I was really looking forward to this experience, but unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed.
The soldering process with my ring didn’t go smoothly — after 4 or 5 attempts between both instructors helping me, one of them eventually offered to do it herself which I was fine with. However, when she returned with the ring, and the flux was rinsed off, I noticed the pattern had melted away, which was due to the repeated soldering attempts. I hadn’t noticed before because it had flux on it.
I brought it to the instructor’s attention because I didn’t want a ring that had a pattern that was only half presentable looking. At that point, everyone else had moved on to shaping their rings, so the instructor offered to remake mine. While I still got to shape and polish the final piece, I wasn’t the one who cut, bent, or soldered the ring — it no longer felt like something I made myself. It was especially disappointing because I had been looking forward to taking home something made entirely by me.
The remade ring had a small gap where the solder didn’t fill in entirely, and part of the pattern (I had chosen the weave design) still appeared slightly melted. I understand that handmade jewelry isn’t going to be perfect, but I had hoped the final product would reflect my own work.
It would have helped to know ahead of time that this particular design might be more difficult to work with; I was only told after the first couple soldering attempts. I also think there was an opportunity for the instructor to let me remake it, especially since she moved to a separate area where I wouldn’t have delayed the rest of the class. Even just cutting the metal and bending it before she did the soldering would have helped me feel more like I contributed to the final product. While I did enjoy the ring-making concept and appreciate the instructors’ help, I left feeling disappointed that I didn’t get to take home a piece I truly made myself.
I do want to recognize how kind and attentive the instructors were though.
I included a photo that shows the gap/hole that wasn’t entirely filled in with the solder. This is a bit concerning that it may weaken the integrity of the ring over time. You can also see the weave on the left of the hole is more melted than the others weaves in...
Read moreWhat a fantastic service. Halie is so sweet, holds great conversation and her work is out of this world! I had the opportunity to meet Halie and some of her family and they were all so kind and wonderful to speak with - even showed me some of the individual pieces she had created for them and they were so unique! I decided to get a permanent bracelet from her and the amount of chain options was out of this world along with the many options to add charms and other cute pieces. I was able to look around at her other pieces and hope I get the chance to see them in person again as I would love to add to the collection. The bracelet has held up wonderfully and I am still wearing it now. I would love to add more bracelets as well or maybe an ankle bracelet too. The cost of everything I got was also fairly priced. The company and Halie are great and I hope to see her company grow more in the future! Keep up...
Read moreMy fiance and I made our wedding bands with Halie & Co. and we had so much fun! We were able to upgrade to solid 14k gold for our every day wedding bands and the class was super thorough and fun. Halie is a great teacher, very prepared and made sure our rings looked great. A massive thunderstorm happened to come through during our class and knocked out the power in the entire neighborhood. I was super impressed that Halie had a battery and we were still able to finish the process of making our rings. I would recommend this to any couple or friend group looking for a fun and meaningful activity that also lets you learn something new and get your hands dirty. We're super excited to exchange these rings at our upcoming wedding! They mean so much to us and now hold a wonderful...
