go from the pool table to directly behind the bar to pour free shots. Now I'm livid. My drink was made back there and no one is washing hands and now cross contamination is a concern. Appetizers come out and are GREAT! I try to stay because food is good but service is TERRIBLE. I order a banana leaf meal and butter chicken. Now about 20 mins have passed and still no food. Noticed that manager buddy comes in with his family around this 20 min wait for my food and immediately as they sit down they began to recieve plate after plate of food. I'm confused. They just sat down, did not officially order, and got food within seconds of seating and I still haven't received my entrees. I began to ask REPEATEDLY where is my food. After lying for another 10 mins a server tells me they made a "mistake " and served the manager's friend family my food by mistake. At this point I'm livid and demand the manager over. He idiotically tried to lie and as I began to curse them out for the terrible service he proceeds to picks up my appetizers and say "this is how this is gonna go" now I'm irate and as I'm packing up to leave they try to rush out my food. The food DIDNT EVEN HAVE ALL THE PROPER INGREDIENTS on it. Guess they gave it the manager's friend family. I left without paying anything because he snatched my food away and wasn't gonna pay anyway for the terrible experience anyway. They need to STOP paying food bloggers to depict a different experience from what you really get because this by far was the WORST restaurant experience I ever had in Detroit. EVER. Food was fire but if you can't get it because they're too busy make free food and drinks for friends and family how are you gonna know? Will...

First off the food was the star of the show 5/5. Everything else was subpar.

When we walked in there was not a hostess so we tried to sit at the bar. When we walked over to the bar, the bartender stated he was too busy to serve us and asked us to take a table. Mind you the bar was 3/4 open.

We walked back over to the hostess stand and the hostess was there now. We told her a table for two and she literally pointed to a table and we sat ourselves.

The restaurant was approximately half full so it was by no means “busy” especially for a Friday night at 8:00pm.

We were greeted extremely fast by our server who took our drink order right away and asked if we wanted to order food. We said no on food for right now bc we didn’t even have a chance to look over the menu. About 15 minutes went by and the server had not returned yet. We could see our drinks sitting at the bar. I was able to ask the food runner to grab them for us as he walked by.

Another 15 minutes went by and our server returned so we were finally able to order food. We ordered the Hakka noodles with shrimp, okra special and, Manchurian chicken + parartha naan bc the regular naan was sold out.

The food came out extremely hot and fresh. It was all delicious and my favorite was the Hakka Noodles.

During our meal we saw three couples get up and walk out bc they were not being served (bar and tables).

The bartender was not really “bartending” he was preoccupied prepping all his juices to make the drinks. Our drinks did not come with straws so we had to go to the bar to ask for one. Instead of handing us a straw the bartender literally pointed to them on the bar and told us to go grab them. Maybe this was a blessing bc he wasn’t washing his hands in-between loading dirty dish-ware into the dishwasher and making drinks.

The server was busy the whole night. He was the only one serving the entire restaurant so we felt bad for him but it was also the hostess’ fault for not helping him. She just sat and basically did nothing the entire time we were there.

I worked in the service industry for years and it was crazy to me that she was not helping him bus tables off or give people refills.

Anyway, eat here at your own risk. The food is amazing but everything else is trash….literally, it’s...
